Is uofm considered an "elite" bball program? Because of COURSE espn thinks so on their front page of bball. But seriously have they done anything at all to deserve that dick sucking?
Also it's fucking retarted that we play Miami for the challenge.
bball is much more fluid that football. In Bball if you get a couple great players you are right in the thick of the hunt. What makes an elite program? Probably the ability to recruit at a top 10 level for a couple years. Its not rocket science. Its much more difficult to atain elite status in football than it is in Bball. But its much more up and down in Bball. Is UM elite now? Probably yes based on the talent they have acquired over the last couple years and the facility upgrades.
But the B1G probably has at least 5 elite programs now. MSU, OSU, IU, UM and Wisc. What does it matter though in a landscape where football is king. Having a great Bball program is nice but its not the same as having a top 5 football program.
You have to make it out of the first weekend of the tournament more than once since 1994 to be considered elite.

I disagree with all of this. Just because a team has a nice building and decent players (how the fuck anyone can consider their roster Elite is retarted) does not mean they should get the Elite title. This takes decades of building a program.
Bruce Pearl says they are on their way.
Sports are about rank and order. We saw it with the Major League Baseball awards that came out this week, we see it with all the teams bunched atop th
Jebus. We debate amongst ourselves all the time if we are even considered elite. If we're having that conversation, they certainly do not fit the bill.
In no way, shape, or form are they an elite program. They just one their first CONFERENCE title in 26 years.
Well, we have some of the most self-loathing fans in all of sports. Their fans literally do not know the meaning of words that big.
They have been past the first round of the tournament maybe once in the last 15 years? Sounds more like a pile of shit than elite...
Exactly yet they are constantly blown way out of proportion including tonight on espn. I don't mind if they say they are good or whatever just always ALWAYS have to take it to the next level with anything uofm. Sick of the constant brainwashing these national outlets do.
Nίκη για MSU
This. Wisky isn't elite either. Above average? Yes (Wisky) but not elite.

Totally agree. You have to consistently be in the mix for conference AND national honors to be considered an elite program.
One Big Ten title since 1986 does not make one elite. Like others have said, they have not been to the sweet 16 in quite some time. "Elite" status takes a number of years to achieve. They could earn a #1 seed and reach the Final Four, and a year from now I would tell you the same thing. Not elite.

Elite programs are those with a history of being elite. Thats UNC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky
Now, an elite TEAM could be a one-year thing. MSU is not an elite program, but we've had our share of elite teams. The Detroit Final Four team was impressive. Similarly, Michigan has a lot of talent and if they pull of the run that we had in 2009, it's definitely fair to say that year's TEAM was elite.
Hmmmm strongly disagree again. Constantly winning the big ten and bring in the hunt for a NC year in and out is the definition of being elite. I think at this point due to the 09-10 seasons we are now and elite program.
Not at this moment, they are young and turn the ball over way to much. I think they will be, once they get more experience. I would say they should be ranked around 12-17 not 4.
No, they're not, but media outlets just salivate so much at the idea of any big name school being successful at anything that they'll promote promote promote until there is no ability to do so anymore.
an absolute suck job by espn....i can hear the slurping all the way over here....disgusting!
They are not elite with one shared Big Ten title and losing to their rivals in the first round last year....I also remember when they got a 7 or 8 seed and their shitty arena went bat shit crazy over it....fuck them and fuck everyone at espn they must strictly hire out of scum osu and sec for this bias dogshit
To die in ann arbor is redundant
UM wasn't even close to "elite" when it was cheating, which was like a 20+ year span of time.
I think we should take some of these people, and send 'em up to Bear Mountain for a picnic.
