I remember when I was living in GR, some guy shot a few innocent people then led a police chase through downtown and it made national news. Was it sad? Yes. Would it have been such a big story if it had happened on the east side? No.
I'm not saying that it isn't a nice city, because it really is. I'm saying when shit hits the fan it gets blown out of proportion because "it's West Michigan and bad things aren't supposed to happen there."
Yeah, it was national news but... it wouldn't have been the lead story on WDIV if it had been in Detroit... obviously shows how detroit is the vastly superior locale.
people from detroit are really stupid.
are you saying detroit detroit or the people who claim detroit and are really from royal oak, harper woods, taylor, redford township... or is it both?
everything up to and around ann arbor.
The amount of 10% in this thread is astounding. Well done, OP.

Not under 25 but I grew up and moved away, simply managed to avoid turning into a crotchety old man
I just moved here in the last year and I am technically in Ottawa County, so not sure I fit or understand this stereotype/hate.
But I agree with the comment about if it is someone out of the area you say Grand Rapids or Flint or Lansing, rather than Ada, Davison or Holt because know one knows where those places are. People not from Michigan only know Detroit and assume the UP is part of Ontario anyway....

Ummmmm. Ok. Sorry for having pride for and being enthusiastic about the city I live in. Ill try to make a more conscious effort to remind myself daily that I hate the place I live and try to express that in more often in public settings.
Shot a few innocent people?
He killed 7 people.
Yay! My hometown was noticed, and it wasn't even for a bad reason this time!
After living in metro detroit for 8 yrs and Around GR for 4, i can tell u GR >>>> DET and its not even close
