Someone has to pay.
Wide receiver Titus Young was sent home from the Lions practice facility today and coach Jim Schwartz said he will not play in Thursdays Thanksgiving game against the Houston Texans as punishment for repeated on-field issues that culminated in Sundays loss to the Green Bay Packers.
what a great draft pick
"Put your mother in a straight-jacket you punk ass white boy." ~ Mike Tyson
The Broyles pick keeps looking better and better.
"Stats are for Losers." - Pat "Nardawg" Narduzzi
Should of cut him the second he put Young SR. on his jersey
With the exception of Calvin Johnson, does any organization do a worse job of drafting wide receivers?
"Look at this. An entire generation of Cinderellas, and there's no glass slipper coming." -- Mother in ALMOST FAMOUS
Good he stinks.
LeShoure has it, too. It's like team baby daddy.
Vim -- noun: robust energy and enthusiasm : VITALITY
So save some time and cut Leshore as well right?
Titus Young is not a bad receiver at all. I was impressed with his rookie season.
He has stagnated or regressed like the majority of the roster this season.
They are saying this is the reason for the WR coach outburst, and it was not directed at Linehan.
Yes they should'f.
Broyles. He looks like a fuckin' keeper. More of a Burleson-style zone-buster than the deep speed Young offered (as did Torrey Smith, who was selected 14 picks later by Baltimore, the pick after Detroit chose Leshoure, FWIW), but still a damned good WR prospect.
And now the #2 WR for your Detroit Lions.
Thank you, Denicos.
My question is, why did Linehan want to keep him in? It's not like he was doing anything good out there.
He was viewed as a head case coming out of Boise (he was benched for most of the 2008 season, for reasons Petersen wouldn't disclose), and hasn't matured as well as I had hoped.
Along with the maturity flag, there were pre-draft concerns about his questionable hands & tendency to run before he caught the ball. All three of those popped up last year, but there's no question they are worse this year -- each and every one of them.
When you have to drive the length of the football field, most coaches want their fastest players out there. Titus has big-play potential when he wants to play. Hell, the Lions would have won had he hung onto the end-zone pass right before Jefferson blew up. (Wonder why Jefferson blew up?)
While he's had a couple drops this season - i thought he displayed excellent hands last year. He made a lot of tough catches with his hands.
I don't think he should be written off. I think Lions fans like to pile on certain players. Young is an easy target. This pseudo-suspension could be what forces him to realize that his personality needs to change a bit.
They sent him home from training camp too, apparently he didn't learn his lesson.
It's clear that Titus Young's first unofficial suspension did not catch his attention. So what are we to expect from his second? I don't have my hopes
That's exactly what the team and Young said after his suspension for sucker-punching Delmas (probably the most popular player on the team, or at least the defense) in OTA's.
It's a pattern, is all I'm saying. Shawn Jefferson is an ex-NFL WR who made a living on the turf for a lot of years, and has gotten nothing but praise as a WR coach. He's had two years of trying to make Titus an NFL WR, and whatever passed between the two of them yesterday, it caused Jefferson to snap in a highly out-of-character way.
So Young (1) misses almost a full college season, for "undisclosed reasons"; (2) demonstrates immaturity on the field that contributed to a loss to a conference rival (personal foul against the Saints last year); (3) sucker-punches the lynchpin of the defense during OTA's; and (4) has pushed a professional WR and coach to the point of endurance and beyond. That's a pretty serious track record for such a short time. Should he be cut? No. Not yet.
If I were Mayhew, I'd have Belichick and Mike Tannenbaum on speed dial to see if they wanted to leverage a draft pick for someone else's highly-talented problem child. I wouldn't be surprised if this were Young's last full season in Detroit.
Randall Cobb was picked after Young. That dude is about to be a top 10 WR
Armchair General Manager is fun and easy, but I will never understand why we went with
Derrick Williams in '09 - Mike Wallace went 2 picks later
Titus Young in '11... Torrey Smith went 14 picks later, Greg Little 15 picks later & Randall Cobb 20 picks later.
In either case, ALL ranking sites had the aforementioned "coulda-been" WR's ranked higher than Williams and Young. Mayhew got sly and it is backfiring. That said, seemed the reverse was true of Broyles this draft - seemed like a reach that is going to pay off this time...
BUT before we applaud the Broyles pick, no way he would have done it if he hadn't already whiffed on Williams and noticed Young being a headcase.
..that was fun.
It seems like too much baggage, for what a #3 WR?
Broyles could be good. I agree.
and so was Torrey Smith,
He's going to Charles Rogers himself right out of the league.
Dominating Press Conferences Since 2007
He's going to break the same clavicle in three different places in three different incidents?
