From the freep:
HOYER VISITS: Former MSU quarterback Brian Hoyer took part in today’s practice. Hoyer was recently picked up by the Arizona Cardinals. He played part of Sunday’s game and completed 11 of 19 passes for 105 yards with an interception.

Too bad the current staff can't.
Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.
that makes a lot of sense, Maxwell reminds me of Smoker and Hoyer. Hopefully he can step up to what those two guys did
I hope so too. Maybe Hoyer has told Maxwell that there's a lineage between Smoker, Stanton, Hoyer, and Cousins that breaks or lives on after 2013... no pressure here.
Would you trade Maxwell for Hoyer if you could? Tough call. I think Maxwell is more physically gifted, but Hoyer was maybe more of a gamer.
In a heartbeat. Hoyer was one of my all-time unsung-hero-Spartans.
Downvote me if you want but Hoyer was not that good here.
How in the world does maxwell remind you of smoker? Note I am a sunshine blower and love them both and want nothing more than for maxwell to turn into a first round pick but I don't think they are remotely close. Please elaborate.
He was a steady game manager, and that's what we needed out of him while the program was making a comeback. Cousins was clearly more gifted and made more big plays, and the program reached its highest levels since the late 80's with him at the helm.
Maxwell, on the other hand, is a dumpster fire.

Makes you wonder. Sad but our QB is a dud. Hopefully we can develop one of the younger guys.
Its five o'clock somewhere.
MSU would be 10-2 this year with Hoyer at QB.
I say we'd be 10-2 with any O-line MSU has ever had except this year's.
You remember in '07 when MD was saying the team needed to "learn how to win". They lost some close games and a lot of peeps didn't think Hoyer was the man for the job. Part of it's the rookie QB thing, part is no OL, and a big part is a weak O staff, or at least OC.
Exactly, and Belichick hasn't a clue on drafting QB's.
Maxwell's got a better arm, and Hoyer never completed a deep pass in his life.
However, it's not like our OL was dominant under Hoyer, either.
Hoyer had Devin Thomas... If one of our receivers played like Devin Thomas early on it might have been a different story (not drastic).
Easily...put hoyer on the roster as a senior this year and he is the greatest qb ever at MSU hands down. The guy just needed a cleansed supporting cast around him like we had the previous 2 seasons.
Even in 07, MSU scored 41 points in a L to NW, 34 points in an L to Wisky, 27 points in an L to Iowa and 24 points in an L to UM. If MSU had the 2007 offense this year, we might be in the natty game.
Hoyer was drafted?
if maxwell had hoyers o-line(2007) and devin thomas we would have gone 13-0
and he got beat by a rookie 3rd rounder in NE for backup spot. Not to mention he can't secure a starting spot on a team who's starting ryan lindley. down vote me to hell but hoyer was not good and threw some crazy headscratching untimely interceptions. He got bailedout by thomas and davis many a times and ringer was there to take the pressure off
Hopefully Maxwell doesn't play like Hoyer did in his bowl against BC.
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
Hoyer and it's not even a question.
This is really a tough one. Who to believe? SpartyFever or several NFL teams over the years that has kept Hoyer on the rosters of football teams played at it's highest level?
Hoyer was a very good QB here who helped set up the success of the Spartans teams' in the past couple of years. Too say he wasn't that good here is ridiculous. We might not have been the greatests TEAMS in those years, but Hoyer was the least of our problems.
