No we didn't. Not even close.
It was a semi surprise when he first announced he was leaving.

meh, probly so: kinda like Memphis beating our ass with kids that had no business being NEAR a college and then having to vacate it in disgraceful fashion. SUre would have been interesting if they wouldn't have choked and got beat by Kansas in the final. While I SURE don't want the 'Cuse to win it all this year it would be kind of funny to watch the NCAA's "investigation" unfold after the fact.
Interesting...not one mention of Crean's blow-by in that thread.
You gotta run and that takes Zeller out as well.
If Zeller and Oladipo leave, then IU will still be talented, but not even close to having "tons of 5 stars" ready to step in. The only 5 stars on their roster will be Ferrell and incoming freshman Vonleh. They will also be extremely small. They have a big guy in Jurkin, but I doubt he's close to being able to contribute (not to mention he's only 230 lbs). They'll likely have to start Hollowell at the 4 and Vonleh at the 5. They'll be talented, but extremely young, not able to bang inside, and without their 3 best outside shooters.

I'd say that's quite a stretch.
Burke would've been silly to leave last year, he would've had a hard time being a first round pick. He right now is a borderline lottery pick and I highly doubt he will get higher than that if he stays due to his size.
Hardaway JR will likely leave too as he has played himself up to a borderline first round pick. GR3 may leave too. Doesn't seem like the college game interests him a whole lot and he's a predicted lottery pick.
Even if UM only loses Burke, they'll take a step back next year. He is their entire team.
It is the cuse who the ncaa person said a few weeks ago that in their current investigation, you could open any page in the rules book and throw a dart and hit a rule syracuse violated? That program makes me sick, after reading all the stuff that came out about them during the molestation accusations. Then heard even more stuff, like boeheim doesn't even show up to practice for three days.
Uh, have you seen Spike Albrecht play? He's like a white Avery Queen.
IMO Crean and IU blew it. You often see certain teams build up to a championship and I believed that when IU played their best basketball they probably were the best team in the country this season, however like anyone else they had some nights where they struggled and it cost them last night. They looked small and a step slow all night and the zone gave them fits. For IU though I think it will be at least two or three seasons until they are in the national title conversation again. They are losing 4 of their top six players and while they have some good talent coming in most freshmen don't come into college ball and light it up right away. The one thing that will help IU at least in conference is as good as it was last year it could be pretty weak next season. MSU, IU, OSU, and UofM depending on the NBA draft could all be losing key players.
Agree, this was there best window. You don't get a NPOTY come around that often. Plus they had a good balance of experience + scoring from all 5 positions on the floor.
That being said you can practice against a zone, but unless they can clone Oladipo, the scout team isn't going to replicate playing against a zone with the athletes 'Cuse plays zone with.
They panicked and failed to adjust when their near spastic pace of play just resulted in a turnover fest. Crean can tell them where to pass it, but it's not a video game, he doesn't have a controller moving themaround, they have to make the plays themselves.
As was mentioned in another thread, Crean only coached two games against Boeheim. Marquette wasn't in the Big East until 05-06.
I agree with this. He does a damn good job of getting his teams ready to go. They're gritty and get after it, and they have good talent.
Seeing Vander Blue succeed like he has in this tourney hurts just a little bit.
Jamil Wilson too
Crean must have learned how to play against a zone from Izzo.
and they should have lost to Davidson.
I'm not sure if UW ever recruited Wilson. Regardless, another in state guy that turned out.
WTF is that supposed to mean. How many times have we lost to Syracuse in the tournament.....0
I remember when MSU played Minnesota back in the late 70s. Minny had 6' 10"Kevin McHale (3rd overall pick in the 1980 draft) and 6' 10" Mychal Thompson, (1st overall pick in the 1978 draft). Twin Towers that gave teams, including MSU, fits with their height and athleticism. Leading up to the game, Jud gave the scout team tennis rackets to use in practice to simulate the reach and range these guys had. Point is, there are effective ways to simulate things in practice.
Its five o'clock somewhere.
No we didn't, we all said Burke was crazy for thinking about leaving because he was a 2nd round pick at best at the time and were laughing our asses off at the thought of UM without Burke this season.
Burke did the right thing by coming back. He'll get picked between 15 and 20 if he leaves which would be the only rational thing for him to do. Staying won't improve his draft status one bit, if anything it will go down with the 2014 draft class expected to be so strong.
Honestly not implying anything, but I just looked and Bo hasn't signed a black guy from WI since Trevon Hughes in 2006. That's crazy.
That's a great story. But the "Cuse players don't just beat you with their length. This isn't some passive zone, they trap and often aggressively attack any ballhandler in front of them, trusting that their backside is covered if the guy gets by them.
Who in the world do they think they will get that will be a better coach for them? Izzo? Coach K?
Crean, for all his faults, is not a hack coach.
Too many people at "Fork Down U" can't get past the good years they had with Bobby Knight. They even forget the bad years they had with Bobby Knight.
Get real, Hoosier fans!
Bo hates black guys???....from Wisconsin????
I don't think Burke stays, leave while your at your highest... Thomas, more than likely is gone, but Ross... no way does he leave early, ridiculous to even think that. Payne, he's the guy that would hurt MSU if he left early. Watchin other big time "Big" players leave and then have issues, (i.e. Oden and Sullinger) if I was Zeller, I'd bail and get my money asap.
