Think Michigan St RB Nick Hill (5-8, 193) is just a speed back? He increased his squat to 615 and his bench-press to 420 this winter #power
Hill tells me people have doubted him because of his size for years, intends to prove them wrong this season.
Spartans DE Shilique Calhoun says of defense, "Last year was good, but we need to be better. Even when we're No. 1, we're not going to stop"
Hill said he and fellow RB Jeremy Langford are splitting snaps with the first-team offense through the first few spring practices.
Fonoti didn't have to come back and take a medical redshirt after suffering a season-ending foot injury, but despite homesickness, he is healthy again and ready to lead.
Lewis, who had two interception returns for 69 yards and six pass breakups last season, said having Narduzzi calling the defensive plays makes all the difference.
Dantonio said in the school release that the defense was crisp.''
What were Ringer's weight numbers? I remember them being impressive.
All of the weight room numbers in the world mean nothing if he can't hold onto the ball.
This is a Pallas’s cat. Their round pupils give them an odd human quality. They disturb me...deeply.
Good stuff in this thread. Lets keep it going.
Does he actually have an issue with this or did he just get pegged with it due to that fumble in the CCG a couple years ago?
Didnt Baker get all stacked and muscle bound? Many think that caused him to be less shifty, a big reason why his numbers declined? The last thing Hill needs is to be less shifty. And yes, he coughs up the ball.
Hill was never that shift to begin with, nor is he a speedster.
Baker's problems were moreso because of lack of vision, and a vastly inferior (and injured) OL. Also I think he nursed some hamstring issues for a while.
I wonder why Kittredge couldn't practice for more than half an hour.
in for future updates. +1
It says his jersey lasted under an hour, probably a way to express the physicality of the practice.
Thanks SO much Macks....great thread man. +1
I remember the numbers being thrown around for Ringer as 600 and 400. I don't remember if those were just ball park or exact. Either way, Hill is as strong or stronger than Ringer.
Reading comprehension fail on my part. Thanks
That Calhoun quote...I'm gonna go punch some shit in my apartment.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
no doubt, he's a very stout RB, but I have to agree with others in the thread: he HAS to hang onto the ball and quite frankly, he hasn't shown the speed or shiftiness to be a #1 RB.....yet.
indeed my friend....how 'bout the fact that he has bulked up to 255 from 240? NICE....
The defense is going to be nasty yet again. I love it.
absolutely...matter of fact, it can be argued it will be better. It'll be kind of fun watching the national media dismiss them due to Gholston and Adams being gone....both replacements have a chance to be as good or better: not early in the season, but certainly by the end of it.
Love it. He came in pretty undersized at like 6'5 218lbs....now Mannie has had 3 years to work with him and he gets Burton and Narduzzi's full attention (as a starter). Got some good playing time and I thought he was better than Gholston as a pass rusher. If he can bring some burst off the line and good technique I think he can easily outproduce Gholston's numbers. The question is, will he be as good against the run?
Didn't Shilique have more QB pressures than Gholston in about half the snaps last year?
I expect a top 5 defense again.
Think so. Gholston was a pretty poor pass rusher without Worthy next to him. Just seemed to be really slow off the line and didn't show much technique other than bull rushes.
To be fair, I think Gholston set a record for # of holds not called on him. I think he was so physically dominating, the refs did the whole "he's big enough to play through it" thing.
True but it's so easy to get away with a hold if the DE doesn't even try to disengage. So many times I saw Gholston being held but instead of doing a spin more or something he'd just keep pushing. Don't recall seeing a swim move either, or just much hand usage in general.
All true, and if you REALLY look at his technique in terms of rushing the passer it was sub par....no spin move, no swim move, no....you get the point. He could have REALLY benefited from Coach Burton's input because the man played in the NFL and knows what it takes. I think Will was least ready of our 3 juniors that came out....could be wrong, but I'm just VERY bummed about it. He desperately needed one more season IMO.
Not much you can do when you cleanly beat your man and are dragged down/held from behind. I recored every game, watched them all multiple times, and Gholston was simply held as a rule of thumb.
