LOL at the small contingent of BK worshipers on this board who are still butt hurt that he didn't get the MSU job. Let's take a moment before we start rubbing him off, shall we? Dude has lost to Navy, South Florida and fricking TULSA at ND. Obviously he's doing well this season, but ask Weis and Willingham what one good season at ND indicates as far as future dominance.
The two coaches have very similar results thus far at their respective schools. But only one of them has the best coaching circumstances in the country in terms of resources, recruiting advantages, history, etc.
yes. He wins everywhere he goes. The guy took Cinci to a BCS bowl and won for cripes sakes.
Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.
He was not staying at MSU. That would have not been good. It would have cemented the rep of MSU as a stepping stone school.
I wouldn't panic just yet. I think we win 11 games next year.
YOUR have been banned from reading and posting on the Michigan Wolverine board.
...........with MDs' guys. But why bother with the details.
and had to beat out teams like Rutgers, Louisville and Pitt to get there.
Would Kelly have been successful at MSU with the BOT (especially Ferguson) working against him? People shouldn't underestimate that. Dantonio's hiring brought everyone together and "rowing in the same direction" as LAKS says, for the first time in 40 years. Other hirings could have done the same thing, but Brian Kelly would NOT have been one of those hirings. Jesus, apart from the on-field success, our football program is at 6 years and counting without being a circus off the field at the administrative level. I think maybe about 1984-1990 is the last time you could go more than 2-3 years without a big conflict between the football coach, athletic director, president, BOT, or some combination of those as it related to the football program.
In Kelly's first year, the team just wasn't that good. I could care less what some random recruiting website says, that team just flat out wasn't that good. I thought Kelly did well to get them to finish at 8-5, particularly when they lost both their QB and that stud tight end of theirs(Rudolph).
As for last year, that answer's easy. Turnovers. It doesn't matter how talented you are if you can't hold on to the ball. I thought their defensive talent was overshadowed by the fact that the offense kept screwing it up for them. Looking at their games from last year, Stanford seems to be the only game where they just got straight-up beaten. If they hadn't pulled complete choke jobs against USF, UM, USC and even FSU, who knows what type of season they could've had.
Now credit to Kelly, he admitted that part of the reason for the turnovers was because of the pace he wanted to play on offense. He admitted a few weeks ago that is was smarter to slow down a little bit. The best coaches are the ones who make adjustments. Kelly has done that during his tenure at ND.
On the flip side, while I thought Dantonio had done a pretty good job of making adjustments himself over the last few years, he and his staff have done a piss-poor job of making them this season(I.E. Allowing Roushar to remain the play-caller, not benching receivers who routinely drop the ball, etc.)
Kelly seems to stress the little things that Weis and Willingham mostly ignored(Nutrition, conditioning, attention to detail, etc.). From the outside looking in, that seems to be the reason why ND is 10-0, and why I think they'll probably continue to play at a BCS level for the next few years.
Let's look at his records at each stop after GVS.
CMU - 4-7, 6-5, 9-4
Cinci - 10-3, 11-3, 12-1
ND - 8-5, 8-5, 10-0
Kelly takes a year or two at each place he's been coaching his system before having a great 3rd year. Since he hadn't stayed at CMU or Cinci beyond that, this will be the first stop to see if he can maintain having great seasons beyond season 3.
He seems to win with other peoples recruits. Guy starts winning when the freshman and soph players of his predecessor become juniors and seniors. OR, he takes two years to develop them. He's a good coach having a good year but there is way too much dick sucking going on by some of you.
Yes and no... Obviously, Manti Teo was Weis' recruit(Only worthwhile thing he did for ND), along with a few other key guys. However, he's got a lot of redshirt freshmen and true freshmen starting, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
Plus, wasn't one of the knocks on Weis his inability to develop the players he recruited?
Stop using logic here.
Keep it real. he will most likely end with 2 losses this year, and it will most likely be his ceiling . The records at Cincy were directly related to the predecessor, MD. and the CMU record was concluded by his assistant , Jones , who took over since THE TEAM, ALONG WITH THE CINCY TEAM, wanted to kill the fat bastard for screwing them over with his 'carpet bagging' , selfish pig style of committment.
F for accuracy.
You referenced Willingham? Why? He was screwed over before he had a real impact.
Heck, he won 10 games his first season , were blowers sniffing their vinegar strokes since he turned things around in 12 months?

Do I count 8 juniors and seniors on defense and 9 juniors and seniors on offense starting?
I only did it fast. Look, he's good, but we're going way overboard about what he's done so far. Lets let it wash out a year or two more, because that guy lost some games he had WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY more talent on the field then the teams he was playing. He's made some blunders, and I'm still not sure he knows what he's doing with the qb's. Of course it's a bottom line business and he's beat whoever they've put in front of him. Can't argue that.
Exactly. They are losing their top 2 RB's, 3 out of their top 4 receivers, 4 out of 5 starting OL. So returning 3/11 starters on offense. On defense they are for sure losing 1/4 DL, 2/3 LB, and 1/4 DB, but I think that Nix for sure is leaving and Shembo has a good chance. Meaning they will return 5-7 of 11 on defense and will lose possibly their top 4 defensive players.
While I don't exactly disagree with anything you just said, I couldn't help but laugh. This board was full of "sunshine blowers" claiming the offense wouldn't regress even though Cousins, Martin, BJ, Baker, etc. had all left.
Not saying you were one of those people, it's just I couldn't help but laugh at the memories
Shit happens. I just think everyone needs to let these things play out. Lots of frustrated Spartans trying to suck Kelly's dick here. He's good, but man, not dick sucking good.
I believe I mentioned this. Therefore there is no debate. Did you read my response to Duffy?
Yeah, but too much reading makes my head hurt after a while. I could have been a great attorney if it wasn't for all that damn reading. You guys need to change your rules.
You talk an awful lot about Kelly's dick.
When I start thinking about it, I'll let you know, but please no more PM's till then.
Bump for the butt hurt.
LOL! Jud Owns digger and the rest of the butthurt boner collective are so mad bro!
Still LOLing now that ND is playing for a National Championship? Just wonderin...
