kind of looks to me like it was intentional...dude's got a horrible past history so I'm sure I'm not giving him the benefit of the doubt. Kind of a weird way to go about hitting someone either way. what's everyone else think?
Matt Cooke's skate cuts Erik Karlsson's leg
Meh, looked a little awkward of a hit to me to be on purpose. He was watching the puck the whole time which is the good part, stuff like this only happens once in awhile and I dont know a single player that would actually use their skate to hurt someone else.
Slow motion can be deceptive. From there it looks like it might be intentional but I can't see any earlier (maybe he was skidding into that stop or something) so I dunno.
I doubt it, but with his track record I wouldn't put it past him. To me, he gets thrown off balance going into the boards with Karlsson and is simply putting his foot down to regain balance. Either way...man that's just painful thinking about it.
I hate Matt Cooke. Straight up Canadian trash

It was just a mistake;
I didn't mean to let them take away my soul.
Am I too old?
Is it too late?
Matt Cooke is a dirty bastard, but this was an accident.
The NHL agrees. It's already been reported that there will be no hearing on the matter.
Not defending the hit (bare minimum, that would've been a slew foot if not against the boards) or his history, but are any of you aware that he damn near leads the league in fewest penalty minutes over the last season and a half? He's completely turned his game around after his season-ending suspension in 2011, to the point where half of Pittsburgh thinks he plays too soft these days.
There is only one player in the league that I wish serious debilitating injury on, and that is Matt Cooke.
He would be considered dirty by the goons 30 years ago in hockey.
The fact that his trash is one thing - being Canadian got nothin to do with it
It's hard for me to believe it's not intentional with his past history. I've just never seen someone go about hitting someone like that. You can see in longer videos on youtube he doesnt lose an edge. He just picks his leg up. That would be the last thing I would do if I was going to make a hit and make sure I didnt end up on my ass. It looks to me like he would have plenty of room to just put his foot down without extending it forward and up like he did. There's a heel flick that doesn't look too good either. I hate the guy so I guess it's not exactly unbiased opinion though.
Erik Karlsson cut by the skate of Matt Cooke
After seeing more of the play and closer to real speed, it looks like he went for a slew foot, started losing is balance and the skate came down on Karlsson's leg, instead of the ice when they hit the boards. Just my opinion.
With that being said hes still a dirty player and won't see any sympathy from me with any punishment that comes from this (or anything else that happens in his career.)

I think it was just an awkward hit. Cooke has turned his game around from being the complete hack he was to one of the better grinders/ checking line forwards in the league.
I guess thats good to know, hes always had good skill for a 3rd/4th liner he was just a headcase. I haven't watched him in a couple years
I would like to contribute to this discussion, but after reading the description of the incident I've decided to wait to watch it until I can drink heavily first.

Did Matt Cooke have a late night talk w Carl Spackler?
Senators defenseman out 3-4 months after Penguins forward Matt Cooke appeared to unintentionally slice the back of his left leg with his skate.
