yet they are the #1 team in the nation...not buying it. They have the best record but haven't played anybody relevant. They lost to Illinois on their home floor. They have had 3 tests this season and are 1-2. Wtf?? They are a solid team but in no way deserve to be #1. Indiana by far should be the #1 team in the nation right now. They have a healthy lead in the best conference in the nation. I hope we match up with these frauds in the dance. Would be nice to be a #2 seed in the Gonzaga pod, assuming they reach the 1 line. Bunch of frauds. If they played in the B1G they would be playing on Thursday of the Big Ten Tourney. The Big Ten has 3 top ten teams. Indiana is clearly deserving of #1.
Gonzaga beat KSU (who is in the top 10 in both polls) by 16 earlier this year. They also beat Oklahoma State (by 1, but a win is a win), who is ranked 13th. I guess that they're just not relevant enough, though.

I think Elias Harris and Olynyk are extremely overrated. Gonzaga is overrated. Very good team but would be a middle of the pack team in the B1G and Under Duke and Miami in the ACC.
I think they're good (granted haven't watched them much) but their conference screws them. they NEED to get out, get in the Mountain West or Pac12 and play some teams in conference.
Agree on one point. They are not the best team in the country, and the fact that they play in the WCC helps pad their record....
That said, the Zags are a sweet sixteen team without breaking too much of a sweat, and should go elite eight. They are quick, athletic, have competitive big men, and are well coached. Good shooting team, good from the line..... I wouldnt wanna to see them in the tourney. I'd like our chances. But they are legit. I can think of others in the top ten I would rather see. You can argue with their ranking. But don't discount where they are as a team right now. They are good.
Spartans ...committed to bring Paul Bunyan home in 2013.
If they are the 1 seed in the same bracket as a 2 seed MSU i would bet that Gonzaga wouldn't make to that match up anyway.
One word Football.
I think MSU could have their record or better with the same schedule. I want to be in their bracket come tourney time.
So your logic to put an Indiana team that just lost to an unranked Minnesota team is spectacular. Thanks for clearing up why you're no better than the douchebag pollster from North Carolina.
Shouldn't matter for a better midmajor conference (Mountain West), obviously would for the Pac-12.
Indiana has a 2 game lead in the best conference in the country. Enough said. Minnesota is a solid team and that was on the road. You're not making sense.
Their conference "screws them"... right into a #1 ranking this week.
In my opinion they are a Wisconsinish level team (though they wouldn't hold up to the grind by the end of the B1G season like Wisconsin is/has). Wisconsin is rated #20ish with what 9 losses?
Wisconsin is a regular season hero each year and folds up in the tourney not unlike Gonzaga, actually. That power conference B1G grind doesn't seem to translate to much tourney fame for the Badgers; and Wisconsin doesn't get to sniff #1 in the country because of it (the grind and tough conference slate).
I'd say Gonzaga has a sweetheart deal right now. They recruit well enough based off their constant over-rankings due to stellar regular season records in a talent bereft conference, and not having a ton of recruiting competition due to somewhat isolated geography (not a storied basketball rich region). You think they should give that up for middle of the pack in another conference?
Like Suggs said, that might make sense, possibly money-wise, IF football were involved (the real $ maker). But right now what's the incentive? They have good facilities, decent talent on the reg, and are known coast to coast as a Davidesque basketball power. And each year they get a shot at a real life Natty just like MSU, DUKE, UNC, Kansas, etc. There's no BCS bigotry like in Football, with the "this is only for the big boys with big names."
Gonzaga profits immensely off the mystique of their being the little engine that could...
Exactly. Gonzaga lost to freaking Illinois and Butler. At least Indiana hasn't lost to, oh wait...
Gonzaga's best wins are 19-9 Oklahoma, 24-5 KSU, 22-6 OSU, 2X 26-5 St. Mary's (RPI of 41, so not bad), and 2X 21-10 BYU (RPI of 61, so not terrible, but not great).
Are they the best team in the country? No. Have they played the most difficult schedule? No. But the idea that they've beaten absolutely nobody is ridiculous. They certainly benefit from playing in a weak conference and would not be in this position if they played in a conference like the B1G, but let's not act like the fact that they're #1 is some sort of travesty.
Seriously, who cares? We went over this when scUM took over the #1 spot, and yet everyone continues to forget that the #1 spot means absolutely nothing during the season. If they're really not a good team, then the tournament will expose them, and the only people who will remember Gonzaga was once the #1 team in the country will be their fans.
As much as I don't agree with Gonzaga being #1..good for them. Their biggest supporter is Jud and I am happy for Jud. Recently he has had some health issues so hope this makes him feel good.
So, you don't like Gonzaga?

Even though Indiana has a 2 game lead in the conference..I still think they are frauds. Indiana lost to Butler and Minnesota and Gonzaga lost to Butler and Illinois which in my opinion evens out. I still think Indiana will exit the tourney early even after getting the overall #1. They don't play elite defense which is something you need to win games in the tournament.
Looking at the top 10, I can not fins one matchup where I am certain one particular team would win, so I dont see how you can make this statement about Gonzaga.
Could they lose to every team in the top 10? Sure, but they could beat every team as well. In fact, I cannot remember a year in which you look at the top 25 poll and you can see teams like Syracuse (17), Arizona (18), and VCU (20) and honestly think that you would not be surprised if any one of those three made the Final Four. Very balanced and competitive field this year.
Considering we lost twice to those "frauds" (and just lost to a team that lost to PSU), I guess it means that we have absolutely no shot in either tournament.
I read the news today, oh boy .. ..

It's bozoirish. When he isn't busy being a total assbag he occupies his time by making no sense. Considering 92.7% of his posts involve being an assbag he doesn't have a lot of free time on his hands to make no sense.

It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Spartan!!!!
I've watched gonzaga play numerous times this year and while they aren't the best team in the nation they are definitely a top 10 team. The thing that makes them so hard to defend is their style of offense. They have so much balance it's impossible to key in on one guy and stop them. Yeah they might lose to everyone in the top 10 but to think they couldn't beat every top 10 team would just be ignorant.
They would lose to all the top ten teams, sometimes! They'd also beat them all, sometimes!
THIS. I want to be the 2-seed, or even the 3-seed, in their bracket, even if it means going West.
My Blood Runs Green.....
I heard the guys on the local rock station call it the Boise State effect this morning, and I think that's a perfect fit. Decent to very good team in an atrocious conference gets overrated based on perception aka record and margin of victory. The only difference is that I think a team like Gonzaga basketball will get exposed by the other really good programs out there
University of Michigan: Keeping ugly girls out of East Lansing since 1837!
Gonzaga as a program has proven itself. They are a legit Top Ten team. Now, you put them in the b10, they'd probably be above uw and maybe um due to their size. Few is a proven coach, and his formula for recruiting has proven to work. That is a very big team with great shooters on the perimeter. Disciplined and plays hard and has solid D.
Yep and Butler will never reach the Final Foul...
