Why the hell call that timeout at the end? Valentine and Harris had a 2-on-1 on LeVert, and Izzo calls the timeout and a crappy play out of it. Keeps happening over and over again at the end of both halves.
Agree on that last play...Totally garbage

Just said the same thing to my wife. We got the rebound off the missed FT and had a run out to win and Izzo fks it up with the TO. It's like he doesn't trust his players to make the play.
The first time MSU basketball aired in France the French surrendered to Tom Izzo just to be safe.
then he doesn't use them when the other team goes on runs. Don't get it.
It happens all the time though, usually at the end of the first half. And the play almost never works.
Why not just let the guys play? 4 of the 5 UM players were focused on Payne, and Valentine and Harris were gonna go 2-on-1 with LeVert with 5 seconds left.
yup. coaches the swagger out of these kids.
See Maryland game for what happens when you don't call timeout and let your players make a play to win the game
At the end of halves and end of games. Totally bad coaching by Izzo today.
And Izzo was calling a timeout on that play, but the refs didn't see it. If he had called it, instead of Korie's shot we probably would've gotten a turnover off a timeout.
yeah, you experts are right...he's shown time and AGAIN he just doesn't know WTF he's doing....+1.........fucking ass clowns
In his defense, he was probably frantically asking for a TO the entire time Payne was dribbling up the court.
Yup... Izzo is an all-time great, no doubt about it. However, his use of TOs is questionable at best.
I thought of that Maryland game as well. Izzo is one to look for a set-play over something coming from the flow of the game in that situation. Not my preference, but I also acknowledge he knows more about basketball than I do. Regardless, there didn't seem to be much of a plan, or a willingness to take the shot, after the time-out. That's a bigger issue.......

Tom Izzo did blow it, STUPID TO for sure.
Let's use facts here.
He wasn't calling for a timeout against Maryland.
He began the motion, then thought better about it; and didn't call it.
Watch the replay.
Dominating Press Conferences Since 2007
I agree at the end of the game there. I really questioned that when it happened and it wasn't in hindsight. 5 seconds is not enough time to set something up barring a total mistake by Michigan.
I think he called a timeout because Payne was awkwardly bringing the ball up court. If you let that play out and we don't get a bucket, or we turn it over, everyone would be ragging on Izzo for not using the timeout.
Today is what happens when he does call timeout. When he doesnt this happens.....

I love Izzo, but his plays out of timeouts have been a problem since like 2006, especially at the end of halves. I would love to see the stats on our plays out of TO's... it can't be pretty. We rarely score when we call that stupid TO with 15 seconds left in the first half. Sometimes it worked when Kalin was here because he could beat pretty much anyone 1-on-1, but we still didn't convert a very high percentage of those plays.
Sometimes you just have to let the kids play. I don't know how you can't see this one was a mistake. 4 players are focused on Payne, while LeVert is guarding both Valentine and Harris by the 3 point line. We had an easy transition basket for the win.
Sometimes you make mistakes and over-coach. We all love Izzo and know he's a great coach but today he made some mistakes. If we win, nobody talks about it, but we lost so let the 2nd guessing begin.
I think Izzo would have let it play out if Appling had the ball in his hands instead of Payne.
Not to mention putting in Gauna at the end of the first half as opposed to Costello.
Yeah, I think if Appling had the ball,, maybe he doesn't call a TO. He may of been worried with Payne dribbling the ball up court.
Yep. His two time out let directly to -2 points. Awful. Especially after missed free throw. We had them in transition.
Did you see Valentine and Harris down the court though? There's no way in hell LeVert stops them, and they were all right in front of Izzo. Sometimes you just have to trust your players to make a play, especially in a situation like that. If there were 10 seconds left, that's a different story, but 5 seconds is not enough time to call a very good play unless there's a complete defensive breakdown.
