I am blown away by this kid. He is the real deal. He plays a lot like Magic did. Great court awareness and rare passing ability. The more minutes he plays, the more I like our chances. He is not yet much of a shooter, but as a playmaker, he is incredible.
Dawson lately does very little out there on offense. Payne is great. Nix is pretty good. Appling is nothing but a ball handler at this point so if Trice/Valentine/Nix (joke based on his coast to coast drive last game) handle the rock, we'll be fine. Harris is doing great.
We have to hit shots and pound the boards to have a chance this game. I believe Valentine is worth 6-10 points difference because of the plays he makes as a passer.
PS It doesn't help any stereotypes when we send in the end of our bench at the end of the game and they are not only all white but also not athletic or seemingly good at basketball.
He is gonna have to hit his open looks when if we want to beat Duke.

I believe even Nucky has reached new lows by comparing Valentine to Magic.
I think it was Izzo himself who originally threw around a comparison between Valentine and Magic. However, Izzo referred only to Valentine's passing.
Team was better when trice wasn't seeing the floor.
Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.
Have to hit open shots and rebound... Riveting analysis for MSU to succeed.
The key to beating Duke is a freshman guard/SF, who comes off the bench, and who averaged 5 points a game over the season?
Hey, I like Valentine's game, but the key player performances versus Duke are Appling, Nix, Harris, and Payne - in that order.
Did you mean to leave out Dawson? To me he is the x-factor that needs to play well and not necessarily in scoring.
Izzo = Nucky??
Did we not just beat Memphis by 22?
Are you not entertained?
Team is better when trice is not on the floor. Read the game thread and all the mistakes he made and turn overs.
Valentine not only makes the pass, he makes the pass before the pass. He is a passing highlight waiting to happen at all times on offense. And he's is a glass eater. Must improve his shot, though. Plus, he dribbles too much and tries to force things sometimes, but, man... he can play the game on an intuitive level like no one else on the team. Just wait until he matures and minimizes the goofy plays!
More down votes boners.
I love valentine.
You're basing this on reading the game thread ?! Trice is a solid back-up point guard that is very important to this team. One of the reasons Appling to so worn down and beat up is that Trice was hurt.
Valentine hasn't hit a jumper for a long time and he has had the wide open looks. Even so his play of late has helped us win. If he hits a few 3's then he becomes the difference maker you describe. I love it when he snares a tough rebound and heads up court instantly surveying the possibilities.
Disagree that the team is better without Trice. He's a very valuable back-up. Sure, Trice is still a little inconsistent, but I think by next season, once he gets healthy, he is going to be a valuable piece in the team's leadership. I think some of the inconsistency has to do with his two concussions this season. The kid is tough as nails and with another Summer of strength training, he is going to prove a lot haters wrong.
Valentine is an exciting player. Really love his game. The biggest surprise to me, though, isn't his passing as much as his rebounding--especially for a Freshmen. He has a real knack for being in the right place to rebound a bad shot. In the future, Valentine is going to be a Double-Double machine.
What's wrong with liking both players? Both have their strengths and both, at this time, have their weaknesses. Folks gotta remember that they are both pretty young players.

You have to admit, Nucky does a great job with this crap

Highly disagree that Appling "is nothing but a ball handler".
How was any of this necessary to type?
Your whole analysis is dubious at best but then you tack this on at the end just to sound like a douchebag. I don't get it.
Valentine is going to be a beast and is a solid contributor but no way dude is X factor this weekend, he has yet to be in a single game outside of maybe Oakland. Dawson remains the X factor for this team that when he goes for 10 and 10 we play with anyone. But when Appling and Harris are hitting shots we don't lose to anyone - there's your key to beating Duke, make open looks.
Agree with Jack as well on Trice .... a 1-1 assist-turnover ratio would be a nice change for him this tournament
he is the best puppeteer on here. He can get these misfit boners going better than I or you ever could
