I thought they aren't allowed any association with uofM.
The ban ends this Spring.
I think they had a ban for so many years and the ban is up.
Want to say it was 1.5 or 2, but can't remember who was actually favored.
Bottom line, Martin wasn't in this for the fun of it. He used the players to launder his money, but that can;t be the only reason. There are plenty of other ways to launder money that are easier. Given that Martin was running a gmbling ring in Detroit, he was definitely involved with mobsters.
I remember those U of M teams, seems like they would play like garbage and barely beat teams they were heavy favorites against quite often. Anyone who thinks Martin just gave these kids money for nothing is naive. Point shaving had to be at the heart of this or there was no real reason for Martin to pay out $616,000 that was proven and maybe $Millions more that wasn't found. You're running a gambling ring, you're in it to make money, you aren;t just giving that kind of cash to students because you think it's cool to hang with them.
And yet, Steve Fisher gave him tickets to UM basketball games (behind the UM bench) and approval to stay on the "team floor" at the hotels for away games and tournament trips
This was of the most corrupt era of UM basketball and still ESPN hires that idiot Jalen Rose.
If you believe Fisher and the former UM players, Ed Martin was just a guy that loved the "kids" and college basketball.
One of the most damning facts was that on more than one occassion, Ed Martin accompanied U of M coaches while they were visiting recruits in their homes. This implies that Frieder and Fisher knew exactly what was going on and were brining along their cash guy on recruiting trips. That's just insane.
Sadly he died of "natural causes" during the federal investigation so we'll never know.
This is almost certainly true but your life isn't getting any more complete by trolling UM-themed threads on an MSU message board.
He died of a Pulmonary embolism.
Not this shit again. Can't a guy just rest in peace for awhile? For the first time since loaned out over a half a million dollars my beloved boys have risen to the top of the basketball world again where they rightly belong. Everyone was talking about them yesterday and even bringing up my fab five. God those kids had a great work ethic. Saving all that cash I loaned them so they could repay me back after the payments on the Escalade were made. Couldn't even afford a pizza after a game. Pretty soon we'll be playing Duke again for national championships and those chumps in E. Lansing will be torching couches and stealing street signs.
Since I've been "under the weather" for the past few years, who paid off this current crop of freshman superstars to come to michigan?
Dude is brilliant.
PS: Bo says hello to everyone.
its called point shaving and game fixing.....there's a reason webber called a timeout AFTER the refs missed a blatant traveling.
Thought I read that he ran numbers or ran a numbers game in the plant... essentially an illegal lottery..been a mob activity for decades and everyone knows this went on in the auto plants. And , just some food for thought,
Anyone that tells you that Webber just had a brain fart in calling that time out when scum didn't have one.. thus causing scum to lose the championship game...must also believe in fairy tales, tinkerbell, astrology, alchemy and little green men. If that wasn't a "thrown" game as pay off for gambling interests I don't know what was. I absolutely HATE the lazy journalism ESPN and others do with this "Fab Five" talk, tv specials, etc... Its all garbage.. .the fraud five never won a B10 title, or B10 tourney title or an NCAA championship. They were all fluff and frauds. .. that organization was full of cheaters extrodanaire, dirty as is possible to be. And I equally hate that that little snivelly, nasal, crooked piece of shit Steve Fisher is still allowed to coach in the NCAA.. Shows what hypocrites the suits there are too.
Unions don't hire union workers, too expensive.
shame Opti isnt around to dust off his files and educate all of us
Go Bears, Blackhawks, White Sox, and Pioneers.
Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand
There was so much smoke coming for UM for decades, and even this thread highlights a small portion of the un-asked questions, and yet no major media outlet ever wanted to do any investigative journalism concerning the case.
I laugh every time UM fans make a big deal about OSU and Jim Tressel. OSU was peanuts, chump change, etc.
