Eh, I would have to grudgingly agree with his assessment. Keith is good on D, but those other two are defensive specialists. Craft is over hyped and completely one dimensional, but still a great on ball defender. Of course no sane person would trade Keith for him because he is completely inept on offense.
Oladipo, IMHO, is the best player in the conference. He's turned himself into a game changer on both ends of the court, which very few players can say. I'm not sure what he did in his off season, but I'd love for Dawson to copy it.
I guess I'm just not a fan of how Craft's defensive prowess is essentially hoping that they don't call him for fouling.
Thanks for reminding me why I dont read anything from the Free Press. That was one of the worst write ups I have ever seen.
He's just not athletic enough to stay with the Keith Applings and Trey Burkes so he hand checks and molests all game and gets away with it. Travis Walton wasn't lebron James by any stretch but he was capable if staying with nearly everyone. Mike Kelly light.
"losing Caleb Benenoch is a blow that Dantonio will never recover from. Izzo has lost it as well. Hoke and Beilein own the state."
Everytime Stauskus hits that corner jumper doesn't it look like he turns towards the opposing bench to mouth off.
I remember Oladipo as a freshman being guarded by Draymond; he couldn't shoot back then so Green was sagging off of him big-time. He still had that ridiculous first-step and just jetted by him each time. I remember thinking that if he ever improved his ball-handling and jump shot that Crean would have something.
Well, 2 years later, and he's arguably the conference player of the year right now. Athletic freaks who work that hard and can stroke it from deep are rare.
Don't most people consider Rexrode to be the best of the MSU beat writers?
I hate Craft too, but Travis Walton played a very similar style of physical defense at times. He didn't get the calls Craft does though and he was a much better defender than Craft IMO.
I equate Craft's defense to offensive lines that hold every play because they know the ref won't flag them every down.
Yes. And that is why he is my least favorite player in the country.
Dude, you're the fourth or fifth best player on your own team, making a living off of other players creating open jumpers for you, and you're fucking Canadian - settle the fuck down.
It's just frustrating to watch the dude. He is a good defender, but he does slap and reach in a lot and gets the benefit of many many no-calls. I wouldn't mind if we got that kind of star treatment. You'd think Appling would deserve some respect, but newp. Foul. Foul. Foul. Foul.
This game will come down to whether or not Payne/Gauna can consistently find a gap in the zone and hit the 12-15 ft jumper. If they hit a few of those and force either a big or guard to hedge when they get the ball at the free throw line, it'll allow other to get behind the zone for easy buckets.
This team is too good and athletic to settle for outside jumpers from the guards.
I'm calling it now, Bryd shocks the world tonight!
The will to succeed is important, but what's more important is the will to prepare.
But when Harris and Appling and to a lesser extent Valentine have been hitting the outside shot, I don't think it's "Settling." I agree with need to get payne some looks, but I'm not counting on Gauna contributing very much if at all offensively.
On a sidenote, do we know Morgan's status for UM yet? They are playing this very quiet which to me suggests he is going to try to give it a go tonight. Our up-tempo is going to test his ankle early and often.
DJ? What's he going to do? Get smashed again with Kelsey Barlow?
So I didn't see the game last night. How did Hardaway shoot? I assume around 50%?
Is 1/11 50%? then yes
Interesting. Ok, yeah, that's not even close to 40%. Ryan Evans just saw that shooting percentage and laughed at how bad it was.
Thank you, Denicos.
