Don't forget that their fight song is ripped off too.
You forgot the next line in the article, which I think is even more important:
"They were entertaining to watch, but they did not change the game of basketball."
If someone made Fraud Five t-shirts I would buy one.
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
They are literally the NCAA's version of the Chicago Black Sox.
Since they are known mostly for changing the shorts and socks of the basketball world and for helping gamblers launder money, the Fad 5 should be known as the Michigan Black Sox.

If you can do a half-assed job of anything, you're a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind.

And the 1817 date on their seal is a complete farce as well.

The Fab Five represents the University of Michigan accurately. Arroghant assholes, who have an inflated view of their very few accomplishments. Putting these cheaters front and center is just a reminder to sports fans everwhere why Michigan athletics and their fans are the most detested and least respected in all of sports.
But.... Did he hit it first!

McCabe is a HUGE Notre Dame guy... But from my chats with him, prefers MSU over UM so I guess he's ok

Here's a gem from the comments:
"You're wrong. We want these guys back. Even Chris. It may have been awkward, but who cares? This takes nothing away from the current guys. We want to keep them, too. It's a Michigan thing. That's just how it is. They're all part of the community. I'm sure they know that."
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
They have a total sense of entitlement...it's always been this way with them. No bigtime university in this nation gets more out of their own brand name recognition...with the possible exception of Notre Dame...with as few nationally important accomplishments in the two biggest revenue sports...than UM. 1/2 a NC in football since 1948, and 1 NC in basketball in 1989 that...if not for the statute of limitations...might also have been vacated due to cheating, yet the way they laud their accomplishments and stature as the "Leaders and Best", you'd think that they win natty championships in both sports every 2-3 years. They act like they are the Harvard of the Midwest in academics, like Alabama in football, and now like Duke/UNC in basketball since they finally got back to a FF...without actually having to cheat to do it for the first time since Cazzie Russell was wearing the maize and blue on the court.
Not only are they NOT back in basketball...and certainly not anything close to resembling an elite program like Duke, UNC, Kentucky, and yes...even MICHIGAN STATE...and until they prove otherwise on the hardcourt beginning with next season, they are the equivalent of a Wichita State, a Davidson, or any other "one year wonder" basketball program that on the basis of a most favorable...and totally undeserved...draw in the NCAA tournament, and a major "escape" from what should have been a convincing beatdown in the S16 to a Kansas program that has a past history of being the biggest choking dog in the Big Dance. They act like they have now "arrived" because of the past 2 successful seasons, and will soon eclipse Tom Izzo and MSU and their accomplishments since 1998. They were the 5th best team in their own conference this past season who lost to the worst team in the conference but had a better post season almost solely because of a favorable tourney draw, and the play of the NPOTY, and a 21 year old freshman who went into beast mode when he no longer had to play against the teams in his own conference.
Not hard to figure out why the University of Michigan, and their Walverine fanbase, is the most detested and least respected in all of sports. It's the one thing that they have truly EARNED and EXCELLED at over the years.
Has anyone else ever associated with a known auto plant bookie and allowed him to give hundreds of thousands (known fact) or millions (more likely) to athletes to recruit them in. Most schools just use your average alum booster. These clowns pioneered by using the underworld to fund their hoops program. NOW THAT IS ORIGINAL!!!! Give them their props dammit. LOL

It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Spartan!!!!
"Leaders and Best" criminals?
Yes, that is true.

