I thought only snake would be handing out the punishment...
I'm pretty selfish, but I go out of my way to be really nice about it.
I am afraid that the whole world is closer to moral foreclosure.
I call BS.
If this is true, why haven't more posters been banned from this place???
Probably because tRCMB is an evolutionary dead end.
Thank god evolution doesn't exist.
Don't have a dog in this fight, but this stood out to me:
“We found evolution will punish you if you’re selfish and mean,” said lead author Christoph Adami, MSU professor of microbiology and molecular genetics. “For a short time and against a specific set of opponents, some selfish organisms may come out ahead. But selfishness isn’t evolutionarily sustainable.”
Who said evolution had anything to do with sustainability? Sounds like we're inserting a normative value into the concept of evolution to justify an essentially political argument.
Someone is handing out spankings?! How do I get one?
I think among higher-brained organisms, selfishness is unsustainable.
Good thing the human race is mostly comprised of people like the aforementioned.
Half the guys here fantasize about lashing your nekid body with thick leathery bacon!
maybe there is no such thing as sustainability in nature, mankind and other large brained organisms included?
I really hope your joking.
Research is what I am doing when I don’t know what I am doing - Werner von Braun
"There is a price that society pays if everyone determines his behavior selfishly," says. And this cost of selfish behavior is what game theorists call the price of anarchy.
Acting altruistically rather than selfishly is what makes quarantines successful in stopping disease outbreaks. But an analysis by scientists at MIT finds that commuting patterns also could play a big role in how infectious diseases spread.
I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.
what's your definition of selfishness? Just about everything we do is selfish. Selfishness is not necessarily bad...
You posting on this board is being selfish...going to get your favorite food for lunch is being selfish...having a type of girl you'll date is being selfish.
Cooperation can even be selfish...because you want to survive the zombies.

Thinking only of yourself without regard for how your actions may affect others.
Some selfish actions aren't necessarily bad, especially those so small in scale that there is little need to consider the impact on others.
Your examples don't fit what I would call "selfish" behavior.
Anyway, read the article, and do further investigation if you don't understand what the researchers are referring to.

Since this is bound for Wells, how can you not conclude the study basically says "communism good, capitalism bad." Paper thin.
Absolutely the case when RP and Varg do this
You must be new here if you call that a sissy slap fest.
Yeah, no middle ground. Any group of people working together is communism!
You don't know what adverbs are, do you?

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.
Be sure to make a distinction between self-interest and selfish.
so you're admitting that it doesn't?
