I still have no idea how that shot went in. It seemed to rattle around the rim/backboard FOREVER.
"Oh, What a Neit!"
game. MSU, has game.
Wisconsin UPSET 2007
We aren't a blueblood.
Correct. I was 9 at the time and I was there. The stadium was ruined the next year.
Well yeah. Dropping the field at Spartan Stadium about 10 feet is what killed storming the field. When the field was up at its regular height, you could walk right onto the it from the front row.
Anyone saying students shouldn't rush the floor when we beat a #1 in a situation like 2007 is trolling.
There are lots of examples of schools rushing the floor when they shouldn't have, but the 2007 MSU win over Wisconsin is definitely NOT one of them.
By far the loudest and most intense basketball game I've been too. I think I went deaf in my left ear for the rest of the day it was so loud. Absolutely amazing.
Calmer than you are
I used to be on the side that felt you shouldn't rush the court, but my opinion has changed from that. Rushing the court looks to be a blast for the college kids. Wish I would have rushed the court at some point in the past. Beating a #1, clinching a conference title, dramatic game winning shot........why wouldn't you rush the court if you were a student.
I would up-vote this thread every day of the week if it were possible.
LaSalle was a 2.5 point favorite. I'm not saying they shouldn't have, but I was shocked to see that.
Did not realize that, I just assumed they were underdogs. Maybe the rush wasn't justified...
MSU is an elite blueblood. I find it funny that people get their feelings hurt over this fact. You probably also get upset at calling the United States the best country on God's Green Earth.
Who cares that they were favored. They beat a top 10 for the first time in over 30 years. Why the hell wouldn't the students rush the court?
Too funny how people want to make some kind of flow chart for when to rush or not to rush.
I'm sorry, but if it is a big game (conference title winner, big tourney game) AND a close, hard fought game, there is no reason NOT to storm. It's fun and it shows the team how appreciative we are of their accomplishment. It is not bush league at all.
Love it. Loved that the Izzone decided to do it. Destroyed UM and won the conference, 100% awesome.
It'd be like if fans of the "Leaders and Best" stormed the field two years in a row after beating 6-6 teams. Oh, wait...
It all depends on where you are as a team and a program.
In 2007, we were a down (relatively speaking) and Wisconsin was #1. Justified.
If, hypothetically, Indiana is #1 when we beat them this year at the Bres, not justified.
If, hypothetically, UM is # 1 when we beat them this year the Bres, maybe justified because they're assholeness will be at a monumental level.
I thought Miami fans were justified in rushing after they beat us, and after the beat Duke. However, if the timetable of those two were reversed, it would be weak to rush after beating us, ranked in the teens with them ranked 25, after destroying #1 Duke earlier in the year. We were the biggest win in years for them, until they topped that last night.
Back around 92-93, we (the student section) rushed the field after EVERY football win, just for kicks, as there was so little to get excited about with MSU football...until we beat UM in 93 and had a real reason to rush the field. After that elation, it just didn't feel right to rush the field after beating just anybody. And, of course, in 94 rushing the field was no longer a realistic option with the lowering of the field.
I always wondered what it was like to be a 4-7 Purdue team and having the students of a 5-6 MSU team rush the field because they beat you.
storming the court against Michigan (unless clinching Big Ten title) gives michigan too much credit.
I was honored to have you guys storm the court against us.
Under no circumstances this year, where this program is relative to theirs do I want us storming the court against them.
Even if we win 200-0 and they're the unanimous #1 of the universe and just finished knocking off the Miami Heat 200-0 and a video emerges of Trey Burke and Hardaway banging literally every female MSU student and LAKS.
We should not ever rush the court against Michigan again, unless and this is even iffy, we clinch a championship after the game and frankly I'd hope we waited till they left the court first.

Wisconsin's epic reign as #1 HAD to come to an end sometime. The tyranny has lasted so long generations knew of no other team who had claimed that spot. It was a heroic effort by Neitzel to have slain you.
Granted, OSU had beat us by 1 or 2 earlier that week, so the bloom quickly came off that rose.
Neitzel...that effing guy got more crazy bounces...was happy to see him leave.
Hate to break it to some of you, but if Michigan enters the Breslin as the #1 ranked team, it's at least a 50/50 chance we storm the court should we win. If someone were to hit a buzzer-beater to beat them, I can almost guarantee you there will be a court-storming
I was there for all those games too. My dad was up from Virginia visiting for the UM game. When we rushed the field, someone yelled "GATOR" at midfield (ala "Animal House") and 100s/1000s of people dropped to the ground on their backs and "gator-ed." My Dad still mentions that as one of the most fun days of his life.
I hope we don't. We're #13 in the nation. Beating Michigan at home should be expected. Have a little class. Maybe it's because I went to school when we won the national championship. Or maybe it's because when I was at school we had a 53 game home winning streak. Call me old, call me arrogant. I'm not storming a court.
