Yeah, its not necessarily a zero sum game.
I'm sure the Chinese lead companies love him .
Couple of times a month to buy shot gun shells. Their hand gun ammo is too expensive.
"I think the world is run by C students"
I only shop there when I feel like getting stuck behind some 350-pound asshole in the u-scan line who has 50 items and wants to pay in quarters and dimes.
I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I don't have a problem with the way they run their business. If people want to buy cheap crap made in China, let them. Why should Walmart make products here if they can do it cheaper overseas and make more money? Because it's a "feel good story"? It's business, not charity.
I might get Windshield Wipers there maybe some other commen item that will be super cheap there. Probably once or twice a year overall
Where do you get your American flag bandanas then?
Pretty much never. Been there a few times in my whole life.
I always thought their hand gun ammo was pretty cheap. .40 box of 100 for around $31 or so? (Federal or Winchester).
In regards to the OP, I try to avoid that place like the plague. We choose to shop at King Soopers (aka Kroger) and pay the slightly higher prices, just to avoid the shit show that is Walmart. No exaggeration, the Walmart here might be one of the worst offenders... its amazing the type of people you see there that you don't see just a mile down the street at the King Soopers. Not only that, but the Walmart here is also a cell phone dead zone - even when you drive by it, you lose service. Something weird going on there...
I don't care if people want to buy cheap shit either. I would remind them of the old adage, "buy it cheap, buy it twice" however. Also, not to get too Wells, but the beef with Walmart isn't simply that they sell cheap stuff or put other mom and pop places out of business. My beef is that they offer their low prices in part by paying people like shit and keeping them part time so they don't have to give them health benefits. Guess where those folks go for health care? Medicaid or the emergency room! In either case, you and I pay for their health care so the Walton's can sock away another several billion for themselves.
Don't know if I've ever agreed more with something posted on this board.
About as often as I read or click on a link to the DetNews or the Freep, as well as Huge's radio show....never.
I've found that they're more expensive than Meijer for groceries. If you really compare the two, you'll see that they are similar in pricing. Plus, you've got to watch the quantity and sizes when comparing prices. Walmart got in trouble a while back for having the manufacturer use the same packaging, but less quantity in it (e.g., box of Cheez-its is the same size, but the one at walmart only has 14 ounces, while the one at Meijer has 18).
I don't believe they're allowed to have the same size boxes anymore, but the sizes only differ slightly. Check the quantity, then compare price.
I never shop there for groceries since it's never cheaper than Meijer. I will go there on occasion if they have a big sale on something (Black Friday for instance), but I know I'm going to get what I pay for in the way of quality. I also go there for my motor oil when I change the oil on my vehicles. I always save a few bucks through them. Motor oil and practice target ammo is the only reason I'll stop in regularly.
"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." - Mark Dantonio.
I have heard about how they pay there employess jack shit so they have to get EBT's and then those employees come and use that EBT at Wal Mart. So we end up paying to feed their employees as well.
Black Friday at Walmart?
Not from Michigan and didn't really hit Meijer's much as a student, but usually hit them up for tailgate supplies when back for games.
They really do a great job in contrast to WalMart. Like most everyone that has replied, I find the total WalMart "experience" repulsive and depressing. It is always a tight competition for which group looks more miserable, the customers or the staff. Consistently dirty and no attempt to make products attractive.
Meijer's has attractive displays, friendly staff, normal humans as customers and prices that don't encourage you to look elsewhere. Kind of surprised they haven't grown more but maybe that's how they like it.
It's a town full of losers. I'm pulling out of here to win!
Again they have increased the quality of life for the poor in our nation with their cheap prices and have given millions of people jobs.
I will need some stats on the overall good Wal Mart has done in the community, that said I have had 3 horrible experiences shopping their and vowed to never go back. I am willing to pay my local car guy 5 more bucks for a battery and some windshield wipers.
You have no idea how crappy Walmart is to their employees - the working welfare class. Think of all the stores you appreciate and then imagine them out of business due to WalMart. That's what is happening all around the country, a methodical degradation of our standard of living and product quality thru ruthless negotiaton and borderline unethical human relations issues and while masking the true depth of the miserable underemployment picture in this nation. Labor and anti-trust laws were enacted to deal with this shit class of a company and more needs to be done. Bravo for Fred Meyer for telling his secretary to say "I'm busy" when Sam Walton called.
did walmart fuck your sister?
There is a WalMart and a Meijer equidistant from my parents' house in MI. Whenever we go home, my Vietnamese wife (who, although born in Vietnam, was raised in California), gets excited and says "Can we go to Meijer while we are home??" So we always make a trip to Meijer and stock up on shampoo, toothpaste, Advil, etc., which is easily 25-30% cheaper than in NYC. We never make the trip to WalMart.
Any day can be black-eye Friday at Walmart.

I absolutely DESPISE Wal-Mart...if I go there, it's most likely because there's something I need there that I can't get at Walgreens, K-Mart, or Kroger here in town. Most of the time, I try to do my best to hold off and go to Meijer (next town over, about 25 minutes away) instead. Since there is really nothing else in my home town, I unfortunately find myself in Wal-Mart more often than I'd like.