At least they invented night footba...oh wait.
"If they want to mock us, I'm telling them it's not over. It will never be over here. It's just starting." - Mark Dantonio, 2007
Please. "[A]ccepted more than $200,000 . . ."! McCabe need not down play the fraud of the Fraud Five. This, from the New York Times, 7/15/2003, link below:
"Martin testified before his death that he had given $616,000 to Webber and three other Michigan players while they were in high school and at the university; the other players are Robert Traylor, now of the New Orleans Hornets; Maurice Taylor of the Houston Rockets; and Louis Bullock, who has played in European leagues.
"Martin made the money through an illegal gambling ring he ran at local auto plants.
"Martin claimed he had given Webber $280,000, a number that Webber's lawyer, Steve Fishman, said today was wrong. He said Webber did not receive any more money than the $38,200 he admitted repaying.
"Webber's plea agreement comes less than a week after [Judge Nancy] Edmunds ruled that several pieces of key government evidence were inadmissible. She ruled that prosecutors could not use Martin's handwritten records of loans and gifts to players and could not tell the jury about Martin's claim that he lent $280,000 to Webber. It was also ruled that the government could not call Taylor, Traylor or Bullock to testify about money given to Webber by Martin."
So, Mick, make the next step as a journalist and accurately reflect the fraud.
Also, the planets have all aligned in some mysterious way because I want to add that I agree with all you guys who don't mollycoddle SCum in this thread. Believe me, Brandon, et al., are working feverishly for a way to paste this over and, as so accurately described, re-write this history. We'll see from time-to-time these scumbags floating out stories like, "why should the other four members of the [Fraud] Five suffer when it was just Chris Webber taking money"? and "It's all in the past, they've suffered enough." Just bullshit.
And, like you guys, I know a lot of SCum grads. A lot of those SCum grads played various sports at SCum. But I don't know any SCum grad who would not, in a New York minute, jump on board a revised history, a new play book of "talking points," to run a line of shit that "markets" the idea that this is now all in the past and they are welcoming Jimmy King and Jalen and Juwan and RayJack all back into the "Michigan Family." Believe me, the drum beat will never, ever end with these SCum-bags. And if you don't believe it, you just don't know these people.

Yep, those fuckers just won't learn.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
Hysterical. Thanks for the memories. And those are just the felons.
I just don't understand the attraction to them, and the need to continue to celebrate them? They did a lot of damage to their beloved Athletic Department.
Never really saw the attraction to them. But I didn't have any affiliation or connection to Michigan either.
Absolutely correct. I have always been saying the school and its minions will easily embrace these guys and that era as soon as they can. Heck most have never let it go and are not embarrassed at all but proud of the frauds. Look at their past AD Bill Martin- he said he would not have fired Fisher and also wanted to embrace the frauds. Only until he had to give that weak excuse of an apology to subdue NCAA penalties did he lie through his teeth and claim to be embarrassed.
scuM the university is NOT the victim. They were a willing accomplice and the frauds are not the only scammers this had been going on back to Johnny Orr. This school embraces cheating and made millions off of it. They suffered not at all for the cheating - only the poor hires afterwards.
You cannot erase from people's memory the hype and hoopla of the frauds. This school benefitted immensely and still receives benefit today. How many times did we hear on the broadcasts about the final four run in 1993? Look how many fans they got all over the country by embracing cheating.
Excellent article and cbs SHOULD be ashamed of how they handled it on tv the other night. This group won NOTHING-- that is NOTHING!! Nice job by Mick--- not sure how he handled it when it was happening but he got it right now. And....the idea that um basketball is back....watch how good they aren't next year!!
Michigan State football--- It is what it is!!! GoGreen!!!
Supposedly the all-time leader in football wins even cheated back in the early '20's or something like that. Cheating is not recent by any means to this university. They stonewalled the Fraud 5 cheating as long as they possibly could trying to sweep it under the rug administratively. Revisionist history is their specialty...nobody has put more lipstick on more pigs than these people have through the years. Canham/Schembechler virtually "owned" the Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit media and law enforcement agencies. MSU wrongdoings were always given front page headlines in the Freep and Snooze...UM's were buried in very small articles on the back pages...if they even made the newspapers or local sports broadcasts at all.
Those of us who have been of age since Bo came on the scene in 1969 know how this school...like it's "axis of evil" partner in crime in Columbus during the Woody Hayes years...both tried, and succeeded, in undermining and sabataging MSU football...and later under Orr/Frieder/Fisher, with "Uncle Ed" Martin providing the money, doing the very same thing to Jud Heathcote in basketball.
Assuming that this FF actually is legit...and down the line they won't have to pull down THIS banner too...I give MSC credit for at least trying to distance the university from the likes of Jailen and his ilk and their shameful self-promotion of an arrogant group of "me first" money grubbers who brought eternal shame to a school that loves to promotes itself as the "Leaders and Best."
people, the proper title is the FRAUD five. there was nothing fabulous at all about a bunch of arrogant, cheating players that never won a damn thing on the court. dont give them any more credit than they deserve. they were frauds. FRAUD FIVE.
