Anyone know someone who got into this place?
Here's a great article on the Gang Lu massacre that happened on the Iowa campus in '91. The following morning, Saint Hayden Fry took his boys to Columbus, and they wore all-black helmets. Hawks beat the Buckeyes, fwiw, finishing 10-1.
I think few people could've written so eloquently about this tragedy unless they were graduates of the nearby workshop.

"losing Caleb Benenoch is a blow that Dantonio will never recover from. Izzo has lost it as well. Hoke and Beilein own the state."
please. just. fucking. go. away.
I would never live in a place that sucks for 20 years, and continue to live there like Bloom does.
That's why I got out of Michigan.
Rogue and I just come from different perspectives.
He'd rather cheer on and live vicariously through 18 year old jocks. This is of paramount importance to him, and I respect that. Michigan State winning a basketball game probably makes or breaks a day for him. Trash talking UM trolls is another.
I'd rather cheer on a real timeless contribution to the world of letters and thought, like the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
If this were actually true, you'd post this information on an Iowa-centric message board and not here.
"The RCMB on 247 is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet."
No. You troll the board with bits of irrelevant crap about an irrelevant state, fball program, player, or coach. Nothing that happens in Iowa or to Iowa is of any consequence to anyone but those unfortunate few who are either stuck there or had the misfortune of going to school there. You've got a chair throwing nobody as bball coach and a kidney killing douche as the headman in fball. Focus on being better than the Iowa state in anything before you worry about what MSU fans think. You'll spare yourself the trouble of creating yet another username Dixie-Chicagoan-howler-optiking.
Iowa's a beautiful, serene, progressive place with rolling hills and honest people, and a soil that is the envy of the world. Feeding the world is hardly irrelevance.
Ooohhh soil.... Please do tell us more!
Sure, for further reading, check out Nikita Khrushchev's visit to the Garst farm. Height of the Cold War too.
Coon Rapids, Iowa, was crawling with spies.
Awesome!! Forget spies, the Berlin air drop, the candy bombers, the soviet invasion of Afghanistan, or Vietnam. I want to know Lavrenty Beria's taste in vegetation.
It was great writing. But Iowa is the most boring state I've ever had the misfortune of visiting.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
Let's go SOY-YUL! (clap clap clapclapclap)

Sometimes the "soil" gets overworked and vital nutrients are lost and require emergency infusions of minerals and manure. The farmer gets off scot free of course for his gross negligence, but some of that "soil" will never be the same.
I enjoyed the article especially in light of having seen the film, " Dark Matter," that is loosely based on the same story but is told more from the point of view of the shooter and is less sympathetic to the victims. However, in out lives of quiet desperation we cling to whatever illusion we can to divert ourselves from the inevitable randomness of it all. I am glad you have found the Iowa Writers Workshop to give shape to your existence, but you reveal your fundamental and absurd arrogance when you try to selfishly elevate the Workshop above Spartan basketball.
I once soiled my pants, and it had corn in it. I am going to Iowa to write a creative story about it. It will be at the top of the Des Moines Register book list.
Oooh, intellectual burn!
Howler is still a douchebag after all these years.
Tyler freaking Durden. Only howler can bring him round.
Tyler must be a Rivals poster. For I have been The Howler since 2001.
Glad you and Gob read the article and I'll have to go check out "Dark Matter."
It's a fascinating story. I even heard that James van Allen was a few stories above where Gang Lu went on his shooting spree. You'd almost think there would be more Ph.D students coming unhinged, given the intellectual arrogance and pride so many graduate students have about their work. (Especially when their advisors' job is to knock them down a peg or two)

Funniest thing I've read today.
