House cleaning on the O-line starts today and I like it!
@davebirkett: Lions will release OG Stephen Peterman today, per a person familiar with the decision. Peterman started every game at RG the last 3 years
"On 4th and inches I'll take the whiskey drinkers over the milk drinkers any day"
Hello Chance Warmack/Barrett Jones
HE was soooo bad
Would love to grab both. I think both might be available in the 2nd round, but no guarantee there. Don't think they'll draft 2 OL early though. #1 need is a pass rushing DE.
This is THE move of the offseason for the Lions. huge improvement coming at RG

So far, I've loved the moves from Mayhew this off season.
There was a huge difference between a healthy Peterman and a hurt Peterman, and unfortunately he played hurt a lot.
Do want Barret Jones.
A man's gotta eat!
He's currently number 5 or 6 on Kiper's big board
I would look for the lions to cut Raiola or KVB next. Anyone else have thoughts on who is next on the chopping block?
OG is not a particularly high value position. But yeah I agree Warmack is the best OG on the board. I'd expect him to go in the mid teens to early 20s.
Raiola is a candidate. KVB is gone imo. Way too much money for an old DE who is a mediocre pass rusher and a liability against the run.
People are saying he is the best OG prospect ever. I think he could be worth it at 5, but is hard to argue with a DE pick there as long as they aren't Jarvis Jones.
The lions drafting Jarvis Jones is a disaster. the guy is a big liability against the run and ccan't put his hand down and pass rush, he's a stand up 3-4 end. not a good fit for detroit.
Peterman was great run blocker, HORRIBLE in pass pro:
"Although he didn't specifically mention Peterman, general manager Martin Mayhew was critical of the interior pressure allowed by the Lions offensive line this year. According to football analytics website Pro Football Focus, Peterman allowed more quarterback pressure than any starting guard during the 2012 season."
People said the same thing about David DeCastro last year and he fell to 23.
Peterman, Raiola, and Cherilus were the weak links of the o-line. Peterman has been cut and Cherilus is a free agent. I think it's pretty obvious that the Lions would love to let Reiff play right tackle for a year until Backus retires. That leaves the question of how safe is Raiola? Interior line is now either a draft need (I'd love Jones but could see him rising just due to his versatility) or a FA need.
Dave Birkett @davebirkett
Lions actually had 4 players in top 1/2 of league in OL rankings at position. Cherilus (No. 2 RT), Raiola (No 11 C), Sims (No 5 LG)
Peterman is such a fat tubs turnstyle. He'd lay his fat body on someone on a run play like twice a game for a good block and suck balls the rest of it.
Chance Warmack is a beast, I don;t think they'll go offense first pick though,
Wha!? This is slightly surprising. Although we hardly heard Cherilus' name mentioned last year, being No 2 is a surprise. And Raiola the No 11 C??? How can that be when I can't even name a time Stafford actually had a pocket to step up into and throw last year. Not once.
Who says Cherilus is the 2nd best RT???
Gosder's parents? Or maybe they meant 2nd best at false starting?
Yeah I want nothing to do with him. That kid out of BYU seems to be the hottness right now and could be perfet for the wide 9
Dave Birkett @davebirkett
Interesting enough, Peterman ranked 14th on Pro Football Focus’ OL rankings at right guard.
So apparently Pro Football Focus has these Lion O linemen ranked much higher than what fans think. I don't know how legit Pro Football Focus is, I was just posting a tweet by a Lions beat writer. I think his tweet, given the context of his other ones, was also one of incredulity.
14 out of how many? I'm thinking most teams had multiple guys play their OL positions, so there are probably not that many that graded out for an entire season.
Remind yourself. Nobody built like you, you design yourself.
Well, looks like KVB is gone too ...
