Watch this, Keith. Look at the arc on your jumper.
Detroit Pershing vs University of Detroit (Michigan basketball state playoffs) March 2009
Fife has a wonderful opportunity on his hands. He has a legit playmaker of a guard in Appling to work with. Appling is very coachable and eager to be a protege.
I think as Fife matures in his role and catches up to speed in his job, that Appling will blossom into an All American playmaker and Mateen Cleaves style leader of this team.
Its like night and day. His shot has really deteriorated since then. The amazing thing is even just last year, his shot looked so much better. I think if he gets back to focusing on the arc and can knock down he few, his shot can go back to what it was last year. The weird thing is he continues to hit is free throws.
Sidenote: Damn, Derrick Nix could run for a big guy. He was moving out there.
Everybody pitch in to get him a ZJ?
Post pics of naked boobies?
i wonder if some of his early struggles tonight had to do with trice coming back, i felt like he was turning the corner a bit with trice gone for whatever reason
Here are his minutes since Trice was out
35 minutes vs Wisky, 35 min vs Purdue, 36 minutes vs MN, 32 min vs Nebraska and 32 vs IU.
Part of his struggles are a pair of tired legs
Need to lock Appling and Dawson in a gym with coach Herner for about a month. Those jumpers need some work.
bring that iowa cheerleader to his apt for a happy ending
Matt Foley visit to practice
He hasn't been using his speed to put pressure on the defense. When he does he gets open shots or quickly gets back in transition to score or dump the ball of to a trailer. He just hasn't been able to do it the last couple of games. It was good to see Trice back today. Maybe that will be a relief for Appling and give him some rest.
We could try not tearing him apart in game threads
Who is coach Herner???
The best shooting coach in that program (or any program, IMO). Look what he has done for Nix free-throws. Dawson needs the same attention and will get it. He is the assistant video coordinator.
He just needs a slump buster. Send him to Ann Arbor for an evening, plenty of fat chicks there.

Damn you! I was just going to make a Mark Grace slump buster joke.
Looks like I need a new moniker... Appling and Byrd are not cutting it. Valentine will be the answer at point (offensively). Appling cannot get the offense to flow AND get his own offense going simultaneously.
Make sure he never reads the crap that is spewed here.
I read the news today, oh boy .. ..
About a lucky man who made the grade
I was going to suggest hooking him up with Taylor Swift but freakin Tim Tebow has messed that one up.
Have him KILL FIVE HOOKERS LIKE CRAIG JAMES.

It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Spartan!!!!
I don't think there's a problem. I think that pretty much all season, Appling's focus has been defense, passing, and getting to the rack. You can only work on so much at a time, he's a natural scorer and that's not going to disappear, I just think that's not really what he's working on in practice. His defense has been really underrated, he's a good combination of quick and physical on D.
Let me preface this by saying that I love what Keith is doing on the defensive end and with running the team's sets. He's been a critical part of this team's run to a B10 Title. But at the end of the day, he's shooting 15 freaking percent from 3 in the Big Ten.
There's a problem.
This isn't a Travis Walton defensive role player we're talking about. It's Keith frigging Appling. He is way too good a shooter and scorer for him to be such a liability on the offensive perimeter.
Hopefully for the program's sake it's fixed by next season cause with Day Day, Austin and B.Wood leaving, the team is definitely going to need some consistent (above 35%) perimeter shooting from him. Fortunately I have a ton of confidence that he'll be able to turn things around. Reason being, for as important as he is to this year's team, I think he knows that he's going to be twice as important to next year's team.

He's not stupid. I don't really understand why basketball players go through slumps, but he'll come out of it. It might be next year, who knows. Hopefully it's in March... But he'll be fine.
