What a joke
Sounds like somebody read Marv Marinovich's Guide to Parenting.
Wow. That dad is a total scumbag.
I kinda feel bad for Shabazz
Remind yourself. Nobody built like you, you design yourself.
over/Under on how many millions the dad siphons from Shabazz over the course of his career? I'll set it at 2.5
If he really wanted to breed a superstar, he should have just let Michael Jordan bang his wife.
Dominating Press Conferences Since 2007
This is an incredibly creepy article.
Around that time he met Faye Paige, a point guard, sprinter and hurdler at Cal State Long Beach. Spotting her at a summer league game, Holmes recalled saying to a friend: "See that No. 10? She's going to be my wife, and we're going to make some All-Americans."
Just really, really creepy.
The Bulloughs have been doing this for generations
I take it you guys wouldn't be on board with my master plan of teaching all my kids to be long-snappers from they day they're born?
im going to say "all of them"
Go Bears, Blackhawks, White Sox, and Pioneers.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand
I need a shower after reading that article.
Rooting even harder for Minny to take that clown down. Hopefully Mbakwe can show him how it's done.
I thought the article was interesting.
On one hand, Holmes is clearly an operator, and is trying to manipulate everyone around him to his/Shabazz's advantage (the whole thing about picking out a wife based on her ability to help him breed athletes is creepy as well). And if I were a team looking at drafting Shabazz, I'd be worried about his dedication to the game -- the NBA is full of extremely talented players, and a lot of what determines success is a player's motivation.
On the other hand, it's a scummy world out there. There is a well-entrenched system in place that is populated by a lot of slimy operators, and every one of those operators is looking out for their own interests. The system chews up and spits out a lot of kids without a second thought. If you can approach it in an intentional manner and protect your kid, who can blame you for trying?
Seems like a classic situation where the dad's overall theory makes sense, but the dad is a bit too untrustworthy for me to think that it's ultimately going to work out very well.
FUCK YOU THAT'S MY IDEA
"People questioned my methods, but I'll be damned if those kids aren't the best bullpen catchers in the league."
Let's partner up. I'll make the babies, you teach them to long-snap.
Better idea: My kids become kickers, your kids snap it to them, We do everything in our power to get them to the NFL, ?????????, Then we profit.
Jimmy the Greek just rolled over in his grave.
The man will take millions from the kid, live like a king, and it will all end up with bankruptcy/lawsuits.
Marv actually could have learned a few things from Ron Holmes.
Agree. Let them go to the draft at 18, but make them stay 3 years once they sign the LOI
Pretty much this. Holmes comes off like a real sleazeball, but on the other hand, his plan worked! He may be 20, and he may have had eligibility issues, and his dad may have a criminal record, but Shabazz is about to be a lottery pick and will probably earn an NBA paycheck for the next 10 years.
Jimmy was right
Are you going to allow the junior college route where you're eligible for the draft at any time like baseball in your master plan?
Beyond that, is it sleezy and, depending on the jurisdiction, illegal to covertly tape conversations between your "friend"/advisor and the NCAA? Sure. But the NCAA tried to screw him. So who can blame him for thinking it was a necessary step to take.
MY kid is going to be that sneaky lil bastard that flies in from the end and blocks your kid's kicks.
If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day.
