My dad's parents lived just west of Lake Linden Ave (M-26) in Laurium. Probably pretty close to your place in Calumet.
My mom's dad lived at the cottage during the summer. Rode my 10-speed from Laurium to Bootjack (about 14 miles) a number of times. The last couple miles on M-26 down into Lake Linden was a rush...I was just a little slower than passing cars. No helmets back then
Made the return trip from the cottage to Laurium only once and decided to never do it again. That hill is a bitch

Know that hill. Spent my Summer's in the area, my parents were born in Houghton and Atlantic Mine. Have Aunts/Uncles/Cousins all over that area. Lake Linden, Calumet, Laurium, South Range, Chassell.
Going to try and get up there this Summer.
Our place is off of Mayflower road. I haven't been able to get up there for the last couple of years after moving to CO. Not enough vacation time, especially when the place is 600 miles from Detroit.
In my opinion, the whole Keweenaw peninsula is the coolest area of Michigan. Mt. Brockway, Eagle Harbor, Mt Bohemia, dirt bikes, surrounded by Superior, the old growth forests, ferns, fishing, etc. Damn it I miss going up there.
