Faceoff coming to the right of Skoff with 12:06 left in the third period. Score stands at 2-2.
Faceoff coming just outside of the MSU zone with 9:58 left in the third. Score is still 2-2.
Tom Anastos is not a bad looking guy but he should seriously consider bringing that hair right down to a buzz cut or shaving his head.
Faceoff coming to the left of Hildebrand after the Spartans stopped a 2 on 1 break for Penn State. 5:57 left in the third, score still 2-2.
Penn State scores, 3-2 PSU now with 4:01 left in the third.
That was just a bad clearing attempt, of which there have been several tonight, that lead to the goal by Holstrom. MSU has looked rather shaky in their own end tonight.
Wow we suck this year!
And DeBlouw takes a penalty with just 1:47 left in the game. Penn State goes on the power play leading 3-2.

Reimer has a shot that ALMOST trickles through for a MSU goal, but the puck stays out. Faceoff coming to the left of Skoff, and I think MSU will pull their goalie for this last chance. 58.2 seconds remain.
Michigan State had a couple chances late, but was unable to find an equalizing goal. Penn State wins 3-2.
Watching WMU/UM on FSD. The difference between WMU and MSU is staggering. Crisp, clean, fast paced hockey out of the Broncos. State just looks sluggish and unorganized.
Western had Andy Murray taking over for Blashill after he recruited well and got a gig with the wings. Anastos is rebuilding after the dumpster fire that (sans one season) was the Comley era.
"losing Caleb Benenoch is a blow that Dantonio will never recover from. Izzo has lost it as well. Hoke and Beilein own the state."
Stats for the game:
Shots on goal:
Penn State: 50
Michigan State: 33
Penn State: 34
Michigan State: 30
Penn State: 1-4
Michigan State: 0-3
Penn State: Mark Yanis, Casey Baily, Taylor Holstrom
Michigan State: RJ Boyd, Matt Grassi
Penn State: Matthew Skoff 31
Michigan State: Jake Hildebrand 47 <--This is a career high in saves for Hildebrand
3) Casey Baily, PSU
2) Taylor Holstrom, PSU
1) Jake Hildebrand, MSU
couldn't of said it better myself... so I didn't
so mattyfresh and so clean
Oldtimer here. When my wife and I were first married '74, living in married housing while I was starting grad school at MSU, our "date night" in the winter was watching "Amo's Army" with 1/2 a season ticket, 2nd row in the corner in front of the goal line. WCHA, scum, notre dame, minny, wisky, mich tech (when they were always top 5), etc. State was the ONE MSU team that could consistently put a beating on scum, had the lion's share of All Americans, etc. at a time when the Spartans never beat scum in bball or on the gridiron. The fans drooled over the team and Amo Bessone, Tom Ross, Daryl Rice, Steve Culp, Bellamy etc.. and the other all WCHA or All Americans (I believe Ross went on to be national player of the year before he left MSU. Demand for tickets were so high that they had to split them into Friday night and Saturday night flights...AND THEY SOLD OUT EVERY SINGLE SEAT BOTH NIGHTS.. thats right.. North of 13,000 people in the seats for hockey EVERY weekend. Amo retires and is replaced by a coach that goes on to becoming the winningest coach in NCAA hockey history.
And what do I see now....
A hockey coach hire who was an administrator not a coach before taking the MSU job
A team that seems to be so poorly coached that they yeild FIFTY ....EFFEN FIFTY shots on gaol...shameful in any league
and last but not least
A team that LOSES a HOME game to a team one year removed from CLUB TEAM STATUS..a team with 16 former club team members on the current team.
I think Hollis is awsome...but this is absolutely inexcusable... horrible direction and support for what used to be a gem of a hockey program in the league and nationally.... letting it fall to laughable status.. Way to go.
We also tied western a month ago in the gli.
Well, shit. It's an embarrassing loss but psu is a decent team and man did they play hard and aggressive. You can tell that they go into these games with a chip on their shoulder. They looked about as tough as any other team I've seen in Munn this year sans ferris and note same. The college hockey community will laugh at this one but now we know how Ohio state and Air Force felt.
I agree with this. RC was a disaster, but these guys tonight looked poor.

You know nothing about hockey
Comley did a lot of great things for this program
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
That's true. The MSU job was a rebuilding effort from day 1. TA squeezed last years talent and coached his ass off as we made the tourney. This year, with a dozen freshman is when it became time to pay the piper for the dearth of talent that was inherited. God love these kids, they're Spartans and bust their ass on a daily basis for the U. But the fact is a great many wouldn't have been Spartans a decade ago. When Comley was hired from NMU he brought NMU recruiting instead of capitalizing on the resources given to him. We simply weren't getting or really even competing for talent like Jim Slaters, David Booths, Adam Hall, Andrew Hutchinson, Ryan Miller on a large enough scale.
Two of Comleys highest drafted (without checking they may be the top 2 actually) Daulton Leveille and AJ Then both were pretty big disappointments. One got kicked off the team and the other was a healthy scratch during his senior yr at times.
Give Anastos 4-5 years and then begin the doomsday proclamations if he's still producing seasons like this. I will be the first one in line if this program , which I believe is a top 5 program when running on all cylinders, is still in the conference cellar.
Not sure if serious.
You're completely out of your element here. Comley was fired for a reason. I'd go into detail why but you're a hockey amateur who really doesn't know a damn thing about the game, the recruiting, and the politics involved. Comley won a NC, and bless his heart for that and I will be forever grateful for that season. Too bad it's literally just one season to write home about. The rest of the time we were NMU south.
I like how you just brush off the NC like it's nothing
Comley was also a man of high character who taught the game the right way
While admitting that this is a very young team, have they improved their play as the season has progressed? If not, why?
WMU's hockey program has got players and is well coached by former NHL coach Andy Murray.
Its more than Comley or Anastos. MSU doesn't have the advantage of having the U-18 US development team in town like Red has in aa and MSU has aging facilities. MSU no longer has the cache that it did when a proven winner Ron Mason came to town with 2 young hungry assistants in Sean Walsh, Terry Christensen and then George Gwozdecky.
Its just a tougher job recruiting to MSU when places like PSU, ND and Miami have modern hockey palaces. When Manson built MSU into a national power Munn was about as good as it got. Now its a so what facility.

Wtf us that bin sequitur bs? If course he was a classy guy who conducted himself with dignity. I didn't brush off the NC. I said exactly what any non amateur, Johnny come lately, MSU hockey fan. It was a great achievement and I am very grateful for it. The rest of the time simply was below MSU standards.
Never won a ccha regular season title.
Losing record vs UM
Inconsistent and mediocre recruiting
Dump and chase as option #1
Small and out physical'd because of above mentioned recruiting woes.
Drop off of NHL products
Drop off in players picked for the World Jr. Championships.
Poor repoire with honeybaked
The list can go on. Nobody doubts Rick is a good man. Just over his head.
