A while ago, I predicted a big bounce back year for the hockey team next season. We return a lot and our incoming freshman are absolutely legit. Stenglein is a machine in the USHL right now.
Unfortunately, we are just going to have to sit with all the shit this place will sling at the program from now until then.
This. Next year should be a step in the right direction. If they struggle so much next year, then we can start to worry. That being said, I think his 4th full year on the job should be the measuring stick. At that point, the guys playing the most minutes should be his recruits. Next year should be a step in the right direction and I really like what I've seen from Hildebrand this year. I really think MSU got a good one there and he should be the starting goalie for 3 more years.
And if the good Lord’s willin’,
I’m a keep on chillin’,
refillin’ and flyin’ high
Bingo. Bango. Bongo. Done.

Actually, this is a better vid. If you think college hockey is boring, you're insane.

Thank you, Denicos.
I hate to give you an upvote after that shit you ran in the other post about Mods, but you deserve it for the good work in this one. Here goes.
Exactly. All three of these guys are top tier recruits. If only one of the three were coming in next fall, we'd be pretty pleased.
I only follow MSU hockey loosely but there is a lot of anti-Comley sentiment in this thread. Why is he considered such a bad coach? I always assumed he was good because of the Natty Championship. Did he just get lucky with that?
Also what is a good website to follow MSU hockey and hockey recruiting?
Most people on here are pissed because they think he left Anastos with an empty cupboard
He is a good coach and the NC was great. He just kind of lost steam as the years went on and recruiting dipped. Comley was getting older and is very old-school.
You can look at NHL draft picks on the rosters over the years. In 2005 we had 9 and this year we have 4, where all 4 are new this year and one made it 2 games or so before a season ending shoulder injury(Holland). Last year we had 2 draft picks or something.
Nevertheless, I really like Anastos.
As for this place, I find it interesting that most people here never discuss hockey until a thread like this pops up, then they've got an opinion.

The hockey program has really fallen hard. Very unfortunate. Used to be a top program year after year.
The moment is eternal
My take on this in a nutshell:
First, got lucky? If that's what you think name the teams that got lucky and won the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament Championship in the last 25 years, versus those deserving the win. Please provide that list.
Second, Comley followed a college ice hockey legend in Ron Mason. Psycologically, some people cannot deal with the fact that Comley simply wasn't Ron Mason. Comley had his own "genius" which wasn't appreciated. In the end, however, he had a better situation than he had at Northern Michigan with regard to facilities and recruiting, but he didn't consistently take advantage of that and he deserved to be replaced. That said, 2006-07 and 2007-08 were very good years for him at MSU.
In this regard, I talked in my post, above, about TA and his staff playing a style that is exciting to watch, but for that style, you need really good players because everyone in college hockey knows what you are doing and how to defend it. Comley taught his players a lot of different styles of play and some were unorthadox, but they tended to work with average to good college hockey players. That just wasn't acceptable at MSU, a college hockey powerhouse and legacy program. And that's okay. TA has us on the right track so far.
Yea it's usually amateur hour during hockey talk on this board. And your post is a great example. Then again you advocating the firing of Anastos is not surprising. You do the same for Dantonio and Izzo so why should hockey get a break? It would take you a couple hours just to get equipment on, let alone actually being coordinated enough to move . Good old T-Pansy

How dare you use facts, logic and well thought out examples to analyze MSU hockey!!
Best stick with the T-Pansy method and whine like a bitch at every turn.
Also gotta love this Michigan fan talking shit about a coach in his second year. Meanwhile "regular season" Red isn't even living up to that moniker. He's really been hitting the bottle hard this year. His liver may end up being used as a puck by seasons end with the way he's headed. Our coach had an obvious rebuilding job. Red is just going down the shitter with two decades worth of experience. Poor old lush.
IMO, last season and this season need to be thrown out the window. Last year, Anastos had a bunch of seniors (and Krug) from what many pundits at the time said was Comley's best MSU recruiting class. (Hindsight says those pundits were quite wrong, though.)
I expected an NCAA appearance last season, and Anastos met those expectations. He doesn't deserve to be heralded nor criticized for it.
This year, Anastos is dealing with a team that's really young. It's was an incoming class that was almost entirely recruited by Comley, too.
Aside from, I think, four players - five before Carney's career-ending injury - this is still Rick Comley's team. It's a team, for the majority part, that was built in Comley's image and was destroyed multiple times over by high-level decommitments in Comley's last two years.
We don't know how good of a recruiter Anastos is yet. I will say that, from a preliminary standpoint, he's been about as good as Comley was in his last four years: He's had big wins (MacEachern) and some bad decommitments (like Brendan Perlini, Brett's younger brother, and Bailey). Additionally, coaches are using Anastos' inexperience against him to successfully recruit against MSU.
TL, DR version: It's too early. Next season will be a telling year, though, and Anastos won't be insulated from criticism then. It's still Rick Comley's team and program.
I will say, from a facilities standpoint, with the recent Yost renovations, MSU's now dead last in the B1G. Hollis did say he was going to put together a $20 million renovation plan, however. That renovation plan will not push MSU past PSU, UW and Minnesota, but it will push MSU past OSU and UM again, at least. IMO, MSU really needs a practice rink with Olympic ice, but the money just isn't there.

Exactly. Like a Michigan fan has any room to say anything. The only reason they are ahead of us in the standings right now is because they won a couple shootouts and we lost a couple. Michigan is easily the most underachieving, disappointing team in the nation right now.
My vote? Cancel all sports except Football, Mens Basketball, Womens volleyball, and Womens Basketball. I'd say cancel womens basketball, but... Title 9 and all..

Funny thing is is that we may have the best goalie in the CCHA
Michigan gets BC talent and gets Alaska Fairbanks results
we need to get the forecheck working but not neglect the back-check to protect the netminder.
Look at his posting history you stupid SOB. Nothing but MSU bashing and bad jokes about hoping Ron mason is dead. I know you're a dyed in the wool coward, but that's no reason for you to also side with walverines. I mean, you really couldn't tell it was a UM schtick? How completely unsurprising given your intellect. CSB to the core.
Well that wasn't nice.
No, it wasn't. But then again, walverines and self loathers don't get the benefit of the doubt.
I'm glad you said it, A_Allen and not me. Right own!!
