Every dry cleaner I've ever seen had a liability limitation, usually $100, printed on the back of the ticket. If he offers more than that he's being a good guy and you should snap it up. Alternatively, you could go to small claims court where you would be made whole and awarded the cost of a couple year old used jacket. You don't get the replacement price of a new jacket, that would put you in a better position than you were before.
Even though you can't buy an exact duplicate of the jacket, charge what a similar jacket costs from the web site. That way you have a tangible price and source you can show the cleaner. However, if you have your original receipt for the jacket, show them that and get that price.
Tell him you'll take $200 in dry cleaning. Done deal.
That's what she said.
That's the best solution offered ITT.
The OP gets original value for a used jacket, and the dry cleaner gets to keep a customer happy without laying out any cash.
As long as you wear your Vuarnets with the jacket you should be fine. And if you wear a polo underneath make sure to pop the collar.

Appreciate the answers, some had me rolling on the floor. Also I'm a bit worried. I know my wife and teenage daughters throw shit out of mine if they know it's out of style and I still wear it. Then a pretend they don't know what's going on. So, I'd ask a serious question if nautical is out of style but you fuckers wouldn't give me an honest answer.
Anyway, I'm going with this answer first. I'm stopping by the cleaners tomorrow. I'll offer this as a solution. It seems like a win for all. We'll see.

Well it's actually called "Nautica" and not "Nautical" so aside from dressing like a geezer, you're sounding old too. I'm no fashion expert but I stay the hell away from Nautica stuff. Just seems like the right thing to do.
