Am I the only one who thinks Iowa is actually UNDERachieving a little bit? If you look at that roster, there is some legit talent. White, Marble, Basabe, Clemmons. Solid depth too. They got out to a 12 point lead against us without their best player. Yet Iowa has no quality wins, unless you want to count Iowa State as a quality win. They should be better than this.
"RCMB: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainry." - some dude from MgoBlog
If Marble plays, maybe they win. Then they have a quality win. They'll get some.
Hard to say they're underachieving. Four of their five losses are to quality ranked teams (MSU, UM, IU, Wichita State).
I also didn't really think this was whiny or anything. He was just saying they needed to take it to the hole more, and that it was a physical game, where a ton of fouls weren't called. He didn't say anything about a foul disparity. Bottom line is that Iowa didn't have to take it into traffic in the 1st half (MSU's D was a revolving door then), and in the 2nd half, they missed their best player and couldn't take it into the paint.
I know it'd be tough for a non Iowa fan but listen to an interview of his when he's not coaching (as in not after a game). McCaffery is actually a very calm person outside of games. He's often calm in the locker room between halves as well. McCaffery is very much a good coach and person and Iowa is very happy with him and how he's progressing the program. 5 years ago Iowa is not in a position to beat 2 of the better teams in the conference like that. He's not going anywhere and most Iowa fans don't mind his anger on the sidelines. Yes, sometimes he goes over the edge like UNI last year or against MSU last year, but often times I understand his rage and that's how he is during games. I guess some people have a different way of showing passion and in all honesty when has it done him wrong? Everywhere he's been has became a winner and hopefully Iowa gets back there too.
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
Most rational fans of ours will say they predicted NIT this year and think last years NIT was kind of lucky (really lucky). Iowa is a year away from making any real push for the NCAA. All of Iowa's "talent" has flaws and hopefully that gets fixed with experience.
I like the direction of the program, and I actually enjoy watching these guys play. The sloppiness and poor shooting are starting to get tedious, but I love the energy of this team and coach. That said, seeing big muscular inside guys like Payne, Dawsen and Nix only reiterates how badly Iowa needs a banger. Freshman Adam Woodbury, while 7 feet tall, plays like a limp-dick feather. Basabe is still too rail thin to ever really be a force underneath ....
get the guy a whaaaamberlamps!!
Agree with this. The big ten allows for physical play and MSU plays physical defense. Iowa struggles to score against that kind of defense.
McCaffery is like a nerd douche
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
What does HBC stand for? Hawkeyes Bring Corn?
Ivy League MBA (Wharton), so I guess.
Hawkeye Breakfast Club. Its for the off topic board I guess because most of the posters there all came from different sites that they don't enjoy anymore.
why don't we get cool name badges?
University of Michigan: Keeping ugly girls out of East Lansing since 1837!
I'm not sure. I have been saving my participation points to buy a cool badge.
he tries too hard to look and act like Will Farrell.
Good call! I think I'll save up for the twitter badge
I like McCaffery. I think he is working HARD to turn a program around. The kids he has brought in don't have the talent level we do but play their hearts out and almost beat us. They will steal a win or two this season against the top of the Big10. If he gets the chance he will do great things at Iowa.
The guy coached at Siena College for God's sake. He took them to the tournament and got a couple HUGE wins in the tournament (Vandy and Ohio State) while taking them to the tourney 3 consecutive years.
Disagree. Big Ten refs are extremely ticky tack. The 1st half of that Iowa game was an exception, they were letting us play physical. In the 2nd half, it turned into a foul fest. It was like an entirely different set of refs were out there. Granted, we had a better 2nd half than 1st half, so it's hard to complain about it.
The refs you get in the tourney allow so much more, which I think is one reason for the success MSU has had in March. They generally let teams play and get away with a little extra contact, which has always favored MSU's style.
Just curious, do you enjoy Izzos' antics? McCaffery may look goofier, but they seem to be on par with category. I frankly think the cameras should keep away from the demonstrations(Izzo pounding the table)because its almost giving license to look like jackasses.
