I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.
So, basically this is saying that if MSU announces a presser for Payne he gone?
I'd guess Appling, Harris, Dawson, payne, Costello
With Trice/Valentine/Gauan/Kaminski/Byrd the second 5 in
Dawson was way better at the 3 than the 4.. and I think Izzo said he wants to keep Payne at the 4 as that would be his position in the pros

Bring the Payne... with you
RT @joerexrode And by the way, Izzo did confirm no surgery on shoulder. So Harris returns AND has full offseason, best-case for MSU.
It means he will be playing basketball next year.
this. It will be Dawson / Costello / Payne a lot more often than it will be Valentine / Dawson / a BIG.
Might change it up and get more time for Valentine at PG, allowing KA to be the scoring guard. And swap at the other end, KA guarding the PG, Valentine guarding the bigger guard. That would be when Harris gets his 10 minutes of rest a game, assuming he is targetted for 30 MPG

My Blood Runs Green.....
That was what I struggled most with (besides the 9-10 guys)
I think there's a clear 7.5 man rotation (Appling, Harris, Dawson, Payne, Valentine, Trice, maybe Costello) - I'm not sold on Gauna, Kaminski, Byrd, or Schilling. Costello I think gets the nod over gauna because of youth and skill set; but I think if Gauna gets smarter and tougher, he could carve out 8 mins or so a game as a backup big that isn't a liability on offense.
I gave Valentine the nod over Costello just based on experience. That starting lineup is crazy athletic and would run run run; moreover, putting Valentine at SF could basically allow us to run our offense through the SF and let Appling play off ball where I think he's better. I think that starting 5 is better than everyone's save maybe UK and Duke.
Our backups scare me. I'm really hoping we can pick up a ready to play grad transfer to get a solid 8+ man rotation. Otherwise, I think we're going to be seeing a lot of minutes for our regulars. Of course, the B1G should be weaker next year, so maybe we won't have as tough / close games.
Serious question: What do you do to work on his game? Are there drills that you can get quicker with the ball? I guess the thing I would want him most to work on is ball handling, general S&C, and film study.
What I want to see is Dawson shooting about 2500 jump shots and 2500 FTs each day this summer.

Good news. Next up is Payne.
The moment is eternal
"If you're worried about Wolverine fans, just move to Pasadena. You'll never have to deal with 'em."
Attacking the basket, gaining strength. Harris at times this year was primarily a jump shooter, which was probably the third best part of his game in high school. Much of his staying on the perimeter was due to the injuries.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Know Izzi said Harros is good rebounder too, but wasn't able to work on it do to injuries
Hopefully he's back stronger and gets an even better all around game
Get stronger, improve consistency, work on handle (especially his left), work on quickness/explosiveness.
Lunardi has us as a #1 seed in the south already
I'm completely with you on the lineups. I think most people want a Costello/Payne frontcourt, but I would love to see AP as a stretch 5 in the mold of a more athletic Paul Davis and really open up the paint for Appling/Harris/Valentine/Dawson to get more drives to the hoop.
He can work a lot of creating his own shot and more curl screens. GH got a high percentage of his shots from kick outs and ball reversals to a location he was already at. Now that he will be the primary focus of the offense, he will need new ways to get off of screens and get shots. Think Mo Pete curl screens. Harris needs to be taking 15+ shot attempts per game next year and needs to develop more ways to score and more endurance.
Awesome news. Thanks for staying, Gary.
If Payne is back I don't see how Costello is not the starter at the 5. I think you see a ton of improvement but Valentine will be MIP. His Dad is too intense for that not to happen.
