You can think that, but you'd be wrong. Do they have the resources of school like MSU? No, hard to when you don't have football revenue.
Go Bears, Blackhawks, White Sox, and Pioneers.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand
They may not have the overall resources of MSU, but what they do have, they spend on Ice Hockey and Skiing. Their hockey program is profitable, the rest of their Athletic Department is losing money hand over fist as they try to stay Division I.
Their most famous Basketball Alum is Michigander David Adkins....better known as:
That's ridiculous and laughably short sighted. What a horrible way to run an AD. Would you fire Dantonio if Tom Osborne came out of retirement? Anastos still has to prove himself but Coach Dantonio didn't have to replace the equivalent of 40+ scholarship players in one year like TA had to. Even Tom Izzo went to the NIT for two years while he put his program into place. Anastos made the tourney in yr one with a group that hadn't the previous 3 seasons. If we're still in last place in two years then bust out the pitchforks and torches.
"losing Caleb Benenoch is a blow that Dantonio will never recover from. Izzo has lost it as well. Hoke and Beilein own the state."

Apparently he's sniffing around my neck of the woods:
“One of the things every school looks for is someone with ties to the school and Maine certainly has quite a few of them,” said Gwozdecky.
Gwozdecky said he was a close friend of late Maine coach Shawn Walsh and replaced him as an assistant at Michigan State after Walsh took the Maine job in 1984. He said the Maine job is a desirable one.
“Absolutely. I don’t have any doubt about that,” said Gwozdecky. “Shawn built it into a powerhouse. They have tremendous support from the fans and with the job Tim has done [coaching and upgrading the facility] since Shawn has passed certainly makes it a highly valued, highly regarded position nationwide.”
George Gwozdecky quipped that he didn’t have much success at Alfond Arena when he brought his Miami and Denver teams to play the University of Maine. But he wouldn’t mind being the home coach rather than the visiting coach. Gwozdecky, who last week was fired as the head coach after ... Thank you, Denicos.
Keep us apprised.
Does this mean Comley has already turned down the Maine job? If so, that's a shame, it would be a wonderful place for you two to move.

I'd be shocked if Maine doesn't go with Jim Montgomery. He's built the expansion Dubuque Fighting Saints into a yearly contender in the USHL.
Montgomery has won the division two out of three seasons, won the Clark Cup in their inaugural season, and just won the Anderson Cup for best regular season record.
Why don't you apply? I'm sure there is health insurance. You could finally get the psychiatric help you need.

He's waiting on the Wings job.

Correcting all the idiotic things you say doesn't make me an expert on everything - it just seems that way to you.
Montgomery is a finalist for the Denver job, along with RPI's Seth Appert, Green Bay Gamblers head coach Derek Lalonde and Boston College associate head coach Greg Brown.
I'll take a wild guess and say that all four of those individuals would probably work for considerably less than what Gwozdecky was reportedly making before getting canned. (I'm not sayin', but I'm just sayin'.)
The University of Denver has tentative plans to hire a new hockey coach over the weekend and make the announcement early next week, a school source familiar with the search said Thursday.

I did find Gwoz's quotes in the article I linked rather humorous. "Oh, I'll take any job, any job at all. It would be great to go to a place where there are links. I have tons of links with UMaine. Uh, no comment on whether they've contacted me."
is an art, Gwoz. You've clearly mastered it.
What would you be here without BOG?
I am not sure you would be here at all.
Update: Appert has pulled his name from consideration. Montgomery is "considered the leading candidate."
Former University of Denver assistant hockey coach Seth Appert has signed an eight-year extension with Ressealear to effectively take his name out of list of finalists to replace the fired George Gwozdecky, his mentor.
Actually I enjoy a good hockey discussion. Most of the posters here are knowledgeable and you can learn quite a bit from them. Unfortunately our resident RCMB hockey idiot has to pollute damn near every thread with his love for Comley and the rest of his filibuster length stupidity.
Jim Montgomery is the new DU head coach, per USCHO.
He was a hell of a player and leader @ Maine.
Gwoz to UMaine, book it.
Actually, with the economy in Maine, the only way they pick up Gwoz is if he drops his salary demands significantly. But stranger things have happened -- he does have tons of links with UMaine, in case you didn't know.
Montgomery heading to Denver is an interesting development, but Maine certainly is the type of fit for a coach like Gwozdecky....traditional power, not a rebuilding job, has talent, and has lost a bit of focus. At this point, I'd be surprised if it doesn't happen.....

It'$ a po$$ibility, I $uppo$e. Up to him, really.
Like I said, I would be shocked. And shocked I am. Kudos to Denver and shame on Maine. The Black Bears really mucked that one up if the reports prove true.
Yes, I know Gwozdecky has connections with Maine ("tons" is a stretch), but with an alumnus with Montgomery's qualifications available, it seemed like a no-brainer to take Jim over George. I think every Maine fan and alumnus would agree with me.
The salary difference between Whitehead at Maine and Gwozdecky at Denver is only about $30,000. If Maine wants to upgrade, I don't think at least matching Gwoz's salary is out of the question.
Ohio State just fired Osiecki and rather unexpectedly. It wouldn't shock me to see them make a strong push for Gwozdecky, with Bergeron from Bowling Green as another potential....
