World Series isn't over yet but let's be honest, it's over.
What does Detroit need to do in the offseason to get back to the World Series in 2012?
Hopefully VMart can come back and hit like he was before he went down. Adios Delmon. Resign Sanchez.
35,600 posts and counting since 09-09-2002. tRCMB Dead Pool Commissioner.
Re-sign Sanchez, get a corner outfielder, let Delmon walk, V-Mart at DH, get a closer, and decide what to do at SS.
Find a hitting coach who emphasizes the importance of working the count, fouling off pitches and being a "tough out" at the plate.
Any chance VMart will bat second? I know he cannot really run but at least he is a professional hitter.
Adios Gene Lemont?
Find the players who do that.
I'm with you on this ... something the Giants do very well (in addition to defense). Guys like Peralta, Dirks, etc ... if they're going to be in this lineup they need to adopt that grizzly mentality. They may not be great contact hitters but if they can make the pitcher work they'll drive up pitch counts and get guys on base for Cabrera/Prince/VMart.
If Geno goes anywhere, it will likely be to manage a major league club.
Are you serious? Are you fishing? Or are you just a douchebag?
This. Vmart will help this, but we need another corner outfielder with some pop that can have quality at-bats. We have too many rally killers in our lineup right now.
Peralta is going to be the SS. at $6M he's a good value.
I doubt it. He'll bat fifth to protect Prince ... there really isn't anyone else who could sit in that spot and be as effective (IMO). Delmon has been fine in that role at times but he's too inconsistent to keep around.
I read somewhere Stephen Drew may be in play.
I'd take Drew or Escobar, but I doubt the price is right for either.
How high can the market really be for Drew?
I agree...it's over
Great, I will give him a glowing reference if it gets him out of that coaching box.
A's traded their 2nd baseman away last week, Some think that makes it more likely they spend enough to keep Drew.
That has driven me nuts about this team since the beginning of the season. Even when the team was hitting well they gave opposing pitchers way too many easy innings by swinging out of their shoes at the first pitch of early in the count. Besides Cabby it there isn't a single guy on the roster who has good situational awareness at the plate.
I'd just like to reiterate my personal wish to sign BJ Upton this offseason. His average hasn't been great recently but he's fast, has power, and a great arm.
Unfortunately, a number of teams are going to go after him, including Philly and Texas.
But imagine this lineup ...
CF Austin Jackson
LF BJ Upton
3B Miguel Cabrera
1B Prince Fielder
DH Victor Martinez
SS Jhonny Peralta
RF Andy Dirks / Quintin Berry
C Alex Avila
2B Omar Infante
Eventually, if Q develops, he could be an everyday RF and be a third great speed guy in this lineup.
Always a market for shortstops, especially younger ones...only reason there isn't a huge market is because of his contract.
I say the chances are slim he is even on our opening day roster next year. He is a terrible hitter.
If Dombrowski doesn't jerk off to Drew at night, he can't get to sleep.
