Jabari to ChiTribune: "Just a commitment. It's not like I'm signing. It still gives me room to make plans in case anything goes otherwise."

...so does this mean we'll have to wait another few months in case "anything goes otherwise," or is this pretty standard?
Forgive me, this is my first time really following recruiting and I don't want to get my heart broken if he picks MSU but changes his mind.

This hype is getting ridiculous.
I'm at the point where I'll be happy when it's all over.
Were you not around for some others:
I might be over-thinking this but...... this actually seems like a good sign for us. Because between Duke and MSU, we're the school who could have things go otherwise. If he was leaning toward Duke you'd think he wouldn't have second thoughts because of how good they are doing.
Thankfully if it is MSU, Izzo knows how to get his shit together when it matters.
Tough love is in effect here|We won't accept you as you are|Instead, we will show you a vision of what you could be and help you achieve it
What if Coach K announces he is retiring after this year?
The early signing period is over, he couldn't sign with a team even if he wanted to.
I guess we don't know what's in the mind of Jabari - that could also be what he is thinking of. He's a really smart young guy, so it's tough to determine whatever he's thinking - it could be both or none of these things. I just interpreted in a way that first came to mind.
If it weren't for Spartan Football, I would choose Duke. However, you cannot recreate Fall in East Lansing. That atmosphere will never exist on Duke's campus.
I have followed his recruitment decently, but I'm curious - based on the kind of guy Jabari is, would Spartan Football really make a difference? It's a time of year which is dear to my heart, but I don't know if basketball recruits can say the same.

He can sign with any of the schools he has offers from in April. He can't sign before then because the early signing period is closed. 12/20 is basically a verbal commitment.
He is just saying it gives him some flexibility just in case something crazy were to happen...I wouldn't worry about it. Who ever he chooses next week will have his signature on the dotted line come signing day.
Duke's campus is pretty run of the mill and Durham is a dump.
Not to mention Durham is a shithole.
Are you sure you're familiar with Duke 's campus?
LOL! Funny that you mentioned the campus. It is as if you were around when Isiah Thomas was giving Jabari advice on which school to choose.
This is true. I have been there. You all changed my mind. North Carolina is an incredible state, but Durham sucks. MSU is easily as talented and as likely to win a N.C. as Duke. B1G is the best BBall conference right now.
Comments like that are why I stopped following recruiting closely. It's all BS until they sign, and even then, none of it means shit unless they can actually live up to the hype.
I thank Caleb Benenoch ("My word is as strong as an oak" ) for helping me to not GAF about what these guys say or do. It saves lots of time and frustration.
If we comes to East Lansing, great. I won't assume he is until he signs a LOI.
