First I have seen this. Is this old news?
NEW YORK -- Texas' 64-41 loss to Georgetown Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden was even uglier than the score. The Longhorns, who are ranked 337th in the country in turnovers per game (19.1), coughed the ball up 22 times against the Hoyas. If it sounds like this team must be playing without a point guard, that's because it is. Myck Kabongo, a 6-foot-1 sophomore from Toronto, has not played yet for Texas this season because the NCAA is investigating whether he received extra benefits from an NBA agent last summer. Kabongo is technically eligible to play, but in reality Texas has no choice but to hold him out. If he plays and is later found to have committed these violations, the Longhorns could be forced to forfeit the games in which he played.

"Put your mother in a straight-jacket you punk ass white boy." ~ Mike Tyson
The details aren't finalized, but here it is: Next year on Veterans Day weekend, there will be four -- count 'em, four -- games taking place simultaneously at Cowboys Stadium, site of the 2014 Final Four. The games will begin 15 minutes apart and be held side by side (by side by side) in the giant facility. The purpose is to simulate the madness that takes place during the first week of the NCAA tournament. Only instead of the games taking place in four different cities, they'll be played in one town, under one roof.
"We're going to squeeze everything into a three-hour time period," Hollis told me. "We're talking with eight institutions right now that have a very high interest and have that weekend open, and we're going to partner with the 12 [military] bases that are around Dallas, so we can make it a celebration for the guys at Fort Hood and others."
Hollis is crazy
Hollis didn't want to get into which schools would be playing, except to confirm that Michigan State would be one of them. The idea came to him while he was touring the stadium last month for the unveiling of the 2014 Final Four logo. Cowboys Stadium is so massive (and its overhanging video screen so gargantuan) that Hollis wondered aloud whether they could have four courts instead of one for the Veterans Day tipoff. "I was sitting with Rolando Blackmon, and he said to me, 'You can never do that,'" Hollis said. "Someone barked out, 'You just told that to the wrong guy.' "
Wow. First I've heard as well. This sounds interesting to say the least
Hollis is a little bit like Barney Stinson.
Everything, even off the cuff throw away statements seem to result in...
Marriage is like flying with kids, if the flight had 500 connections, never ended, Ted Striker were your pilot and you ate the fish.
Next year, MSU playing on two courts...SIMULTANEOUSLY. MSU players sub out of one game and into another.
Likely opponents: Nicholls State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Another big game not at Breslin...awesome.
I sure hope all these circus shows that we like to take part in pay off with a Jabari signing.
seems like a lot of BB writers hate this idea....
Mark Hollis has jumped the shark. That idea sounds terrible.
Four games in one venue each starting 15 minutes apart? I'm with @DanWolken here. Too gimmicky
Plans to hold four CBB games AT ONCE at Cowboys Stadium, like it's a rec fieldhouse tourney. Dumb
They'll love it when it actually happens.
These same people probably called Hollis crazy for the basketball game on an aircraft carrier and made jokes about what did you do when someone airballed and the ball went off the court?
It does have an AAU feel, which may be appropriate given where basketball is at these days. Probably some big hurdles on this one, but the Basketball Committee surely knew what they were getting when they asked Hollis aboard. The regular season is largely irrelevant and will become moreso with further conference realignment. At least Hollis comes up with ideas.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
I like the idea but if MSU loses this game, we need to rename ourselves the Washington Generals.
So basketball fans will have to choose between watching 1 of 4 great games because they are on at the same time? Sounds like the New Years day B10 vs SEC bowl situation. I would rather have the option to see all of the games, not one.
Well, I'm damn excited about it. Only a couple hours away from where I live!
So how would they televise these games?
ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU all televise a game?
Or would ESPN just transition from game to game? for 2.5-3.5 hours?
Can't say this idea sounds all that appealing
4 games on one screen.
Another interesting non-conference slate
Champions Classic in Chicago (Kentucky)
Battle 4 Atlantis in Bahamas (Possibly Kansas)
Veterans Day at Cowboys Stadium (Hopefully a solid opponent)
Is MSU for sure confirmed for Battle 4 Atlantis? Their website has the 8th team (which would be MSU?) as TBA.
Hollis had previously floated this idea as part of a celebration of MSU sports at Ford Field, with the men's and women's basketball teams playing and I think volleyball.
This incarnation is cool too.
You think it's a bad idea for MSU to play a game at the same venue that will host the Final Four?
Aren't we in some tournament for Nike schools in the next few years? Remember Hollis putting together this.
The first time MSU basketball aired in France the French surrendered to Tom Izzo just to be safe.
That's not until 2017.
Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis told ESPN.com that he has secured commitments from 16 schools to participate in a two-tournament event in honor of Nike co-founder Phil Knight's 80th birthday.
long time from now....
Obviously this would never happen but would it be against NCAA regulations?
November 2017. It'll be two tournaments of 8 teams each in honor of Phil Knight's 80th birthday.
I have to be honest, I think this would be incredibly fun to go to, which is really what its supposed to be about. The military, active and veterans, getting a special occasion to enjoy college hoops. It would be like going to the U.S. Open or similar event where there are multiple matches and you can walk around and watch what you want, go get some beers or a sandwich, then go to another game. Probably a ton of sponsors in the tunnels and stuff, places to get your picture taken with famous alumni. I think it sounds awesome and I am very much thinking I will try to go.
You nailed it. A quadruple header, fine. I get that they're trying to be innovative and creative with the 4 at once idea, but the fans lose. And why in the hell are all those games played at the same time on January 1st.
