I'd take this guy
The Detroit Lions have several needs on defense and ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. believes Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones makes the most sense.
Disagree. Undersized, not a versatile LB, not big enough to be a DE.
I'd take one of Moore, Joeckel, or Milliner. In all honesty i'd rather trade down for more picks. Lions need an overhaul.
That guy wasn't even cleared to play at USC until he got some home town UGA doctors to clear him.
IMO he's the 2nd best defensive player in the country this year, but he's one mild hit away from being out of football forever, think Peyton Manning.
Big upside, big risk.
Oh, and you can run right at him as Bama proved in the SEC championship game.
I'm weary of Jones because of his neck issues.
It's one thing to have healed neck issues if you're a quarterback like Peyton Manning and rarely encounter physical contact. It's another if you're a linebacker whose job is to annihilate players through hitting.
He has Dee Milliner going one pick before Detroit. I thought the consensus was that Milliner was a reach even at for the fifth pick, but that Detroit might feel the need to take him because their secondary has been such a cluster,uh,cuddle (notice the self-censorship).

I'd rather have any of the following:
CB - Milliner
DE - Moore
DE - Werner
T - Joeckel (if by some miracle he's sitting at #5)
Trade down for 2 mid-late first round picks if you can manage that, and pick up Barrett Jones and Alec Ogletree. Maybe Matt Elam or Sam Montgomery.
I would also add
DE - Mingo
G - Warmack
The Lions badly need speedy LB's who can make plays but the neck issue is a red flag to me especially considering the Lions history in this regard.
Imo Alec Ogletree out of UGA is the better LB. Kevin Minter from LSU is damn good too.
Love Warmack and I would like to see the Lions take either him or Travis Frederick in the 2nd.
What about Barrett Jones in the 2nd? Could replace Rioala (sp?) at center and move him over to guard to replace Peterman.
If he's there, sure. Jones can play any spot on the OL. Reiff can too, so the versatility is useful.
Exactly. Can the Lions please just get someone without baggage? No injuries, no arrests, etc. None of these things have worked out well. Detroit would be far better off taking a safe player; they are not in a position to take a risk on a player with upside.
If we can trick Coach Krzyzewski into saying his own name backwards, perhaps he will be pushed back to the fifth dimension
Lions keep getting burned by guys who have injury problems...keep drafting them.
I bet they select a WR who has had 16 knee surgeries first round this year.
Sounds like a lot of guys with (injury) concerns up at the top.... sounds like a good year to trade down and start really rebuilding your team with plenty of young talent.
I want Werner.
Raiola is too small to play guard.
I honestly would love to see them pick up Warmack in the first and Barrett Jones in the second. Replace Peterman and Raiola. Warmack is the best road grader in the draft. Barret Jones could play nearly any spot, but I could easily see him playing center. If we want to improve our run game and give Calvin a chance not to always be double/tripled, we need to upgrade the O line.
Joeckel would be a dream pick if he somehow dropped, but i don't see that happening.

If any team knowingly drafts a first round player with spinal stenosis it would be Detroit. This is a common condition for senior citizens, not a 22 year old kid. There's no way the doctors at the combine clear him.
Milliner or Werner. one or both will be there at the 5th pick and they shouldn't even consider anyone else. Milliner is going to be a STUD.
I know DB is a big need, but I'd love to see OL-OL in #1/#2 and set the line to be one of the best in the league a few years from now.
Not a bad idea. The DB class this year is not great, honestly. Maybe 2 first round corners, 1 safety? (Milliner, Banks, Elam)
The line is pretty well set right now:
LT (Reiff) LG (Sims) C (Nagy) RG (That guy who isn't Peterman, I forget) RT (Cherilus or Fox)
Bench: Hilliard (T/G/C), Raiola (C), Cherilus or Fox.
Needs are at safety (one or two), LB (assuming either Levy or Durant doesn't re-sign), CB (as always; Houston is the best, is a UFA who won't be tagged), and WR (thanks for nothing, Titus; heal up, Nate & Ryan). A sneaky need is DE (Avril UFA, won't be tagged, may or may not sign w/Detroit; Willie Young fell on his face this year when given additional PT; LoJack is a UFA; and KVB, while exemplary on the practice field, is too damned old to do this much longer). DT is pretty well stocked, since the Lions were "fools" enough to pick Fairley when he fell to #13.
Thank you, Denicos.
If they take Jones I'm done with the team. Milliner is better. So is Moore, Joeckel (prob #1 pick), Werner, etc.
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
