Okay all you old-timers....can we get a verification if this is truly a look we ever rocked back in the day? I don't believe this actually belonged to Magic, but if this even a legit warm-up from the 70's that's pretty cool in itself. It's like a combination of the Houston Astros and Denver Nuggets from back in the day.
that is so hideous, but i want to wear it to tailgate
And I noticed the seller is from Lawrenceville, GA. Maybe it's from Chris Allen's family. I thought I heard once that his Grandmother lived on the same street as where Magic grew up?
how can it be game worn if it is only a warm up?
so heres at least a home warmup....

Hideous... but looks like something they wore back in the day.
Nίκη για MSU
this thing is so ugly that i kind of want it.
i cant log onto eBay
i don't know...i want to believe its real but i believed in the tooth fairy for 8 years and look what happened.
If nothing else, this seller can thank me for helping drive the price up in the last hour.
Looks legit to me. I agree with other posters. It's so ugly, but I want it.
There's a time and a place for everything and it's called college.
Was the Spartan head logo used back then? I'm not familiar enough with MSU Uniforms to know.
I was skeptical until I noticed that, too. Now I think it could be the real deal. Would need more research than just that tag, though.

it probably has STDs we don't even know about yet...i still want it
tHANKS aGIS!! i WAS THE HIGH BIDDER THIS MORNING!!! i WAS HOPING IT WOULD LAY IN THE SHADOWS AND i COULD GET IT FAIRLY CHEAP....
I'm guessing if verified it might go for near 1000.00. I love the style!

This is only my opinion, but that warm up is from 1985-86 Scott Skiles era and was not around in 1978-79. There are many photos of the 1978-79 warm ups. They sold this set of warm ups at one of the MSU Spartan Stadium garage sales years ago.
The "SPARTANS" script on the back of it looks very similar to the Skiles-era home jerseys (see pic below). That might not mean anything, but just pointing it out.

The team photo from 1986 shows them wearing the "Milwaukee Bucks Style" warm ups. I have it somewhere . . .
I remember them wearing those warm ups in the early to mid 80's but not in the late 70's.Wonder if Magic got them from the school or if there was another EJ on those 80's teams.
If it's got a Vandervoorts tag on it, assume it's authentic.
Authentic, yes, but not necessarily "game-worn" by Earvin Johnson as advertised on eBay. As others are pointing out, this seems to be a warm-up from the Skiles era.
..Or if some enterprising memoribilia dude just pulled out his black Sharpie and put "EJ 33" on the VanDervoorts tag.

.....I was born to synthesize.....
Definitely not a 1979 warm up set. Here is the back of one at the end of the Indiana State game at Salt Lake.
The warm up is from 86/7. The pants are teh same as 85/6 so they could be a pair of pants from 85/6 and 86/7 top but makes sense to have both be from 86/7. Also, there was no one on that team with tht number or initials at that time.
It's a real warm up from 86/7 and that the sharpie was added later. value 100-150.00. Could it sell for much more when you get two people bidding-yes... I might just buy it to wear to MSU games -total attention getter :)
The tag has EV 33 on it...doesn't mean it's Magic Johnson.
Does anyone know if:
I wouldn't automatically assume EV = Ervin
No one wore 33 after Johnson.
