He's not the prototypical Block out the sun LT but he is quite an athlete for someone that size. Could make him more valuable come 2014 draft. He's only getting 3rd team reps as MD said Jackson/Kieler are 1-2 right now, but the more versatility the better. Get the best 5 out there and hope the linemanpocalypse has mercifully passed.
"losing Caleb Benenoch is a blow that Dantonio will never recover from. Izzo has lost it as well. Hoke and Beilein own the state."
I just don't get this one??
He is a starting tackle, this seems like a waste of time
4 states of being in the cannabis society ------------
Which one are you??
Doesn't project to OT in the NFL because he's only 6'4.
I think Fonoti and Kieler getting reps at C is more of a result of Jack Allen being out injured more than anything else.
Yea this is strictly for emergency situations/adding to Fonoti's versatility. If injuries did start to at the position I think the order of those who would play C are:
But last year we saw what injuries could do (again), so better to be prepared for every contingency.
yup, think this is more of a cautionary thing. never hurts to have guys that can fill in at multiple spots.
also, if fonoti is the captain of the line this year (gotta believe he will be), definitely can't hurt him to have experience at every spot so he knows what each guy is going through
Ugh....People hate that I constantly harp on the offensive line, but how can you not when we have this s*** going on? We haven't had a decent LT in years, and now we take our #1 LT on the depth chart and move him to center....Where we've had plenty of bodies to put there?
This is the Bollman cross-training at work.
There is plenty for Fonoti to learn at LT. This makes zero sense.
What about guys who can fill one spot adequately? Wouldn't it be nice to have that at LT?
Since when is "getting some reps" equate to "OMG FONOTI MOVED TO CENTER".
Since when do LTs need to get some reps at center? Has Fonoti mastered LT so well that we can afford to take reps there away and give him reps at center?
Fonoti is our best OT and arguably best OL. He has experience playing OG, RT, and LT. To have him as an extreme pinch backup in case of any issue with Allen's health is not a bad idea, especially since 2nd in line after Jackson right now is Kodi Kieler.
From him talking about it, sounded like they just had no 3rd C so they stuck him there. Same with Kieler , just a placeholder.
What interested me was that Jackson said that the centers and QBs will have more opportunities to change things at the line under Bollman.
You need to get yourself to spring practice immediately, and get control of this situation before Dantonio drives the whole thing into a ditch!
How do you know that the reps at C aren't during a time when he would be sitting on the side while someone else gets some reps at LT? Oh, that's right. You don't, because you aren't there.
Fire Roush... Ah crap that doesn't work anymore
With Co-OCs it gets a bit trickier. I think the safe bet is to go with "PUT IN TERRY" this year
I'd rather have a LT who is a master of one trade than a jack of all trades. We haven't had one in a long long time. There are people out there who will tell you it takes you 6 months just to learn the footwork to be a LT, because it's in many ways backwards from what you learn as RT. Who knows....Maybe Fonoti has completely mastered it and there's a reason he's taking snaps as a 5th string center. It smells like Bollman cross-training to me
Oh the horror of an athlete learning two positions. (Did you know Chris McDonald took snaps @ C during his workout? Shhhhh)
The obligatory WavSpartan panic attack didn't take long. You forgot the tirade about how OL recruits will write off MSU because they don't want to take reps at more than one position, ever.
Barrett Jones was All American at Tackle before he moved over and is a total freak....not quite the same thing.
Something smells alright....
This guy doesn't have enough downvotes. Step it up people!
The guy has been a RT since he got to MSU, and I believe he played the same position in junior college so not sure where/when he got all this experience at OG and LT you speak of. As for only being 6-4, Michael Oher is the same height, so that may bot be quite the hindrance some would say in the NFL. If they feel he can play, the NFL will come calling.
