Fuck D-Line already. We need a secondary because every QB torches us. Every single one. Christina fuckin' Ponder beat up on the Lions twice. If a corner or safety is top 5 material. take him.
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
Ponder had 1 good game against the Lions
The first one was 20-6 Vikings with a kick return and a punt return TD
Rookie salary cap makes it a non-issue
Why .... Dont think there is a huge difference in pay once you get outside of the first 40 picks. Wrong?
Yep, my bad on that.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
it's a weird year for RBs, and the play of guys like Alfred Morris is rendering the days of high first round picks at RB a thing of the past. Unless it's an Adrian Peterson kind of guy, they just aren't going before the 3rd round. Mocks i've seen have Eddie Lacy in the 3rd...and he's sure as hell going before Bell. same for Stepfan Taylor (3rd/4th). If Leveon goes he'll be a 4th or 5th round pick - hopefully - with an outside shot at the 3rd round.
as of right now the only DTs the Lions will have next year are Suh and Fairley. Everyone else is an FA. same goes for DE. they'll resign Hill and hopefully Corey Williams, but the loss of avril and age of KVB and Jackson being a FA make drafting or signing a DE a top 3 need. when you are picking 5th you are far more likely to take a DE than a CB....but Milliner might be there and he'd be worth it.
Bentley looked to be a solid starter as a rookie before his injury. If they can resign houston and draft another DB in the top 3 or 4 rounds then the secondary could be just fine. it's definitely a need, but people are way over estimating it and discounting the insane rash of injuries they had there.
They better take Manti Te'o or I'll be fucking irate
A man's gotta eat!
Anyone wishing to really look at the Lions Salary Cap issues should read the links below...an OUTSTANDING breakdown of everything:
2013 Detroit Lions Free Agents (i bolded the guys I think they should try and keep)
what if he's not there? the FSU DE looks to be a stud. i'd be fine with him too. My top preference is either Te'o or Milliner - both would be day 1 starters and fill huge needs.
Cowboys took Claiborne at #5 last April, he's been solid. Delmas has been hurt way too much, and even healthy he was getting abused on some pedestrian routes today. Lions haven't had a shutdown corner in....yeah....
KVB had a poor year anyway. He has regressed every season IMO. Paying Avril the franchise tag was idiotic too.
FWIW Mel Kiper said there isn't a DB worth taking in the top 5
How about Jarvis Jones or Barkevious Mingo?
Doesn't Jones have injury problems?
What if....The lions take johnny adams at 5? How would you feel?
I think they'll franchise tag Delmas and give him one more year to stay healthy. he was a monster in 2010 and drawing Ed Reed comparisons, but then hurt his knee early this year, came back and then hurt it again. all the talent in the world and exactly the fierce competitor/character guy we need...he'll get one more shot.
Spievey is done due to concussions. Milliner is big for a DB - 6'0" and 195 - and i'd LOVE to see him in Honolulu Blue and Silver. DBs going that high are rare though...and it's entirely possible he's taken before the Lions. There are also a few guys they could get in the 2nd that would be good consolation prizes. If they could get Te'o or Bjeorn in the 1st and someone like the Banks kid from Mississippi State or the Poyer kid from the Beavers then it's a win/win.
The things is though the Defense is what caused us to go 4-12. Our defense probably only cost us 3-4 games this year. ONe was against Indy, One against Houston, ONe against Packers and probably Atl too, Our offense and ST was the biggest problem this year. CB isn't exactly out biggest hole.
My head would explode. But it would be a CB I guess.
I feel like Teo would be the safest option in terms of lowest bust potential. I think at worst he'll be a solid lber with good leadership qualities.
Jarvis Jones, Werner, or Moore might have more upside, but I think there's a bigger bust potential with them.
Whatever the pick is, they can't afford to screw it up.
I like this.
the 5 guys:
Mante Te'o- MLB
Luke Joekel- OT
Jarvis Jones- OLB
Chance Warmack- OG
Dee Milliner- CB
of course, i wouldn't be opposed to shopping that pick for the right package.

East Lansing- A Drinking Town with a Football Problem
1) Millner (CB)
2) Okafor (DE)
3) Ogeltree (ILB)
4) Gholston (DE)
My dream draft.

They haven't exactly been stellar with their second round picks. For that matter, their late first round picks aren't terrible, but they're not great either. The ONLY thing they do really well is draft well at the top of the first round. Otherwise, I would definitely agree with you.

Interesting how low MSU's early entries are projected to go. For example, would it really be wise for Gholston to leave if he's going to be a 5th-round pick? Against TCU, the talking heads described him as somewhat raw technique-wise, so it's not like he couldn't profit from another year in college.
CB is right up there with OL as our biggest hole. I'd be okay drafting either position 1st round. Also would be okay with Jarvis Jones.
Would not like to pick Teo. Statistically he really hasn't been an incredible LB this year.
What do we know about those two Texas A&M OTs? Luke Joeckel and Jake Matthews... both looking like top 10 picks, but is either one an NFL left tackle? If we could get one to play LT and let Reiff develop at RT, this line may have a future.
i expect them to trade down
