He did actually mention MSU - specifically talked about the win Tuesday.
Spot on, old chap
i only care about spartans --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqsAJQc-NCY
I believe what he said was something like, "Michigan, even though they lost to MSU. They (Michigan) are just a really good team."
Agreed, but I honestly don't give a F*** what the talking heads think, but if all things being equal and scUM gets a higher seed 'cuz of their hype I'll be beyond pissed.
I didn't know that the selection committee bought into hype. They will choose an MSU team that is on the bubble over some other team at times. That being said, I think that MSU and UM are 5 and 6 with the RPI, which the selection committee does pay attention to. The 2 #1 seeds from the B1G will most likely be IU and then whatever team wins/makes the final of the BTT. If UM makes it to the final game, and IU and MSU get knocked out, they will most likely get the other #1.
If MSU wins out and wins 1 game in the BTT, there will be a very good case to make them #1, but we can't lose to Minny or Illini, let alone anyone lower than them in the B1G.
All of this is meaningless anyway, March is about matchups.
Now knowing what 1995 is like all over again! Thank you 247 technology!!
Anyone, ANYONE who doesn't entertain at least some doubts about UM after Tuesday's game has lost at least some of my respect as an analysis - so many weaknesses were revealed. The media loves a good resurrection story and they aren't going to give up this UM-is-back story easily.
Who cares? After Tuesday, everyone knows where we stand. This team thrives off disrespect anyway, keep it coming.
I know not all people are, but I'm afraid too many people are buying into the whole "best game we've played in 3 years" with the "worst game we've played all year" bit that the coaches are throwing out. We didn't get lucky. It wasn't a fluke. We made that happen.
I love it, embrace the doubt fellas
I hope they talk shit about us all the way through the tourney.
The team has some attitude this year (nix, dawson, app, etc).
Let the media talk their shit, it seems to fire the boys up. That game on tuesday was a woodshed stopping. Don't think for a second that um being favored and picked by many of the talking heads to win, didn't fire up the team.
This team is like a rabid wounded animal. If they can get healthy by march... Watch out.
The thing is, not very many teams have the front court that we do, nor can most teams play the inside out game that we do (which is probably the best in the nation right now).
However, I'm sure every single opponent that UM faces the rest of the year will be seeing a heavy dose of film from our game. Izzo completely outcoached Beilein, and we beat them in every phase of the game by a wide margin.
FTR, I think Izzo was just being humble in saying that we played our best game in 3 years. We were shorthanded, 2 of our top 3 scorers struggled offensively, we missed tons of free throws, etc. Not to mention the minutes that we gave to the bench.
I love you bob.
"If you're worried about Wolverine fans, just move to Pasadena. You'll never have to deal with 'em."
Yep, and that's part of the brilliance of Izzo, he totally played it down and fed the media that quote and nothing else. And people seem to be forgetting we did that without our backup PG.
Let's keep flying under the radar (as a top 10 team).
The media should know by now that Izzo isn't going to gloat no matter how much MSU wins by even if it's the main rival of the program or not,
Izzo is pure class and always will be but he knows the reason why his team won so easily is because they shut them down defensively and made everything scUM got as hard as possible hence they played their worst game. The media can run with it and think what they want as long as the selection committee uses the game as part of the criteria for seeding both MSU and Michigan fairly.
The selection committee is not stupid and will use the game to put MSU in a position to be a top seed if it keeps winning games.
I get why fans and media are high on Michigan. They're athletic, they're fast, they can shoot, and they play an "exciting" brand of basketball. But I'm surprised that a smart basketball guy like Jay Bilas would view them as a Final Four team. Would I be shocked if they got there? No, but I just don't think they're a smart pick. To me you have to have balance and I think the four best teams right now are, in no particular order: Indiana, Miami, MSU and Duke. What do all these teams have in common? They can all play the high/low game. They all have good bigs you can dump it down to who can go to work, or kick it out and find the open shooter. These are the kind of teams you want to bet on in the tournament, because if the opposition forces them to play a certain style of game, they can adjust. If Michigan gets thrown off their game plan like they did vs Wisky and MSU, then they are going to need to rely on Burke to have a crazy individual game...which he is capable of, granted. In addition to that, Michigan just doesn't defend with the type of physicality that you want out of a Final Four team. MSU's physical style has always benefited them in the tourney because the refs tend to let more stuff go. To me, Michigan is just a little too one dimensional, and outside of Burke, they don't have anyone who really scares you.
"RCMB: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainry." - some dude from MgoBlog
There's a point to this. The night we smoked them, ESPN barely mentioned it. I had to wait through two reports on a dog show, Michael's 50th birthday (probably three times), and multiple reports of Noel's knee before a 45 second "story" on the UM/MSU game.
Michigan is going to have trouble against any team that has a strong inside game and can defend the 3 and pick and roll. If we can beat them by 23 a lot of teams can beat.them by 3 or 4 points.
Yes, I noticed this too.
And I get five down-votes for saying that Bilas wrongly named Michigan as a FF team? WTF? Only on the RCMB. Bunch of fucking contrarians.
It takes some extreme mental gymnastics to make one's self believe that MSU basketball is "disrespected" in any way, shape or form by national media. I'm impressed.
Funny how the opposite is true regarding the local media. Is there any school in the country that gets less respect locally than nationally? Is there a "Carolina Blue Wall" down in the triangle against Duke? A "Trojan horse" against UCLA in L.A.?

I'd say that saying MSU basketball is disrespected locally also requires some sort of mental gymnastics, but I didn't want to go there.
Duke is overwhelmingly less popular in North Carolina than UNC. By huge margins. Largely a function of enormous state school vs small private school.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
It is well respected by CBS and Fox and all other networks not named ESPN. Those dorks are all about pandering to the masses and they do not want to rial up UM fans. That was obvious Tuesday night with their ho-hum review and story about our game. Hell, they didn't even promote it on Monday night..it was on their own focking network! That, i found strange..
Then on Tuesday night, after thier biggest marquie matchup of the night, they hardly said a peep about it. It was their 4th or 5th story and they sure as hell didn't talk about it in the rah rah fashion that they hyped and followed the UM OSU game just a week earlier. I find it interesting and predictable, that is all..
Again, it's a strange ESPN thing despite guys like Katz and Bilas always loving on MSU
There is romance in all of us
