Discussed on 1130 this morning - is MSU basketball more respected within Michigan or nationwide?
Is this a serious question? Nationally and it is not close.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Not even close
I'm not sure ESPN even knows that MSU exists
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
I don't know about that...
Are you joking or were you being serious? MSU Basketball is viewed as a blue blood program around the nation. Hell, some of our "journalists" here don't even think we're the best team in the state...
This. Definitely nationally.
You see all of the analysts on CBS pick Mizzou to get to the Final Four and then on ESPN they were saying that Mizzou has an easy path to New Orleans
I rest my case
More respected in Michigan than nationally. Interesting question, though.
I moved back to Michigan as an adult, along with Florida and Mpls. I also have close friends and family scattered around the country. Nationally is the correct answer. Izzo and MSU are respected and feared big time. Michigan is too split by the bias of the media and the unbearable Walverines.
Living A Spartan Life!
Definitely nationally. In Michigan, no matter what MSU does, it is compared to scUM. Nationally, everyone knows about our insane amount of recent Final Fours and respects the way Izzo does it.
within Michigan for basketball for sure
nationally everyone recognizes us and knows that we are good
but within Michigan, like us or not, people know the actual stats because they are impossible to ignore
We've got depth. We've got numbers.
Last night during ESPN's post-brackets show, 3 of the 4 had MSU in the Final Four.
Digger had MSU winning it all, Hubert had MSU losing in the national championship and Bilas had MSU losing in the Final Four. Only Dick Vitale had MSU not in the Final Four and he put us in the Elite 8.
The ESPN crew showed MSU tons of love last night.
More respect nationally....it is of Biblical proportions:
"Neither a prophet nor a collegiate basketball head coach shall receive honor in their home state." John 2:88.
"Leave the gun.....take the cannoli"
"It's not your job to be as confused as Nigel."
Every analyst on ESPN's bracket program picked us to the Final Four, 2 picked us to the title game and one had us winning it. You case is crap.
This. That. And the Other
Not sure, I've got Caputo on hold. Let me check with him.
I was down in D.C. the other night.... wearing a spartan sweatshirt.. multiple people "damn I love that coach of yours and that draymond green is a boss"
More UM related topics/trolling from the same poster...
In an era in which star players often spend just a year or two on campus before heading to the N.B.A., Novak and Green are rarities.
With whos coming and leaving, how does it stack up?
dunno tpain: ALL 4 DOUCHEBAGS on the skip bayliss show or whatever the fuck it's called this morning picked mighty MISSOURI to roll into the final four: never said a word about MSU.......however, all the big boys like Bilas picked us for the finals last night......overall, I"d say we are VERY respected nationally: in Michigan, SCummers get in the way

I have family that live in Pennsalvania, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, and I am the only one left in Michigan. Based on what my family says: Nationally. My sister ( A Spartan grad in Kentucky - sorry no pics), saw the Kirk Cousins Big Ten speech on the news there - before I saw it here. Just an example. But MSU did get some love this a.m. on morning sports radio.
Anyone else think these topics were all brought up on 1130 when they were posted as well?
Nationally for sure. All the delusional um fans that don't recognize MSU as an elite program are at least mostly concentrated in Michigan. Izzo alone is nationally recognized and gets a good amount of positive PR.
The moment is eternal
1130 is still in business?
I read the news today, oh boy .. ..
About a lucky man who made the grade
Nationally. I've heard numerous national personalities in the past few weeks "say beware of Izzo in March" and similar. In Michigan we get Caputo's (an alum no less) column, Carty's column from 2003, Rob Parker's rantings when he worked for the News, etc. If someone at ESPN had tried to make the argument that Caputo did, they would've been laughed at on national tv.
Just about every analyst (including Dick Vital, Jay Williams, and Jay Bilas) picked Duke to be the first 1 or 2 seed to get knocked out of the tournament. Does this mean Duke is not respected as well?
