"It was tough offensively to get into the kind of rhythm we needed. They are a very physical team defensively, and we needed a guy who can break his man down and get to the rim and get to the free throw line. Of course, I don't know if anyone would have gotten to the free throw line most of the night," McCaffery said.
Did he throw a chair in disgust?
Uh, didn't they lose the game at the free throw line down the stretch?
go f yourself
Oh yeah, he must have forgot about that part.
Iowa!!!! Wahhhhh wahhhh!
Fouls were even at 17 and MSU had a 21 to 15 edge in free throws (which was really 17-15 in the flow of the game since Iowa fouled Appling twice on purpose with under 30 seconds left). Sorry Fran, when fouls and free throws are that even you aren't going to get much sympathy.
We are not the same, I am a Spartan
Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. - Groucho Marx
The refs were bad on both ends of the court, both charge calls. Missed a lot of contact on drives too.
"If you're worried about Wolverine fans, just move to Pasadena. You'll never have to deal with 'em."
Iowa has a basketball team? Who'da thunk...
I know they scrapped their football program to pay for Kirk's retirement, but I thought the BB team went the of the dodo as well, no?
Wow, I actually really liked the way the game was called in the first half and perhaps that was where he was coming from. The refs pretty much swallowed their whistles and allowed a lot of contact - they let them play. I liked that, it was very un-B1G-like.
The 2nd half, not so much.

Starting to dislike their coach more and more each time we play them. What a baby.
Cmon man. There's no bad blood between our programs. Every Spartan I know will be pulling for you guys in the NIT.
Nice empty seats against a top 25 team. jeebus
Maybe he should be more focused on that than whining about Izzo's style of basketball, which has only won him a national championship.
When Iowa wakes up and decides to fire his sorry butt, it'll be Izzo who comes to his defense! Ungreatful cry baby.
The will to succeed is important, but what's more important is the will to prepare.
McCaffery's antics are embarrassing. I know we also have a coach that is often fired up, but Izzo doesn't come across poorly like McCaffery does.
I wonder if his tears are as tasty as Scott Tenorman's.
University of Michigan: Keeping ugly girls out of East Lansing since 1837!
He wants to see unfair go watch the MSU basketball game at PSU a couple years ago or the football game at Hawaii. Those were things to cry about.
All told, I like Fran, he's got the right demeanor and attitude for a bottom feeding team if they ever hope to elevate. I don't know how long he'll last, but he seems to have the guys playing the right way and has made something out of nothing.
I grimace when I say this, but the reffing was not all that terrible for a B1G game (see what I did there).
Fran is a good coach and is going to get some better players there. When he does, the B1G is going to be even tougher.
With the players they've got now, you can see that even when they're outmatched, they play hard.
Nίκη για MSU
He seems like a really angry person. Everytime we play them he needs to be restrained by his coaches and nearly gets thrown out. I wonder if he is like that every game or if it is just with us.
I agree 100%. Iowa doesn't have a ton of talent (and they were missing their leading scorer), but he had his team playing hard and gave MSU a tough, scrappy game.
You should be glad Iowa doesn't come to East Lansing this season.
I can't figure McCaffery out. He looks like a small town pastor, but acts like Bobby Knight.
He is an emotional guy who gets his team to play hard. Izzo is an emotional guy too, but part of his genius is calculating how much of that to show to the press and the players. McCaffery needs to develop that skill. When you are fired up all the time, it loses some effectiveness.
And I thought the game was pretty well officiated. I disagreed with some calls, especially on some of the travels and non-travels called, but it seemed relatively consistent, and that is really all you can ask these days.
If we can trick Coach Krzyzewski into saying his own name backwards, perhaps he will be pushed back to the fifth dimension
