The older alumni are a disgrace when it comes to cheering or creating a home court advantage. This is not former izzoners, it is the tanfan demographic. Same in football, it is as if the team owes them something for being a football fan through the 70's and early 80's. As long as these people continue to shell out money for season tickets, so that they can enjoy a relaxing night of watching basketball, the bres will never be as intimidating as it once was.

I've maintained this for years. I know a number of people who sit in the lower bowl. Most of them do not pay for their tickets out of their own pockets. Maybe the company that they own pays for them, but the money is not coming out of their household funds. A lot of the other tickets are owned by people/companys who give the tickets to friends or clients who are there for a different reason than the rabid fans are. Those fans/spectators are not going to be as fired up as some of the rest of us. If the weather is nasty, they may not even want to drive in from Okemos, let alone Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids or even further. Alot of these people go to the game to observe the spectacle, not to be a part of it. Also, speaking for myself, over the last 35 years I've been to about 500 MSU basketball games. Call me a little jaded but it's a little harder to get fired up at this age then it is when you're still in college. Especially when you've been screwed over by the administration more than a few times. Go ahead and neg-bomb away. I'll still have my season tickets long after most of the current Izzone members have moved out of state.
This guy gets it.
I went to the game last night with my father in-law. I sat in 225 and was frustrated by the complaining and yelling of the old people behind me to sit down. Some of those old farts didn't stand the entire game and were constantly yelling for Nix and Dawson to shoot with 30 seconds on the shot clock and at the 3 point line. Absolutely pathetic.
This guy doesn't.
I sit in the upper level.
I love to stand up but don't like to be a dick to the people behind me who don't want to for the entire game. It's just not the done thing.
It is great when the atmosphere gets contagious and everybody stands up and shouts. I help to foster this whenever practical.
Note to izzone: dont do the "stand up" chant when it just doesn't make sense... When you ask people to stand up at the beginning of a long timeout at an irrelevant time, they just aren't going to do it. And that makes the "stand up" chant less effective when it is more necessary and practical.
That being said, I really don't get people who leave early. A LOT can happen in just a few seconds. Why bother showing up if you're not going to stay till the end. If you don't like the parking lot situation, use the trowbridge ramp and ride the bus. That system works really well. I'm serioius.
you mean like the intimidating student section spartan stadium was during the Iowa game? that was a disgrace.
Their effort for the most part is incredibly weak Have been to a couple weekend games where literally 1/3 of the seats were empty.
But I love the myth that somehow you must be standing for your mouth to work.

The green seaters still have me upset today !
My roommate spent 3 hours putting on his rubber nose, makeup and glitter wig... meanwhile those effing green seaters pull into 63-West 5 minutes before the game in their fancy SUV's and casually stroll into the Bres. I'm bouncing up and down, yelling "ooooooooohh", singing Christmas songs, texting my ass off and trying to get the camera to notice me during every break in the action. Meanwhile the green seaters are stuffing their faces with $5 cookie sandwiches and complaining about the weather.
This shit has got to end...

Ya, everything I said is spot on, but you are right, I dont get it. I dont understand why these people waste their money coming to these games. If you can only get a boner for um, then only go to that game. Inferiority, big two little eight attitude. Cant wait till that mindsight goes away as that generation is no more. (not wishing death btw)
Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. - Groucho Marx
The 10%ers will never understand, which makes it a moo point.
This post delivers!
You suck at being a Spartan fan.
I thought it was "mute" point?
I'll second that. I don't care about them standing. I expect those old people to sit on their ass frankly. I'm in the camp of people that can notice that virtually every other arena I see on TV gets more noise out of their non-student fans than we do.
Yeah, but I'm a good dad and husband.
Sometimes you have to compromise, and leaving 1 minute early when the game's outcome was reasonably certain is how I could get to the game. At least I showed up, and showed up on time at all but two pre-conference game where I was out of town.. Unlike a lot of people, including the esteemed Izzone. And I sat through every home football game, including the Iowa game, until the very end. And traveled to Madison.
So, yes, I'm an awful fan. Just awful.

My Whiskey Blog
We all moved out of state
As a former green seater, this is part of the reason I watch the games on tv now. I can drink and stand up and scream as much as I want.
No. It's a moo point. It's like a cow's opinion. It just doesn't matter. It's moo.
Left right after work from Detroit and was there 1 min after tip. How far was ur drive from Wilson?
In fairness, other crowds like Indiana put the green seaters to absolute shame.
They need to step up their game.
ive heard some great stories about the fan atmosphere at the schools in KY and North Carolina. Its a bball culture in other places, and you would think it would be a stronger bball culture in East Lansing with all the final fours and recent success. Its going to take a full generation of fans to turn the culture around and of course that also means MSU bball is going to have to remain at the top for *another* 20 years.
