Kelly's Message: Notre Dame Close to Title Caliber
"I think the world is run by C students"
If we had an even mediocre offense last year it probably would have been us getting throttled by 'bama.
Because we dont have the media in the backpocket nor the national brand ND has
Ouch, ooch, ow!!

Getting some Notre Dame calls wouldn't have hurt either.
I really hope we don't waste the defense again.
The answer is no. Notre Dame is the premier franchise in college football. Not the best program but the most famous and beloved college in the sport. In contrast MSU is a team that is most famous for tying that team 48 years ago.
You memory is flawed, nd tied MSU.
"Get there"? Get where? Into a national champ game and get absolutely annihilated? You could argue we were basically on that level for the cap1 bowl. ND hasnt gotten anywhere.
How about we beat ND. BK is 2-1 over MD. Our domination has slipped.
Their name recognition is way bigger than ours. We didn't have an assbag walk on and have a movie made about his so-called career either.

Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
ND has a ton of national championships, heisman winners, fans all over the country and their own network. Let's get to where Wisconsin has (Big Ten titles and Rose Bowls) first.
I'd be happy with the Rose Bowl. SEC is too dominant these days
Why not? Because even if we somehow went undefeated, we'd still have an extra game against a likely top 15 opponent on a neutral field.
That alone makes it much tougher.
ND's schedule prior to the beginning of the season was brutal. At the end of the season it looked mediocre. I guess MSU should have a legitimate chance of playing for a NC next year, except that their schedule looks mediocre from the beginning and it's damn near impossible to change that perception by the end of the season without the media on your side.
Biggest issue is recruiting. We aren't going to out recruit ND, SCum, O$U, P$U. We had our best two seasons since 1966 in 2010-11 and still had a national recruiting ranking in the 30's the following year.
As Spartans, we want to think that MSU is still...and will always be...a football school. Nationally, however, it isn't. It's viewed as a basketball school and has been for years now. We may not agree with it...or like it...but it's the reality of the situation.
A previous poster got it right. We need to get to Wisconsin level and the Rose Bowl before thinking about realistically being a NC contender.
Elite status doesn't just happen because of two outstanding seasons since 1966. See SCum basketball the past 2 years to fully understand this. They are going to have a reality check themselves with this in 2013-14.

"I love March!" - Tom Izzo
Well, we best get a huge boost in subscriptions if we have a hope to best the recruiting rankings.
Every team you listed sans OSU has a ways to go to accomplish what Wisconsin has in the last decade or so, so, sure, MSU needs to get to a Wisc level, as does M, PSU and ND.
To a degree, MSU is at Wisconsin level - they have an identity, and a program. Right now MSU is pretty stable.
Trouble was, last year MSU's offense was turrible. I would liken it to a POS lawn mower trying to mow thick, wet grass. Have you ever tried that? You go about 2 feet, and the lawn mower goes "Brrrrrr - ugh..." and stalls.
Last year, the MSU offense takes the field, goes a few yards, and goes "Brrrrrr - Ugh!...." and stalls. It was like Groundhog Day. "Brrrrrr - Ugh"... "Brrrrrr-Ugh"... "Brrrrr - Ugh"
ND has been college football royalty ever since Rockne started scheduling games on both coasts. MSU needed ND on their schedule to gain its membership into the Big Ten. ND has had every game broadcast on a national network ever since NBC cut a deal with them.
It's still the SEC and everyone else and it's only only a handful of SEC teams that make it the power conference. ND had no interest in joining the Big Ten and would have turned down SEC overtures for the same reasons. If they have to join a conference it will be the ACC because it will give ND the best shot of making the mega conference championship game.
Maybe Larry, but every year they all out recruit us, and the media kisses all their asses no matter what, and then waits for us to fail (see last season) so they can devalue MD's accomplishments and overall program. Even Wisconsin gets more love nationally than we do. Going to Rose Bowls...even if you can't win them...apparently makes a big national impression on the talking heads.
I thought we were talking about competing not popularity and publicity.
Quick count, Wisconsin has been to 6 of that last 17 Rose Bowls that involved B1G teams (a couple were the NC games that I left out), M 4, OSU 2 and PSU 2.
Now OSU missed a couple playing for the NC, so obviously they are a cut above Wisc still.
Hence, my comment of M and the other recruiting warriors also having work to do to get to Wisconsin's level. M hasn't won as much as a division crown since '04.
We'll never have our ass kissed like ND. MD himself said he thought we had arrived.....but not so much. Best league record over KMart's years was great, need to keep it up.
Need to keep it up. That's what SHE said!
Seriously? You don't see the difference between our programs or history?
"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." - Mark Dantonio.
I hate ND, but they get much more media pub than us. We aren't them, and probably never will.

Yeah I meant consistently. They have pretty much been there for 20 years now.
