Jay Williams was friggin' outraged by that call..so were we! Shiat that game really could've shook the rankings up even more
There is romance in all of us
There should be statistical outliers that point out stupid voters. Those voters should then get a banning for a few weeks or more. Until then the system is interesting but really worthless.
I'll stand by my statement. It's questionable but they are 25-2 against the teams put in front of them
Their 2 losses were to teams ranked #13 at the time. First to an undefeated Illinois and another @ Butler. Both of these teams have some pretty good victories under their belt. I'm having trouble with my memory but I think they both beat the current #1?
Gonazaga is 1-2 against ranked opponents. MSU was 1-2 against their first 3 ranked opponents also. Granted MSU has had many more opportunities and their performance has improved dramatically throughout the season.
Gonazaga may not have played the greatest schedule but they haven't played cream puffs. WVU, Davidson, Okie, Okie St, Kansas St, Baylor, St Mary's (x2), etc.
Additionally, since you threw BPI in, Gonzaga is ranked 6 spots higher than MSU in BPI.

The Breslin better be insane on Tuesday night.
A lot of the voters are media personalities or journalists...not exactly college basketball diehards. These rankings only help with marketing for college hoops. The good thing is that the selection committee does consist of educated, intelligent college basketball fans. If you had me rank the NBA teams, I would probably have Miami at the top, followed by OKC, then a bunch of randomness because I don't really care, it means nothing, and it will all get worked out in a playoff. No different in the AP poll. It's part of their job. A handful don't really care, and they know it doesn't affect anything.
hoke- to alter or manipulate so as to give a deceptively or superficially improved quality or value.
So in other words, they've played the 94th, 98th, 17th, 17th (Okie State and Butler are tied), 23rd, and 28th, 19th, 55th, and 50th (twice) ranked teams in the RPI? MSU has played 11 games against the RPI top 50. For reference sake, Iowa is 79th in the RPI and Nebraska is 100th. Gonzaga's resume isn't close to MSU's at the moment.
That fact that you needed to include West Virginia (lost to Purdue by 25) to show that Gonzaga hasn't played creampuffs tells the story.
Would Purdue be on our list on tough games?

Dare I even say it? Have we seen........ Addition by subtraction?????

Your guys love our board, and we were pumped when clowney nuked that scum rb!
Has anyone ever seen Steve Wiseman and Jim Delaney in the same room?
After seeing how OSU pooped themselves yesterday, it's possible. But hey, let's not start sucking each other's d!@%$ quite yet.
Your a retard.
Regardless, surprising consistency between the 2 polls - the top 16 teams are the exact same with the exception of MSU and Florida being flipped.
No, not addition by subtraction. Are we a better team? Yes. To say we're better because we replaced Draymond is crazy. We're a better team because we're more well rounded but we'd be even better with Green. If we lose a game where Nix plays well down low, Harris is hitting shots, and so on, it will be because we have inconsistent shooters at PG and SF. Draymond would really solidify the long-range corner shot. Teams can cheat on Dawson and it's still worked out lately but it's always golden to have a guy like Draymond on the wing to compensate for Dawson's lack of long-shot ability.
No. Imagine how sick this team would be with Day Day.
How much more credit can they get? They're 4th, and they have losses to the #1 and #2 teams, and the #3 team is Gonzaga who has the best record in the country, and who's only 2 losses were to ranked teams and hasn't lost in a month....
MSU is right where they should be. Beat Indiana, and it'll jump 2 spots to #2 (behind Miami)
What are the details of this call i.e. the time it was called and score? I saw Clemson had a 4 point lead in the final minute in a game in which otherwise would have been the equivalent of a 7 point lead. I wondered how they could have blown it, not surprised to see the refs had a big hand in it
They use a combination of both. They take the higher ranking. When MSU was ranked 8th in the coaches and 12th in the AP, they played a ranked team (I forget who) and used the coaches ranking for MSU and the AP ranking for the other team.
CBS does this weekly.
Gonzaga hasn't played anyone good over the past month. Do you realize that MSU has lost once in all of 2013 and it was by 5 to IU in Bloomington? We absolutely should be ahead of Gonzaga.
Gonzaga only has 2 losses, and they are to the #15 team right now (who they lost by 1 to on the road), and Illinois (who is technically 29th right now, and who MSU beat by 5 at home). Gonzaga has wins against the current #14 and #15 teams.
MSU has losses to the current #1 and #2 teams and then 2 losses to unranked teams (minnesota, and Uconn who didn't even receive any votes this week) MSU has wins agains the current #7, #9, #18 and #19 teams.
BUT MSU has lost since Gonzaga has last lost (meaning that Gonzaga continued to rise, as MSU had to drop in the rankings one week) AND Gonzaga has the better overall record (which ins't everything, but still counts for something in favor of Gonzaga).
You're really splitting hairs to demand and be butt hurt about Gonzaga being one spot ahead of MSU. Go out and beat Indiana and OSU this week and you'll jump them since they are playing SCU and USD this week.
Some jack@ss picks apart my statement where I say Gonzaga at #3 is questionable and now I'm the Zags mascot.
OTOH, you guys sound like the O'Doyle family.
Gonzaga played 8 'BCS' schools in the non-con and MSU only played 4. We went 2-2 while they were 7-1. It's not like Gonzaga shied away from decent competition. Our SOS went through the roof once B1G play started. I'm not one for punishing them, or all other schools, that don't play in the B1G this year.
You're wrong. Gonzaga's resume is close to MSU's. In fact, most would argue that it is better. They are ranked higher in the 2 major polls, BPI and KenPom. MSU is higher in RPI and SOS.
I think MSU is the better team but it doesn't hurt to take off the green glasses occasionally. Hopefully we win tomorrow and this conversation is nothing more than time wasted.
Not ESPN. ESPN uses only the AP poll. ESPN had promoted the MSU-Wisconsin game as MSU @13 even though coaches poll had MSU at 9. ESPN had the MSU-Minnesota game as the 12 vs 18 (even though USAToday had MSU @8). Now MSU is 4th and 5th and ESPN is using 4th vs 1 Indiana.
ESPN uses the AP poll, not both. In fact I remember a few weeks ago when MSU and Butler were both ranked 9th in the other poll of each other (Butler was 9th AP, MSU 13th) They played a day apart and Butler had 9 nxt to them while MSU has 13.
If further evidence is needed look at #17 now and AP has Marquette. Coaches have Wisconsin at 17 instead. ESPN has 17 next to Marquette, not Wisconsin.
This isn't even necessarily directed at just you YAxTRICK, mostly the other guy as well who said they go off of the coaches poll (which like I said, BTN goes off of those, maybe thats the confusion).
Your argument fails when you use a ranking made up by ESPN and some guy who admits his formula is flawed.
I'm not even remotely surprised that there were a few idiots who voted Michigan ahead of MSU. You knew it was coming. It happens to other teams too. This isn't just a "pro Michigan, anti MSU" thing like it might be in football. People just don't watch the games, yet get to vote. It's funny.
