Seriously, everywhere I fucking go you see people staring down at their cellphones. In the car, driving, walking down the street, almost any time there is just a 30 second window of "vacant time" or whatever, people instinctively pull out their phones and either start texting or reading someone online. Have we reached the point of no return?

I refuse to get one. I don't want people having the ability to get an email to me at any time of the day.

No, service still isn't the best everywhere for society to be completely dependent on mobile technology. We need nationwide wireless Internet or better U.S. mobile carriers.

Growing up the phone used to be something that was attached to our kitchen wall. When it rang you had to go through a few rooms to answer it. During whatever popular tv show was on we would all get annoyed when someone would call. Sometimes you took the thing off the hook just to get some peace.

I remember having to do that at MSU (last 4-5 digits, can't remember). Do they still do that on campus?
if they are taking away alumni emails you can bet phones are long gone
When I lived in the dorms from fall 09 till spring 11 there were phone jacks in every room with a number written on it. I never knew one person who actually hooked up a land line in their dorm. It could be possible that they no longer worked at that point in time.
I really only use mine to play angry turds when I crap.
The university might have to keep the land lines for emergency/911 purposes. If you don't hook up the phone, they can say it's on you and eliminate any potential liability.
