I know this is beating a dead horse...but I really do. Let me put in full disclosure by saying I love MD and this staff and think they'll be fine...its just Enos seemed to bring a youthful energy that we needed to close on recruits. I'm not going to lie, back when I was 18 years old I'd probably be more enthused to have Enos recruiting me over lots of others on the staff. I feel like you need a guy like that who can kind of bridge the gap between the older coaches and kids.
I wish him nothing but the best at CMU, but he was a closer. Period. If he ever leaves Mount Pleasant, you have to get him back on this staff right away. He owned Detroit for us.
That said, Go Green! Hopefully we get some good news after this weekend.
He's a very good coach and recruiter as well as a great human being.

You can have him! He took our NCAA National Title Contender and put it in the shitter!!!!
scUM fans on campus
Agreed. MSU has enough fan support, enough on the field success, and the facilities to be able to get some of the guys they are losing. They are missing the closer. Whether it is Enos, or whether the guys currently here need to pick it up, something needs to happen. Some of the guys they are losing to UM, namely OL, just don't make sense. They have 8 or 9 blue chip OL the last 2 years. We can't get one of them to come here and have a chance to play?
To be fair, he earned his recruiting reputation when RichRod let his guard down in the D. Hoke obviously has an effective gameplan over there now. Not sure Enos would make a difference.
With that said, I agree with the OP on his points regarding youthful exuberance.
The sky isn't falling, but we are definitely getting worked on the recruiting trail.

The recruiting process isn't about youthful exhuberance. These kids aren't stupid. It's about what the coaches think the recruit can bring to State, and what the kid and his handlers think MSU can do for him.
Results on the field and a chance to start and/or star on the team are all that matters in many cases.
I like Enos for personal reasons. He was a great spartan, but come on...
Post as if your wife was sitting on my lap.
Its without a doubt a part of it. "Stupid" has nothing to do with it. Sometimes you connect with a coach for whatever reason. BW was good at it for many years back in the day. Why do you think GP and NS kept him around? His coaching ability??

Sure sometimes you connect with a coach. Saban thinks BW is a good RB coach, which he is. He also can connect with some recruits. Saban didn't want to do the work of attracting recruits to MSU, he wanted to go to a ready-made recruiting giant (his quote was something like "I'm tired of playing second-fiddle to Michigan"). He realized that it's a YEARS long process of producing on the field and building a reputation was not the direction he wanted to go in. His stock was high and he wanted to WIN NOW, which he did. More power to him. MD will probably be offered the opportunity to do the same soon, if he hasn't already. He seems to be the guy that wants to build his reputation and career on building up a small program into a national power. I hope so. The reason I'm saying this is because I don't believe that one guy as a recruiter generally makes all that much difference. Some, sure, but very little in the scheme of things.
MSU still has a long way to go as a program. The sky is the limit in my opinion, as long as the stability of the MD regime is around.
how do you explain Mike Locksley landing all those big time recruits from DC and maryland at Illinois?
**** Vontae Davis, ***** Arrelius Benn are the headliners but they land probably another 5-6 ***.
Did I not say "generally". That means the same thing as "on avereage" or "most of the time". I woud prefer the long-term approach that MD takes to flashy recruiting. If you didn't notice, Ilinois sucks.
didnt say they dont suck just pointing out a situation where the recruiter landed star recruits 1/2 way across the country to a shitty fball school.
Yeah, sure if MSU blew their whole wad on a couple 4-5 stars, they could get them too. You have to build a team. 2 or three really talented players do not make a team.
Enos is one of the nicest people you will meet. But thinking he would be holding up the dam of the full court press Hoke is pushing with help from everyone who were angry at the way Lloyd Carr was replaced is whistling through graveyards.
Quit crying because umaa has hired a guy who is loading up early. That philosophy has come back to bite big time programs in the butt. Its happened at PSU, Texas, Florida under Meyer and other places. There are other players out there and there is no guarantee that all of the 4*'s /5*s will pan out, willing to wait their turn or even stick with their non-binding decision.
MSU had Barrent and once back issues started he went from NFL body OL linemen to becoming a mechanical engineering student with a very high GPA who used to play football.
Lets all take a breath.
Rivals show Meyer at OSU with 4 recruits so far.
Enos was one of the biggest reasons we got Will Gholston. He was the primary recruiter for Norman, Sims, Gainer and Spencer in 2009, all of which were big recruits. Hoover and Fred Smith were big recruits too. He did a great job with in-state talent during his time here.
You're right, he isn't going to be a world-saver and UM would still be having a field day. But I firmly believe he would've snagged one or two of those guys that went to UM. Just my opinion.
OP said it very well. It's not just that we had good results, it's that Enos had a great vibe and youthful energy about him to connect with recruits.
The thing is, we're still recruiting Detroit, just not landing the kids anymore.
There also haven't been the recruits in Renaissance and Southeastern over the past couple years either. If all the kids are coming from Cass Tech, then it barely matters who we have recruiting them.
It also doesn't help that the MSU-friendly head coaches at these schools are no longer coaching there. Our whole Detroit recruiting network is broken. I really want to see us get Malik McDowell from the 2014 class, and there's enough time to make it happen by any means necessary.
$$$$$$$$$, Locksley is known for questionable recruiting tactics. Also, the expectations for Enos if he ever does comeback will be impossible to match. '09 was kind of a once in a decade thing with a lot of good Michigan recruits that leaned our way. Don't get me wrong, he deserves credit, but I don't think he would make thaaaaaaaat much of a difference here. He recruites Michigan, and I don't think he would have changed anyone's mind in this state about coming here. CT guys and Shane Morris and Shallman were all scUM. Elmer was all ND. Don't think we'd be any better off at this stage. Maybe we'd have closed arnett, zettel, valdez showers, or ojemudia.
We nabbed Ed Davis and Lawrence Thomas in 2011. There was no one else really in Detroit the past two seasons not from Cass Tech worth taking.Lets not start hand wringing over us missing out on no one, IMO.
I think there's a disconnect between people knowing we lost a bunch of recruits to UM and people realizing we're recruiting pretty well overall.
I AM KIND, SMART, POWERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, TERRIFIC, AND TREMENDOUS
Agreed, DE was the man to close on coach "D"'s staff. If he gets sacked in Mt. P, we need to get him back ASAP.
MSU is off to a great recruiting start.
Hopefully we will get to enjoy another Enos Tenure at MSU in about 5-10 years. This time as the head guy.
Sorry, do NOT want Enos as a head coach. He's proved nothing so far.
Nίκη για MSU
Not true according the fanboys. Why? Stars don't matter. Ah, they were lifelong M fans, so we never had a chance. ahhhmmm, we recruit nationally now. Ahhhhmmmm, fuck you tanfan!
Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.
