I don't know about that. He's obviously not been a great hitter, but he was a rookie this year (albeit an old rookie) and didn't have a chance to stand in there as an everyday guy. It's tough to get into a rhythm when you're not getting at bats every day.
You may want to direct your anger towards the Tigers hitters. Vim at least showed up for 3 games, they've yet to be seen.
I though he had plenty of at bats and he proved he is not a everyday player.
Seems like Q should work on a becoming a contact Juan Pierre, Willie Wilson, slap it to the opposite field hitter, instead of trying to be pulling it with power.
Blinded by the love of speed. He's a AAAA (if not just a AAA) guy that had a decent month or two. He has looked terrible since.
Go get Soriano.
He is, but I'm thinking sign and trade. The team needs a defensive-oriented shortstop with range. Hitting is secondary. They need another Eddie Brinkman. They also need a #2 hitter with discipline...corner outfielder to take Young's slot. Whatever is or will happen in this Series doesn't change those two priorities....

Berry and Dirks need to go into next season competing for the 4th OF spot and that's it.
I'm not going to go overboard defending Q, but you're not getting confident everyday at-bats when you know you're going to get yanked the instant you go cold.
Okay, so a lot of conversation already about the lineup ... what about the bullpen?
Maybe so but I do not want to go into next season like this season. Thinking at some point in time the bats of Inge, Rayburn and Boesch were going to turnaround at some point. By the early, mid and end of the season you knew what they were. Complete trash.
Slap hitters have short, quick swings. His swing is a complete wreck...not to say it can't be fixed, but odds are against him.
Ummm ... You should earn everyday ABs.
playoff baseball is a crapshoot.
Will be interesting to see how big of a raise some guys get in arbitration.

They have Dirks, Berry, Garcia and possibly Castellanos for the OF
Peralta is the best available / affordable SS so he gets resigned
Re-sign Laird. He knows the staff and is a good club house guy who doesn't expect to be everyday.
Resign Kelly because he's relatively cheap and he's one player who covers 4 positions (OF, C, 3rd, 1st) in case of injury and like Laird he's a good club house guy who isn't expecting everyday PT.
Right now Porcello could be headed towards Jacob Turner territory and be trade bait for another pitcher. Reliever, middle relief or starter depending on what they decide to do with Below, how well Schierith heals/progresses
Valverde ($9M) and Young ($6.75M) are gone.
You do realize that Berry is not going to get any better. And more importantly, he can't play RF. If you're getting Upton, Berry probably isn't staying on the roster (1 He's a 4th OF, backup CF, who steals bases and no arm, aka superfluous and not as good as Upton). In that case you're looking for a Corner OF, with a strong arm to play in RF/platoon with DIrks.
A good move for the Tigers would be to go after Swisher (over Upton).
I do not want Swisher. The Yankees dont want him and he is a terrible playoff performer for them.
True, but the offensive issues they have had throughout the playoffs were a there through much of the season. It's not like this is totally out of character.
Berry isn't an everyday player and if Dombrowski could get Upton Berry's job would be defensive substitute for RF, pinch hitter/pinch runner ocassional starter. Berry's base running/speed is something the Tigers still need.
I think Swisher is a butcher in the OF and would make Jackson an old man fast having to cover for him.
Yeah, this team needs the athleticism someone like Garcia or Upton can supply, not another old guy who is close to Johnny Damon defense.
A borderline everyday player, AAAA player, too young, and too young.
I hope we can go after say a Torii Hunter player for a 2 year deal while Garcia/ Castellanos mature.
They had 5 walks tonight.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Berry is the 25th man if he makes the team at all. Can't hit lefties and tough righties destroy him too. Lincecum exemplified that tonight. One of the least competitive at bats I have seen all season. Had no chance.

No one who hits lefties that poorly can be an everyday player.
