Hoke and Robinson

  • I realize Robinson is talented (just not a talented QB) and the media loves him, but I have to believe Hoke will be glad when Robinson moves on. I know Robinson was hurt yesterday, but I thought the team played better with Gardner as QB. It was like they were a football team rather than an NBA team. I would not be surprised if Robinson is a WR next year.

  • Who gives a fuck? Hoke is a fat man, and Robinson is our bitch. 4-0

  • The UM fans I know will sure be glad when Robinson moves on. He's that classic tweener combo of slot receiver, RB and QB. They know they need him, but they also know he has serious limitations.

And what the F was up with the Fighting Zookers yesterday, keeping both safeties deep and allowing UM to run all they wanted to???? What the EFF?? Did they not get the league memo about forcing Denard to pass???

Illinois played horrible yesterday. They made MSU's offense look like world-beaters. Talk about a season-ending collapse, Illinois looks like a team of chumps at this point. Wisconsin is going to beat the hell out of them next week.

It would be horrible to have Zook as your head coach. Overall, a little less than mediocre, but every couple of seasons he does something that makes you think they have turned the corner. Kind of reminds me of Saban's time at MSU.

    Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance

  • Hate to say it but I don't think Denard will ever improve as a passer. He's sort of maxed out at the QB position but he's the best we've got right now. Gardner throws a better ball but he doesn't have enough experience to win against Nebraska or OSU. Next year will be interesting.

Is it true that Hoke is only recruiting one quarterback, Shane Morris 2013. Seems like long time to wait for a pro style quarterback plus putting all your eggs in only one basket!

  • HL you are weeks late.

Weeks ago many posters pointed out Robinson was as much handed the job when Branden had a presser and stated "Of course we willhave the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year as our QB."

So Hoke has been stuck with the ghost of rr, a big portion of his play book and rr's qb. Devin Gardner was getting very few reps and lots of happy talk with TaterTot abd Robinson ahead of him. Hoke wasn't going to stand up to Branden and replace Robinson but once again as the season goes by Robinson can't finish games against hard hitting defenses.

Its great for MSU since Hoke can't put in all his offense until Robinson graduates. Its awful for Gradner who is in nowhere land. A #2 QB who will be a senior when Hoke gets his first pro style QB from DeLaSalle who will almost assuredly enroll early.

He may only be a junior that year though. He won't know if he will get an extra year of eligibility until after the 2013 season. I really hope so because then he'll be the starter in 2013 and 2014 and Morris can take over after that. Maybe he'll even start next year, I don't know.

I agree with everything you said here. Robinson's lack of passing skills and his generosity is giving the ball to the other team limits Michigan's ceiling on offense.

Here's a question for you...Let's assume Michigan splits the final 2 and finishes 9-3. Looking back, would have have been in favor of handing the starting job to Gardner at the beginning of this year so that next year he would have experience? It would basically make this year a throw-away year and makes 6-6 or 7-5 a distinct possibility, but would set the offense up to be improved next year. It also brings up the possibility that Denard would have transferred since he wouldn't be the starting quarterback.

On the positive side, Gardner would have experience and the coaching staff would be able to implement more of the offense that they actually want to run. This would help Gardner, but would also help the rest of the players who right now are having to spend time learning a lot of plays that won't be around in a year or 2. Once Gardner/Morris starts the coaching staff is going to have to implement a new offense, which will cause a slow learning curve and could hurt the team in 2013.

What say you Michigan fans? Would you take the 1 year hit to set yourselves up for more success down the road?

I would absolutely choose 9-3 and Denard as the starter. As RR showed, you cannot just give away wins in your first year and expect to maintain momentum as a program and on the recruiting trail. A 6-6 type year this year and recruiting takes a huge hit.

No. It was far more important for Hoke to get to 8 (with a potential for 9 or 10, though I don't think that's in the cards) wins this year to help placate a win-now fan base and to show recruits that the program is stable. I also think Robinson is maxed out at QB. If he hasn't improved to this point, he probably won't going forward. I think the emergence of Toussaint will certainly help Gardner going forward on into next year because I don't think DR will be the QB next year. Next year will be very interesting for the Wolverines.

Absolutely not. I'll take 9-3 over 6-6 or 7-5 any year. I've seen the throw away season before, and it's not good for the team, recruiting, or fans. For Michigan to actually be in the race at all is something that this team needed.

Interesting question but no, that would have caused a QB controversy immediately after our first loss (probably ND) that would have continued throughout the season and may have done more harm to Gardner than good. Hoke's major project this season was getting the defense back on track and I think he did that. He will have to address the QB position next year though.

  • There is a um 24/7 board now. Get out of here with this shit.

  • I believe Hoke wants to fashion his UM team along the same lines that Dantonio has constructed MSU. However, even when he does, things will never be the same between MSU and UM. UM's dominance is over. I think it will be the home team wins 90% of the time with one team winning back-to-back once in a while.

Disagree, unfortunately. Your beloved Wolverines could go 3-9 and still clean up on the recruiting trail, as they very recently did.

Recruits still think that helmet means something. It takes a long, long time to change perceptions.
