The passing game showed huge signs of improvement, the Defense remained strong as always, and this team kept plugging away.
Bring to me all your downvotes while "demanding excellence."
I sort of agree. This is the first game this year where I saw signs of "Spartan Football" as we have come to know it.
Just need to put it all together for 60 mins.
Behind every successful man is a woman, behind her is his wife.
I saw a lot of heart out there by this team...our receivers improved, but they still lost us the game. We control our destiny to the Rose Bowl and it is looking like the receivers have the team's fate in their hands.
Clearly, we have a qb that is able to make the big time pass in the big time situation.
Not there yet. Give me a few days maybe.
I think the WRs can improve, but I don't see the OL improving enough (especially with injuries) to sustain a consistent running game.
Prepare for a deluge of down votes. I'll try to help with a +1.
Personally, we're one game south of where I thought we'd be. I had tOSU game as a loss preseason but thought we'd beat ND. I expected a slow start with an almost entirely new set of skill players, and anyone who didn't had no one to blame but themselves for unrealistic expectations.
Unfortunately, the outlook isn't great with the massive O line problems. That's going to be tough to overcome.
Defense played strong? Gave up 200 rushing yards and couldn't make a stop when they needed to.
And how many points?
It is mysterious as to why the D can look so dominant for huge stretches and then disappear on key drives.
That being said, it's hard to be critical of a D that got 3 TOs and only gave up 17. They did their part.
I thought the guy throws a good ball
Yeah, my fear is that we're slowly trading WR problems for OL problems. On the bright side the two toughest DL we face this season are behind us. I could see this team winning-out with Nebraska being a toss-up.
He does. He needs to throttle down a little and our WR need to help him out.
I like the optimism, but I fear the lack of intangibles will cost us a game or two we should win on paper. As I said above, anyone who underestimated the loss of Cousins and our senior leaders not just because of talent but also because of intangibles was fooling themselves. There's a reason they amassed the record in close games they did.
Looking back on it I think the OP is right. It was frustrating while I was there, but we still had over 250 yards of passing. If a couple of those drops were cleaned up, it could have been 300. That's a pretty solid outing for a QB.
You know, even though it was apparent that the offensive line was overmatched, I thought they "hung in" as best they could. Maxwell didn't have a ton of time but he had ENOUGH and was able to get off quite a few throws while only getting sacked twice.
We'll be alright, we absolutely HAVE to get better these next two weeks, but if we can get back to 5-2 heading into AA, I think we will end up just fine.
I said 9-3 at the start of the year and I'm sticking there. 8-4 is probably what we end up, though. Which I can live with. This program still has a ways to go.
Pretty pathetic that we're so happy when our receivers catch passes in the 5th game of the season
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
No doubt it wasn't the D's best effort to date and I am pissed that Miller got his yards, but I do see signs of improvement in the passing game. Still not anywhere near where it needs to be, but I have reason for optimism. I think Maxwell is doing a better job of moving in the pocket and I think he is making much better decisions under duress. I thought the dagger came when Sims caught that pass that got us down to the O$U 15 and then got called back for holding. We looked confident in the passing game on that drive and that penalty just took the wind out of our sails. Nevertheless, I will continue to drink the green Kool-Aid and hope to see more of that in the future only without the soul crushing penalties.
Give them NOTHING but take from them EVERYTHING.
Maxwell has improved IMMENSELY since week one and especially, the last six quarters of football. I think we have a pretty damn good player on our hands, he just really needs another wideout to emerge.
Lippett and Fowler both have raw potential, they just have gotta start making plays. Mumphrey is what he is, a rich-man's Jeremy Scott who is a little undersized but has a ton of heart and runs awesome routes. If Lippett and/or Fowler can emerge, I think we'll be ok.
You really do need to get a fucking life
I think Maxwell makes fairly good decisions (save for missing Bell in the flat on the last drive), and he's done a good job in protecting the ball over the last four games. He's getting better.
I really don't think he's the problem. The well-chronicled WR issues are one issue, but the line play is the biggest, and since no one gets healthier during a football season, it's likely to get worse.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
The team grew up a lot yesterday. This was not a bad loss and the fact that MSU still could have won despite the bad call was encouraging. Felt completely differently than after the ND loss. Maxwell played his best game and the receivers improved. Mumphrey's TD will be a big boost to his confidence. Lippett got nice separation yesterday and turned the bd around a couple of times. Need to get the run game going with a reshuffled OL.
The moment is eternal
Ignore everything Clarett said and go straight to being a whiney chicken shit. It's what you do best T-pussy
"losing Caleb Benenoch is a blow that Dantonio will never recover from. Izzo has lost it as well. Hoke and Beilein own the state."
So getting Treadwell and Fonoti back from injury wouldn't help at all? Got it.
This place I swear to God is such an abortion after losses. We need to get this whole "11-win mentality every season" out of the fucking equation. Its NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. MD is going to have an 8-4 season every now and then, just like everyone that isn't Alabama or LSU has to endure as well.
Hmmm, defense looked strong? Disagree. Defense was garbage yesterday. Gave up over 200 yards rushing and couldn't get off the field when needed.
Eff that! The refs lost us that game! If it wasn't for the refs we'd be 5-0! Effin conspiracy if you ask me... Damn delaney is pushing hard for his big two. I have no doubt we will get screwed in Ann Arbor.
When does Fou come back (too lazy to search on mobile)?
Obvious walverine is obvious.
