I'd trade Castellanos and any other prospect they want for him. Does Texas really need another RF/3rd baseman?
Andrus isn't even on the market. I have a MLB source-yes that worked for the rangers for several years and now works for the Tigers. He said they are moving Andrus or Profer to 2b and Kinsler to Hamiltons spot in the outfield. Kinsler would be traded before Andrus is. Plus Tampa is rumored to move Price for Andrus which Texas would be stupid to not take if they decided to move him. I'd love to have him and he is perfect for us. Can't see it happening.
Hmmm...Price or Porcello for Andrus...tough choice for the Rangers...
In a way you are correct. He just isn't ready. He will not be on the MLB roster in April unless we have injuries. He will work on his power at AA or AAA next year. He has to play everyday. What is great about him is that he is big, has the potential to be a .300 hitter with 20 homers and 20 steals. He is great in the field and has a strong arm. It looks like him vs Nick for a future corner outfield spot.
This is the Tigers Contract situation.
Not true. Mention Scherzer, and they will listen.
Stephen Drew's option declined. The A's did pickup Balfour's though.
Just curious, but in this sport with no salary cap, and the amount of $$$ Illitch has, how can you say there is a MAX of spending with the Tigers?
God, I hope you're kidding.
Because even with the money he has, he doesn't want to run an enormous loss. The new TV deal for MLB helps some, but the Tigers have limited revenue streams. If they ever get a TV network like the Yankees and Rangers have and Angels will have, then they might approach a limitless payroll. Nobody's really sure where the ceiling is, but there is likely a limit to his spending.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
The economics of baseball are broke.
They need complete revenue sharing like the NFL.
He probably has more $$ to spend with the Wings being out of business for the year.
Was he operating the Wings at a loss?
The tigers have a better local tv deal than you think.
Not on the level of the Yanks, etc.
Top 5 I believe though
Their ratings are great, and they do very well with it, but they don't own the thing.
I don't think so ...
"According to sources, the Twins' current TV deal with Fox Sports North, which began prior to the 2011 season, brings in $29 million per season -- again, solid cash flow, but Skittles compared to the $150 million-per-year deal the Los Angeles Angels reportedly just struck.
Or the $400 million in revenue earned annually by the YES Network -- a media outlet the Yankees own 34% of. Or even the deal the Texas Rangers reportedly signed, worth an average of $80 million per year for 20 years.
The Tigers' TV deal, according to a December Forbes report, is worth about $40 million annually -- a 10-year contract signed prior to the 2008 season. But because many of Fox's TV deals have opt-out clauses at the halfway point, the Tigers could wind up renegotiating for more money -- perhaps $50-55 million annually."
Those odds make sense when you consider the Tigers will be the biggest favorite to simply win the division itself. I'd bet when the win total over/unders come out they are below a few teams, though.
Also, in recent years, MLB has warned the tigers that they their debt level is too high. $133M is pretty much the cap with their current fiscal constraints. They are a "big" small market team, but they just doubt have the resources to go dollar for dollar with the big boys.
The hype about Garcia is there because while in Erie he hit .345 while Castellanos as about 100 points lower and Castellanos is a year older. I wouldn't be surprised to see Castellanos back with AA Erie and Garcia with the AAA Mudhens next spring.
Being friends with Miggy doesn't mean squat if you can't hit MLB pitching. For the short time he was in The Show he batted .319. 15 hits in 47 at bats with 10 k's. That's too small a sample to judge for everyday MLB talent. For all we know he could be the close to the next Miggy or the next Chris Shelton.

If Bill Gates wants to give his billions to charity whose is to stop Illitch from throwing millions at his Tigers. That is how I see it. Money to an extent seems meaningless to him.
That's true. I would be ok trading a starter if they can somehow re-sign Sanchez, otherwise the starting staff would take a big step back. Porcello and Smyly as the 4th and 5th starters is pretty solid, but I'd be concerned if they were #3 and 4.
We are not the same, I am a Spartan
I would be packaging Porcello with Boesch, with other garbage ,aka, Raburn, for anything that has a pulse. I kid, I kid, ........for a young prospect who plays SS.
