You can certainly give the Wings credit for having a limit of financial prudence, but this team badly needs a talent upgrade, and its next generation of stars. Hank, Mule and Pav aren't getting any younger, and it doesn't seem like the stars are coming from inside the organization.
In the past, when the Wings got great production from grind lines of guys they had produced, they also had HoF-caliber talent on the top two lines so those home-grown players had advantageous match-ups. That talent included a lot of guys they didn't produce: Shanny, Luc, Hull, etc. They're not able to spend like they used to, but they still need to spend what they can. Last year's free agent whiff was costly, as there doesn't appear to be much FA help available this offseason.
Also, don't forget that Parise and Suter would've had less of a burden and would've been less targeted by opposing teams in Detroit.

I was at the game last night, it was far from Howard's fault they lost. Pathetic showing from the team last night.
The Wings didn't look that bad in the first, notwithstanding all the power play time they had. But the 2nd and 3rd weren't brutal.
Eh? Ericsson, Kindl and Lashoff all have plenty of size. Kronwall and Dekeyser lack size but play big. Our problem is secondary scoring. Datsyuk hasn't really been showing up they way he needs to thus far into the series

Are you kidding me? They were awful. The Ducks outhustled them the entire game and their PPs were embarrassing to watch. One PP they struggled to even get the puck into the Ducks' zone. The Wings looked like the tired West Coast team that didn't want to be there.
Sorry, that should have been "were brutal". My bad.
So was that goal on Jimmy or was it the D's fault?
December 3, 2011 - Forever haunted by what I witnessed...
End of second period, Ducks still lead Wings 1-0. Wings have 27-15 edge in shots. Wings scoreless streak at 100 minutes (5 full periods).

Thank you, Denicos.
I bought some batteries, but they weren't included... so I had to buy them again. What do batteries run on?
Terrible luck for Jimmy Howard, as Lashoff runs into him on the Ducks' goal.

His rebound control might be the worst in the league
Has anyone else concluded OP is a Ross/Steve schtick?
Oh shut up. You're wrong, get over it.
Yeah keep telling yourself that. If not for the fragging by Lashoff, that would've been considered a legendary performance by Howard.
I'll bump it again after we win in Anaheim
Should we bump all your "Ryan Raburn is the next Ted Williams" threads?
Should we bump your "Jim Miller is an idiot" thread or any of your other whiny piss and moan posts?
BTW, Raburn's hitting .358 with 4 HR and a .986 OPS right now in the Big Leagues. How are Berry, Santiago, Kelly and the host of other scrubs we have performing so far?

You do realize most of his "legendary" saves were 2nd and 3rd chances created because he's unable to control his rebounds right?
Did he get the job done or not? 2-2 series, still very much in it. If Abdelkader's dumbass didn't plow through the Duck Player for no reason there's no way Howard gives up four goals that game.
I was at the game last night.
For sure, he wasn't handling the rebounds well enough. Luckily he didn't get burned because of it. That said, he still had a strong performance with timely big time saves.
