Reality? The fact they had like double digit block shots and Nix is a not a leaper at all?
His shots are pretty blockable when he doesn't just flail low percentage stuff up there.
If he gets his ass into guys and his feet right it's pretty much over for the 'lead' defender but you need to worry about the blocks from the help defenders.
What Nix will do is pass to the guy WAS covered by the help and get him a bunny. Hopefully Dawson doesn't miss that bunny.
Marriage is like flying with kids, if the flight had 500 connections, never ended, Ted Striker were your pilot and you ate the fish.
He has the ups of Adam Ballinger.....Coincidentally, I think both of them dunked a total of one time.
This is fact.
Nix is extremely nimble and graceful for a man of that size. He is not explosive or 'athletic'.
All of their guys are fast and can jump, but they're small. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few highlight dunks from them tomorrow. We should own the boards and post though and win.
I think you might see highlight dunks from both teams. I wouldn't be surprised to see Dawson and Payne challenge their athleticism
If Memphis wants respect beat very good teams... simple as that. If memory serves I believe some people have pointed out they haven't beaten a ranked team in three or four years at least. I will say that when they do play better competition the games are usually fairly competitive, but being close and winning are two different things. To me it boils down to playing team defense, if you force Memphis to play more half court and run their sets they are not nearly as effective. I just think all things considered in front of a pro-MSU crowd with Izzo as the coach and the inside-outside talent MSU will put on the court, I think MSU wins by around 8 to 10 points. It will also be interesting to see especially in the 2nd half if either team gets a little bit tired, both teams consistently play seven guys occasionally eight for MSU depending on Costello. Being the second game within three days with somewhat short rosters the last few minutes could be a grind fest.
What the hell does that even mean? All college players are athletic. Even Nix.
Vim -- noun: robust energy and enthusiasm : VITALITY
Memphis is that team you play at the local Y...a bunch of guys you remebered from HS that were athletic and lean as hell. They can all jump out of the gym and they also don't understand the fundamentals of the game.
The 2 guys that do seem to understand the game are Jackson and Thomas and the other one's just get by because they are great athletes.
The biggest issue will be how we respond to Nix not getting a double team and how he responds if the game is physical and the officials swallow their whistle. KA has a hell of a challenge in front of him as this the type of guard that gives him trouble. I also wonder how much high screen they do with NIx because the memphis bigs dont seem to slip to the basket after the screen.
Rebound and stay out of foul trouble and I think the rest will take care of itself.
Well they are certainly are not more athletic than Valpo.
"Athletic" in bball lingo usually just means can run fast or jump high, or both.
They are the most athletic team
Are they really that good down low? Yeah they may be shot blockers but cant we beat them up down low like we did to scum earlier in the year or Nix having a game like he did vs Valpo?
To die in ann arbor is redundant
Awesome, one breakaway dunk.. the next Jordan...
Memphis players have to be athletic because their jobs after school are at FedEx. You have to deliver stuff fast to keep the customers happy.

But that doesn't mean they won't block a bunch of shots. Or that blocking a bunch of shots means you played good D. It's up to Dawson and Payne and Nix to not get psyched out by the "bigger dick game" and get intimidated and get out of the comfort zones. Really don't care if Nix gets every fourth shot blocked if he's going strong, drawing fouls and kicking out to the right guy if the double comes.
I really doubt he'll go for a 25 and 15 type game like vs Valpo.
God what pieces of shit... wont even go to UPS and join the union. I hate Memphis!
I bet they will collapse on Nix and Payne hard whenever they touch the ball down low much like Valpo, Memphis does have guys who can jump and block shots though unlike Valpo.. We have to continue to make the wide open kick out 3s that have been going down.
The game is won on defense though and when the guys are going 100% I don't see anyone they can't stop right now.
Memphis, as a team, is probably faster than us and probably jumps a little higher than us (again, talking team averages here). But it's a matter of degrees. It's not like we're Davidson. And it's not like they have Derrick Rose on this team.
If we play our game and make only an average number of dumb mistakes, we win decisively, because while they may have the athleticism edge, we have the edge most everywhere else.
Yeah I think going against a plump goofy ass white dude from the Netherlands had as much to do with that 15 boards and Derrick did.
The athletic guys are typically black.
more athletic? Yes. Better coached? Hell no. That will win almost every time.

Izzo thinks they're more athletic than anyone in the B1G.
