Well since it was mysteriously placed there no one will miss it and he can keep it and still come to MSU.
Yep. Every school, including ours, does this.
Since he is a dual recruit, does he have to wait until football signing day to sign, or does he sign a letter of intent for each sport separately? Signing the basketball LOI during the early signing period next year could get schools to back off.
He does not sign an LOI for basketball because he is not getting a basketball scholarship. He will be on a football scholarship and will be a walk-on for basketball. If he were to sign a basketball scholarship (besides taking up a very valuable scholarship spot), he could not play or even practice with the football team until his second year on campus - after he has played at least one season for his primary sport he is on scholarship for.
Then we get a bigger duffle bag gentlemen!
Thanks, I knew the rule about the scholarships, I just was not sure how it worked with commitments. Kids sign LOIs for D3 schools but do not get athletic scholarships, so I thought that could be a loophole.
D3 schools do not use NLI's. There is no need because the kids are not getting any scholarship money for playing sports. They may get grants-in-aid, but those are solely needs based or academic based. They can not be based on athletics at the D3 level.
That is not to say that coaches at the D3 level will not work with athletes to get them into programs to ease the cost of going to their respective schools. There just is not a written contract (which is what essentially the NLI is) between the athlete and school to give them money out of the athletic budget to pay for their schooling.

Well, I posted this on the Duff and Rocky deleted it because he said it's an "usubstantiated rumor" but let me get your guys take. I work with a top offensive assistant on GR Christian (WON'T name him due to nuts on internet boards that could harass the guy) and he said Harris is very interested in USC and ORegon. Says he's flying out to USC in the next week or so. I asked WTF happened with MSU and he said that Drake is VERY concerned with the offense and the fact we don't throw effectively. I was stunned.....so I checked out this guy's credbility and he's solid. He thinks in the end Drake will end up on the West coast because he loves the warm weather. (yeah, I know: who doesn't) This guy says he's a total "FREAK" and compares favorobly to Charles ROgers out of high school.
And for those that put alot of credence into what Mick McCabe says, well......kids say alot of things during the recruiting process to the media. THe guy I spoke with is VERY close to Drake and seems pretty damn sure he's going to re-open the recruiting process soon. Hope to hell he's wrong but I don't see what's wrong with posting what I heard from a VERY reliable source IMO. 6-6 and having one of the worst offensive teams in the country has consequences. Let's hope one of them isn't losing this kid to Kiffin or Kelly, who BTW are total snakes in the grass every bit the equal of NIck Saban on the recruiting trail. (ps-don't shoot the messenger)

If he goes to Oregon, it won't be due to Kelley. He is likely gone to the NFL, one step ahead of the NCAA, which will rule on the Ducks at some point, unless they've been cleared. Haven't seen that they have been or that the investugation is over. He's already being rumored to NFL openings.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
I'll believe it when it happens.
"If they want to mock us, I'm telling them it's not over. It will never be over here. It's just starting." - Mark Dantonio, 2007
This guy is trolling. Harris has done nothing but reaffirm his committment. He goes to school a mile from my house, I know plenty of parents of kids that play with and against him, this is total BS.
BULLSHIT.....every time you guys hear something that gets your panties in a knot you say crap like this. Look at my posting history man. I graduated from MSU in 1992 and have season tickets in football the last 12 years. I also wrote a NICE check last spring to the athletic dept. Trolling my ass....it's what I heard and the guy is on the offensive staff at GR Christian...as I said, Mick McCabe isn't the be all and end all. Kids say LOTS of things to the media to get them to back off and have time to make an informed decision; ESPECIALLY if they're having second thought.....don't be such a prick when someone posts something like this. It's not like it'd be the first time a kid has changed his mind and bought into the sun and fun of SoCal.
I hope that's true about Oregon BTW....probation would be awesome for those slimey pricks. Kelly will get out of dodge just like Pete Carroll did.
But if Alabama offered would it be for basketball too? Their basketball program is very mediocre.
Could be true, but I will just wait until he finishes his Junior year of high school! Kid is a hell of an athlete and I REALLY hope that he ends up at MSU. However, kids will be kids and if he can't see through the fog at age 16 then I really cannot blame him. Stay Green Drake!
You guys forget that, while he may be a beast of a football player, basketball is the sport he really loves. There is only ONE college basketball who compares to Izzo in terms of coaching talent, respect, profile, and winning, and that is Coack K... and he sure as hell ain't going to Duke to play basketball AND football.
Insecure or troll.
Mods....ban this guy
What's the coaches name? PM it to me, I guarantee I've either met the guy or I know someone who knows him.
Harris is a solid MSU committ, he's been a State fan his whole life, idiot Michigan fans around Christian High's program have been talking BS since the commitment, the kid is going to his dream school. 1st it was he only went committed to MSU because U of M would only let him play 1 sport, now it's garbage like this. Don't perpetuate it. He's not only a firm commit to Dantonio, but to Izzo too, he's known Izzo since he was in middle school and idolizes him.
Harris isn't going anywhere else, stop repeating stuff you have no proof of, or at least stop and think about your sources.
Please don't post unsubstantiated rumors on here. We've got a whole staff of credible writers whose job it is to get quotes and statements from coaches and players. Random anonymous internet posters post whatever they want to on here and it's not fair to the recruits. If it's something that they want out there, they can say it themselves.
How does Harris know what are offense and passing game will be like in two-three years? Last year, we had a fantastic passing game. We had no receivers and a second string offensive line all year. Plus, the west coast teams cannot offer what MSU can: a chance to win a conference championship in both football and basketball.
Everyone is concerned with our offense. I think it is great that Drake is too. If I'm a receiver, I'm excited to play in an offense that throws the ball more than 35 times per game. Hopefully Drake sees the ineffective passing as exactly why he SHOULD be here. We're willing to throw and a big time player will make plays in this system.
Maxwell will never be Drake's QB, so that isn't a problem. Drake is such a rare talent, every prep QB should be falling over himself to toss Drake the pigskin.
But honestly, if this is coming from a coach it sounds like the coach has a gripe and it's wishful thinking on his part hoping Drake doesn't stick with his commitment. Seriously. It really has the sound of "anywhere but MSU."
High school coaches have allegiances, too. May be an ax to grind here.
Sorry. I call Bullshit.
Seriously this is nothing more than jealous scum fans spreading rumors. You said yourself this coach was very pro scum. Sounds like very wishful thinking on his part.
Jealousy is a stinky cologne...Don't get worked up over something this guy would tell you. He's playing you like a fiddle.
Harris wants to play basketball. That's why he committed to MSU. Oregon and USC aren't where we are as basketball programs. Therefore, I'm not too worried about his commit. He seems to prefer basketball to football.
Now if he were solely a football commit, I'd be a little more worried. Even though it looks like 2014 will be a very nice class for us.
